A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

I pulled off part of my thumbnail today because it was split in one corner.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/06/2026 20:12

Looks like a fantastic holiday @bizzey
I love the pics. 😍
How nice that your dh has now retired @MrsSPenguinz Will it be much of an adjustment?

I'm rather short-tempered today (yesterday, too, tbh) and can't even stand myself.

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc .

sproutsandparsnips · 15/06/2026 22:24

Air con is a game changer @MissConductUS. I think if we had air conditioning I wouldn’t dread the hot weather like I do.
what amazing photos @bizzey. Is the vineyard Llanerch? It’s a bit too far over the border I think though. Where are you staying? It looks a bit familiar but I can’t place it.
That is hot @Mumtobabyhavoc- it’s hard to get motivated when it’s so hot.
ouch! @TheIdlerReturns
@MrsSPenguinzwhat job might DH get?
Very busy day today - finished work 2 hours late, quite frustrating. Going to a conference/ study day tomorrow on my annual leave. Was hoping for a free lunch but had email today saying bring your own!

bizzey · 15/06/2026 22:44

@sproutsandparsnips ..
The vineyard was in Abergavaney.
Cathedral was Hereford.
Bridge and road was down the bottom of the town .

Ohh forgot I have photos of the black and white house !

I was staying in hereford town center.

sproutsandparsnips · 15/06/2026 22:53

Lovely @bizzey. Would you recommend Hereford for a couple of days?
I have been a couple of time to Abergavenny, the canal is worth a walk.

bizzey · 15/06/2026 23:31

@sproutsandparsnips .
My trip was a bit of a bitter sweet visit !

Some of you may remember that my DS 3 has had extra needs during his childhood and adolescent years.

I home educated him for 3 years.
He then started college 'late '.
He finally got his 2 gcses .
Meanwhile we had to still contend with lots of medical appointments and hospital visits.

Well things settled down, though I still have to over see and sort medical appointments and medication.

DS got accepted to Hereford University to do a Games Design Degree.

That is why I was so quiet last September.
My heart was breaking 😞😞💔💔❤️‍🩹.

It is not a place I would choose particularly.

N t if you are in the area it is worth a stop off.

I highly recommend the Cider museum.

Very pretty town.
My hotel had free parking if you are interested.

bizzey · 15/06/2026 23:33

My hotel was the nearest hotel to Hereford train station !😉😉

But ignore the reviews.

They changed hands 3 weeks ago ..so it was all a bit of an upheaval.

And no toiletries were provided like it said .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/06/2026 23:39

It's 28c apparently and cloudy. The humidex days 43%, but yesterday with full sun is said 59%. Everyone is talking about how muggy it is today. Yesterday just felt hot. Today it feels gross.

However, the worst humidity I've felt was in the Philippines with 90% humidity and 30c+ heat. It literally felt like walking into a wall of heat when you went out your door and you'd be dripping with sweat within minutes as if you'd just got out of the shower. 🥵

Had my 3 yearly mammogram today .
I was quite pleased with my self for my forward planning !😁.

I wore a body shaping vest thing (it is meant to make you slimmer , but I am not sure yet !😂😂)
Any how it supported me enough to walk up to the hospital with no bra and stop me from wobbling everywhere !! 😂😂..

Then all I had to do was take my blouse off and then pull down the straps when I was in front of the machine....

Instead of the embarrassing vulnerable walk from the corner of the room to the machine with your top half exposed ☹️.

And for some reason ....I could never do my bra up quickly when I know the lady is waiting for me to leave the room so she can crack on with the queue of ladies forming outside the room 😁😂😂.

Still , that's done for another 3 years 🤞.

And I am not complaining about having all this wonderful care .

We are very lucky to have all this pre screening.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/06/2026 07:44

It was a much more reasonable 23c or so here today. Full sun, but windy! Lots of time in the car driving across town to take my mum to a medical appt for an injection she couldn't get as it was a month too early. Unsure why GP office and pharmacy didn't catch that before saying prescription would be ready for pick-up today and why GP allowed booking. 🤦‍♀️. Anyway, kids enjoyed the playground nearby. Was exhausted once home, but took kids out to beach after dinner for the sunset then a drive downtown to check-out the FIFA decos.

@Mumtobabyhavoc and that sunset looks fabulous !

bizzey · 17/06/2026 17:00

Been in Buckingham Palace today to see the display of QE11 clothes .

