A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Enjoy your break @bizzey

Hope you can get some rest @Mumtobabyhavoc

Sorry about the difficult May @DandyDandylion Hoping the rest of the year is better for you and the kids.

Well done on reaching the end of cardiac rehab @MissConductUS and glad you got a lovely meal out.

Congratulations on the Spanish residency @Mydogisagentleman

Welcome @YelramBob

I've heard from listed buildings about our shed plans and apparently any shed has to be harmonious, discrete and in keeping with a conservation area / listed building. Can speak to them on Friday.

We had 2 mini garden sheds for storing our tools and the silkies food etc which look like mini beach huts arrive today and will paint those.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/06/2026 01:47

Has anyone else seen these guys?

Sorry to hear your news,DandyDandylion. I really hope you'll gather strength as you move forward.

Umanresources · 10/06/2026 09:59

Good morning to you all. I’ve finally been discharged from the Nurses’ care. No more bandages and my legs are healed, although I won’t win any beauty contests with them. First shower today without the plastic covers. I’m waiting for painkillers to take effect yet though.
Welcome to the newbies on this lovely safe and comforting thread.
I’ll be back later.

sproutsandparsnips · 10/06/2026 21:40

So sorry about your difficult time @DandyDandylion. We had cavalo Nero for tea tonight! With duck in orange sauce, asparagus and Boulanger potatoes.
@Mumtobabyhavocwe were on the Rocky Mountaineer. Knew a bear was unlikely but DS was so hopeful!
DH has taken DS2 to get a prom suit today while I was in work. All exams finished now. His treat to himself was getting up at 0730 to go to the gym……
DS1 is going to Northern Europe on the train in 2 week so he went along to get some T-shirts for the trip.

Umanresources · 10/06/2026 22:15

@DandyDandylion you are certainly going through a rough time. I hope this month is the beginning of better things for you. I know what you mean about the weight being lifted off your shoulders. I hope you are getting support but I’m sure we are all here for you. I got a lovely portable rechargeable fan which is quiet and lasts for 13 hours so will be useful at night. We also have a fishing net that we use to catch bees and butterflies that come in through French doors and windows.

@MrsSPenguinz i love the singing silkies. I’m going to have to see if i can find some on YouTube. I think the sheds like beach huts sound lovely. My son calls me the shed lady. We do have 3 sheds and also 3 storage units, plus my OH has his office in the garden too. It’s not a very big garden at all, but I do like my sheds.

@MyrtleLion so sorry to hear to hear about the job. Hope the next one is successful. Your ankle problem sounds painful. Hope you get it sorted soon. I’ve not heard about my compression stockings, but I assume they are really hot in the warm weather.

@sueelleker i hope the cream works for your skin. I’d never heard of that cream before.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I’ve been keeping an eye on my sleeping patterns since I got my Apple Watch. I’ve been trying to sleep for longer than 3 hours at time, but I’m awake for a couple of hours and then have another couple of hours sleep. Last week it recorded me sleeping for almost an hour but I was actually supposed to be watching a TV programme.

I was watching an artist on. YouTube and I really liked one of the projects that she did, so I decided to have a go at it myself. I’m quite pleased with the result but it took me a lot longer than the artist.

That’s beautiful!

The last week has been interesting as I’ve been approached by three recruitment for different roles.

One is to be a retained expert consultant which I don’t think will come to anything, one is a part time advisory role which may happen, and one is to take a job just below my previous level at a bit less money, but might result in a quick promotion up to my previous job.

As beggars can’t be choosers I will apply, but it’s not exactly what I want. My job coach says having direct approaches shows I’m being noticed - all came from LinkedIn - so maybe things are improving.

Umanresources · 12/06/2026 11:52

@MyrtleLion thank you. I’ll keep my fingers crossed on the job front for you.

I’m hoping I’ll soon be measured for support stockings. yesterday my legs were so swollen, especially my ankles and the weather wasn’t particularly warm. I’m dreading the really hot weather.

MissConductUS · 12/06/2026 19:42

@UmanresourcesThat diorama is gorgeous. You must have great patience to make things like that.

@MyrtleLionThose job leads sound very promising. LinkedIn has become the primary job search platform here, too. I've been contacted twice since I retired. I should probably update my profile, but I might consider the right part time opportunity.

DS was supposed to go to Boston to visit friends from uni this weekend, but a rock cracked the windscreen on his car, and it won't be fixed until Monday, so he's with us for the weekend. 😀

It's been hot, 35 C yesterday and about the same today. The new air con system is keeping it a lovely 22 C inside.

