Another person murdered by ICE

I’m in tears and shock at the brutality happening in broad daylight in the US. I’m a US citizen, emigrated to the UK for family reasons 12 years ago (now dual citizen), and I am just in disbelief at what’s happening. I was sick when I learned of Trump’s first election and gravely disappointed by the second one. But the sheer brutality of what’s happening in MN right now has really thrown me. I have friends and family there, in Chicago (where ICE raids were occurring in the autumn), in NY, and in California. I’m hearing that even worse things are happening in the Deep South but fewer observers and press to report on it. Posting here because I feel so lost.

I can’t even fathom it. I don’t watch or hear the news and don’t have social media because I end up getting so distressed about all these horrors so I didnt know about this latest news until this post .
it’s so incomprehensible, I don’t understand how anyone can be doing this and endorsing it, I know I’m preaching to the converted but it’s so heinous and shocking I almost dont know how to process it,
I feel the same about all these horrors atrocities in our world but I think when it’s the US who traditionally we’ve always fallen in line with eventually it terrifies me to think that we could be turning that way ourselves next

But they are not going on the campuses shooting students going about their business are they, or are they.

Give them time and when they do I am sure you will be defending them

I'm sure if your friends and family don't wave a gun around and threaten to kill the ICE agents, they'll be fine.

The right to protest is enshrined within the US constitution whereas what ICE is doing might turn out to be illegal. Also, the man killed was not waving a gun around. Watch the video. Stop making stuff up.

I never, ever want to visit America.
I try to block out all news of the dangerous place.

CanIShareThis · 24/01/2026 22:18

What is frightening, apart from the murder of a citizen in the street. Is the amount of people who blindly support Trump and consider anyone who doesn’t a left wing liberal nut job. The sheer lack of critical thinking and independent thought from these people is terrifying.

SwedishEdith · 24/01/2026 22:21

This is a cold blooded execution. Can't avoid seeing the video from both angles on social media. No way is America fit to host the Olympics and the World Cup.

I've wanted to visit America for as long as I can remember, especially New York. Not so much now though since Trump's in charge.
I'll give it a miss whilst he's there, so many more amazing places/countries to visit.

Why do they tell blatant lies when they know that there are dozens of high definition cameras filming from different angles?

I don’t understand what the purpose of that is?

I’m guessing that it’s in some way connected to Goebbels Big Lie technique, but in the 1930s it came down to choosing between two versions without the means to verify.

I feel that I’m failing to grasp something obvious in the psychology of this.

I can see how words like “truth” and “fact” have been appropriated and are used to mean something quite different than the common understanding.

But still this blatant insistence on claiming one thing happened when the world can see with their own eyes it didn’t? It makes no sense.

Even if a small number of people are genuinely confused into believing what they’re told despite what they can see, how does it work for the majority?

Is it that it’s so blatant, it shifts our tolerance, or something?

The cult needs feeding. Not only will they buy it , but it perpetuates the myth that they are being persecuted and manipulated (oh the irony) and feeds their paranoia . They’re of course the special ones for”seeing” right through it.

Then you have the apathetic middle , that might or might not actually dig in (more often not) and just rely on the soundbites , headlines, carefully curated pictures and “facts”. Some articles will post the misinformation first, then a rebuttal from another source somewhere at the bottom as arse covering. Even if people get to the end, an idea has already been planted, and many don’t make it until the end.

Then you have the people that do see it. And they are outraged and horrified at the truth. They are angry and frustrated. They are fed up with being gaslit. Those feelings spill online quite emotionally or aggressively (understandably so) , which is then used to further the “persecution, manipulation, paranoia “ agenda. Look , look, they hate you! The cult gets fed.

Round and round it goes.

I do see your point, I really do.
I’m just so mad at the injustice of the people murdered in Iran, and no worldwide condemnation,
Its becoming clear it’s more about who is doing the killing and whether you like them or not.

I’m not sure what I can say or do about Iran that isn’t effectively just handwringing. Much like contemplating Sudan or Afghanistan. I can write to my MP, I suppose.