Now in St Paul's Cathedral for evensong .
No photos allowed.

MrsSPenguinz · 17/06/2026 17:10

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc Beach looks so nice. DH is adjusting well to early retirement and I am loving having him around all the time. Today he is doing repair work on his classic car.

Hope conference was good @sproutsandparsnips I think DH may apply for 1 or 2 engineering jobs but is expecting to be retiring really.

Have decided on a shed / summerhouse with DH and have started doing the planning application we need as a listed house. Done it all apart from a couple of drawings so hopefully can get off this week.

DH is currently collecting a part which has been repaired for his classic car. Tomorrow we will be gardening and / or assembling and painting 2 mini beach hut tool stores. Friday we have a tour of a house in Norfolk with afternoon tea.

bizzey · 17/06/2026 23:07

bizzey · 17/06/2026 23:09

The Queen's wedding dress.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/06/2026 01:19

That looks like a heavy dress, Bizzey. Did it also look quite small?

Lovely photos, bizzey. I love exhibits of old costumes and other elements of everyday life. I also love cider :-)

We had heavy rain all day today, and it was definitely chilly.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/06/2026 07:31

Had a stellar day with the kids today. 🤩
I took them downtown to soak up the FIFA atmosphere (Canada V Qatar) and we walked all over, took pics, and watched a bit of the game on tv's in Fat Burger. The weather was warm, about 24c I think, but it was breezy, so quite nice. The kids loved the "party" on Granville Street, which is closed to traffic for FIFA, with the crowds, cheering, street performers, lots of picture stations and displays. Once the game ended it was super packed with everyone from the stadium. We also went into the library for a bit of a break just before the stadium emptied, which was a good call, so we avoided the initial flood of people.

If you look at the 🩷VAN pic you'll see a dog posed on top ... a lady had her little dog pose at all the displays for pics. It was cute and a little odd.

That is so cute! It looks like it was a lovely day.

Umanresources · 19/06/2026 17:11

That looks like a gorgeous day out. Lovely memories for the children to look back on @Mumtobabyhavoc . Canada did so well in their match. That’s the extent of my football knowledge, apart from the England match of course.

How lovely that you and DH enjoy each other’s company @MrsSPenguinz. It sounds as though you will both have a great retirement together. New hobbies and working towards a common goal sounds like fun.

My DD came back from Lisbon on Tuesday. Apparently, as my younger Grandson was leaving for school and instead of saying goodbye to her, just said, “To be continued..” He is so funny.

Very warm day here, but overcast and has been such a grey day. I’ve missed my nurses coming, but thankful I don’t have the bandages on in this hot weather. DD and I have been catching up on the recorded TV programmes. We’ve found the American Traitors, so that should be fun. I’ve been watching the Indian Traitors, and I have to watch it carefully, as half is In English and the rest is in Hindi, sometimes in the same sentence!

Fishcakes, peas and sweetcorn with Jersey Royals tonight, followed by salted caramel ice cream.

MissConductUS · 19/06/2026 19:56

Welcome to the retired couples club, @MrsSPenguinz. It sounds like you're off to a fine start. I can't believe it's been nine months already for us. What type of car is your DH restoring?

Havoc, that looks like a fabulous day out with the kids. I must admit I haven't been paying much attention to the World Cup. The focus here has been on the NY Knicks winning the NBA championship for the first time in 53 years. They had a parade for them in NYC yesterday.

Uman, when you mentioned American Traitors, my first thought was that it must be about the Tories during the American Revolutionary War. I've been watching a lot of military history documentaries on Netflix recently.

I saw this black ratsnake while out walking yesterday. It took me a few seconds to recognize what it was. And we went to our local county-owned farm today to get a few things at the farm store. They were out of strawberries, but we did get to see three of the cows. The sign gives you an idea of what they do there.

My cactus is blooming! A bit early this year, likely due to the hot days we've had. I love living out in the country. I recently heard about a British magazine called Country Life on an Economist podcast. It's not quite that posh here.

Which snake is that one Miss? Yikes! 😲

Not really following soccer here, but I want the kids to experience the atmosphere. I've got mixed feelings about hosting the event as well as the politics that seem to be a part of it. Enough said. 😬

It looks a bit hazy out. I have been trying to get the kids out for at least 90 mins.
I had to finally refuse Havoc coming, major meltdown, all is calm now, but I've got Havoc in the bedroom for "quiet time" and Baby beside me watching Alpha Blocks.