The sports mania has gotten worse in New York. The Knicks are ahead three games to one in the finals, after coming back from a record breaking deficit in the last game to win by a single point. The next game is Saturday, and if they win that, they'll be the new champions. The last time they held the national title was in the 1970s, so everyone is properly gaga about it.

I saw this little turtle while out walking yesterday morning. I've been going out at 7:00 AM to avoid the heat. He's about six inches across.

DH and I went to a county owned farm where we are CSA members and got some lovely red lettuce at the farm stand,. along with some local strawberries.

That was indeed an amazing comeback by the Knicks, MissC. I've been so enthralled by the NBA finals that I forgot the world Cup is on.

We had two days and nights of storms here. Last night's spawned a few tornadoes (not nearby but in the region) and the previous storm resulted in the uprooting of a few trees and lots of branches strewn in the streets. It was incredibly hot and humid until today.

Fingers crossed I won't develop strep - someone I work with was swabbed and diagnosed on Tuesday.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/06/2026 07:42

Yikes all around Math. 😵‍💫 Stay safe and healthy. 🩷
(I'm fighting something atm. Would prefer have a lie-in tomorrow, but Havoc has an activity early) 😭

mathanxiety · 14/06/2026 22:12

Another banger of a storm last night, but the humidity has finally cleared.

I spent the day cleaning, as it's more pleasant when the windows are open and a light breeze is blowing through versus indoor temperatures in the low 30s.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/06/2026 04:05

Hot day here today, 30c. Took a while to get motivated to go out, but finally took kids to Playland. I did drive us over to the Italian Day festival after, but it was just too damn hot, so i ended up just taking us home.

View is the new amphitheatre hosting a FIFA watch party, tickets start at $55, I think.
Other pic is Grouse Mtn. They've put a giant flag up. Drives me crazy that it's sideways. When I first saw it I wanted to call and complain.

Hi all .
Had a lovely few days away , even though the weather was absolutely horrible!
Wet , cold , miserable and wet !!😂.
While in the Cathedral we had an absolute biblical down pour .
The noise was incredible.

Will post pictures, so there will be a pause before you see them .

The first lot will be the Cathedral.
We stayed for Evensong which is the photo with the choir in the Crypt.

I got told off for taking that photo 😲🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️(😂)...I suppose I could have been more discreet but out of all the empty seats available...2 people decided to plonk themselves down right in front of our view !
So I had to move to the middle of the nave and take them standing up !!
Which made me very obvious !! 😂😂.

DS was not impressed 😁!

Just realized..I said the weather was awful, but I have taken the photo with blue sky !

2 seconds later it had big black clouds above it .

bizzey · 15/06/2026 12:28

The next day we went to a little place just over the boarder into Wales and went to a vineyard.
We had wine tasting and a lovely Welsh brie, bacon, and cranberry sauce.

It was a nice day today but cold .

The following day we went to a cider museum.

It is the original factory of a famous cider .
Bulmers .

It was fascinating.
Down in the cellars .they use to turn the bottles of champagne cider (fizzy cider)
45 degrees every day. So they marked the bottles so they would know they had all been turned .

bizzey · 15/06/2026 12:43

Hopefully these load .
The cider museum.

Fire pit
Pub bar in the shape of the boat HMS Victory.

Clothes that the old cider makers would wear and mini set up for little ones to try on .
So cute.
They had lots of dressing up boxes around.

DS wouldn't oblige !! 😂😂.
Oh for got to say .
The bridge and road is medieval.

Ohh and all the sizes of Champagne.

Thinking back ...there were so many more photos I should have taken, but I was so absorbed in learning...I forgot !

MrsSPenguinz · 15/06/2026 17:33

Lovely to see your holiday pictures @Bizzey Glad you had a great time. I especially love the vineyard pictures.

Great you have been discharged @Umanresources

Great pictures @Mumtobabyhavoc

Glad you are making progress on job front @MyrtleLion

Glad exams are over @sproutsandparsnips

Love the turtle @MissConductUS

Hope you stay clear of strep and weather improves @mathanxiety

DH has now stopped working and started early retirement though he may apply for the odd job or two. We cleaned the house on Saturday then DH cleared some of the lane on Sunday whilst I researched sheds more and today DH and I have been gardening clearing leaves and DH is now off to piano.

I've had 3 days of antibiotics just finished for an infection but last night I came out down one leg with 26 one cm or so red blotchy patches which were very itchy but fade under pressure. No idea what that's from. Have had those antibiotics many times before with no issue, could be a very hungry insect or shingles is the other thing coming up. No blisters though. Anti histamines help takes itching away.

bizzey · 15/06/2026 19:30

Thank you @MrsSPenguinz .