Whereas every day I open up threads like this one where posters blithely repeat lies and make no-nonsense comments about supporting ICE - and I can at least challenge their bollocks and hope just slightly that pointing out the flaws in logic and total lack of perspective might be read by someone willing to reconsider their views. There is a sense that the American people could still stop the slide into authoritarianism their country is experiencing if they united - something I sadly do not believe it is so easy for Iran - but that choice is being rejected.

Ok cache cleared along with cookies and now read the link you posted.
It states “ If you support terrorism including the slaughter of men women and children then your presence is contrary to our national and foreign policy interests and you are not welcome here.”
”At least 300 students who are destabilising have had their visa revoked”.
Seems pretty clear they weren’t so innocent after all although it doesn’t go into detail what they did.

Try the scroll button. The article goes through individual cases. The “supporting terrorism” turned out to be “attending non-violent protests on campus” (which would be a constitutionally protected activity for a US citizen), writing a college newspaper column critical of Israel, and most egregiously, in the case of the Indian professor, being married to a US citizen who worked for Al Jazeera and who had done pieces critical of Trump, who obviously couldn’t be got at herself as a citizen so they went after her spouse instead. Freedom of the press obviously not important.

As an American, I fully 100% support our ICE agents and Border Patrol, and all law enforcement. Imagine dying protecting to keep rapists and murderers in your country. Wild.

Liberalism is truly a mental disease.

Don’t be an illegal immigrant, don’t get involved in the deportation of illegal immigrants.

Dunno, seems pretty simple to me.

He wasn't an illegal immigrant and he was helping a woman who had been shoved over and had half a can of pepper spray deployed into her face.

Next excuse? Don't be a human? Don't exist? Hide in your property and don't go outside?

Could you point to me anywhere in US law, that it states being an illegal immigrant is a crime that carries the death penality?

Ditto - aiding/assisting an illegal immigrant carrying the death penalty?

Ditto - where you can be judge, jury and executioner to carry out that death penalty without due process?

I'll wait.

Kristi Noem due to hold a press conference later - no doubt she'll claim he marched towards the officers brandishing a gun even though the video shows him holding his phone.

Bet she is chosing her hat as we speak. She will be loving this. I once spent three months in the States, I have such happy memories of that time. I wouldn't set foot in the place now even if you paid me. So sad to see how far and how fast it has fallen.

I haven't heard about a second one but the first woman wasn't murdered.

She was murdered brutally by a psychopath.

Not far off right now

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 24/01/2026 22:38

i find it interesting (that may be too strong a word) that a lot of posters who agree with the actions of ICE are only posting the once

they seem completely unable to provide evidence or back up their first posts

BlackCrowKing · 24/01/2026 19:33

Maybe if the ICE agents were trained to deal with volatile situations and weren’t merely a bunch of Fascist boot boys, they’d be able to effectively de-escalate without shooting American civilians in the streets.

Edited

ICE agents have apparently been ordered to get rough. This was on "The Rest is Politics US", where one of the presenters said an ICE agent had informed him of that. The ICE agent was scared that he would lose his job if he didn't get rough with people. Trump wants to create civil unrest so he has a pretext to bring in the military.

He was brandishing a 9mm semiautomatic pistol as he approached them, and refused to put it down. That sounds pretty threatening to me.

Disgusting disgraceful murder. Horrible.

I don't want to write anything else but for all of the minimisers and cheerleaders for fascism dragging their disgusting selves onto these boards, my husband's company is US based. His bosses are decent family people who have voted Republican and now carry whistles around their neighbourhood in case they see ICE coming for a two year old.

This murder could be any of them. It could be any decent human being in the presence of evil. That's what you have done to your American friends and neighbours, and I hope you believe in hell so that you know where you're going for it.

Fascism “forcible suppression of opposition”.
Bit like you then on this thread, one might say wanting an echo chamber or being fascist.

I was appalled to read about the 5 year old boy removed from his pre-school class by ICE agents, taken to his home and then he and his father were removed to Mexico. A 5 year old child ffs! if you can countenance that then you have no soul.

Was that the Guardian article that talked about family facilities (sounds cosy) where the lights never go out and children are kept inside that you read? The one that talked about a two-year-old being detained? Families that followed the right processes only to find those processes change and they are targeted by ICE?

Well, worry not. A poster upthread has already responded to say the five-year-old was an illegal immigrant.

Fair game then.
