Got on hands and knees and scrubbed a section of the kitchen floor that never comes clean. It seems permanently dirty. It does look better, as it did the last time I cleaned it this way. Again, I used dishwashing soap and a microfibre cloth.
Also put a load of towels on to wash. I put it on long wash, so will be awake for a while.
Purged a few more of the dc's toys and also boxed some up and put away. There is just too many and it is chaos in here every day.
Just watching the Golden Globes; watching and listening to the pouring rain; and wondering where the day went.

Baital · 12/01/2026 05:06

Today I plan to sort out the fridge, throw out stuff that's too old, use up getting near use by date, and clean it

FurForksSake · 12/01/2026 07:16

I have to go to the music service today and swap a violin case. I must go! I’ve got hydrotherapy today and hoping I can get there on the way back.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 12/01/2026 07:21

I have to be really careful this week as it is shaping up to be a bigger one that I can usually cope with and DH isn't here to take the load.

But today I hope to do another 10 mins of getting the stuff to be tipped together. Our front yard looks awful. But it's temporary i hope.

I also need to severely reduce my food spend so need to give that some thought as well. I hit the 'fuckit' button yesterday and we had takeaway so have spent way too much of the weekly budget already!

Hope everyone has a great day.

WinterFrogs · 12/01/2026 07:29

Morning all and welcome to our little corner of MN @Baital Your delight at getting a thing done reminds me of myself!

On that note, I proudly present bed changes and a mop of the kitchen floor all before 7am! Washing machine on.

Sorry about the panic attack @Mumtobabyhavoc 💐

I find shredding quite cathartic too.

I had to bin stuff from the fridge too. I'm a bit disappointed with myself about that but I also need to have another word with DH for over buying vegetables.

Really need to put the car through a wash today. It's absolutely filthy, apart from gleaming number plates which I wiped over yesterday.

Must get going. Best wishes all round ❤️

Peridot1 · 12/01/2026 10:03

Morning all.

Dishwasher is emptied, reloaded and on again. We had a biggish roast yesterday and I couldn’t fit everything in it last night. Washing machine is also on. I have cleaned the hob. Need to wipe down kitchen counters and vacuum and wash kitchen floor.

Plan today is a freezer inventory. At least the inside one. Not sure I fancy doing the one in the garage. It’s too cold. And a meal plan based on what we have. And also based on being slightly healthier food wise than we have been.

Also need to open the gym bench DH got me for Christmas (requested!) so it can move from the study and get put in the gym. And the cardboard can be ready to go with the recycling this week.

Will also wipe down some kitchen cupboards. And put laundry away. All the usual exciting jobs.

Shitty/extra jobs done over weekend were cleaning the dishwasher, washing machine and extractor fan filter. Today’s will be the kitchen cupboards.

Have a good Monday all. Mine started off depressingly as I thought it was Saturday when I woke up first!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 12/01/2026 12:13

Happy Monday. Feeling v frazzled as we didn't get home til 9pm last night, late bedtime for D as a result. Also we'd spent most of the day sorting things at PILs' house, achieved quite a lot (a big rubbish bag filled) and came back with a car loaded to the brim. Now need to divide what we brought back between things staying at ours and things moving to the care home.

One load of laundry is in the dryer. Two working meetings have already happened. Need to chase the builder and check some PTA stuff. And figure out what's for dinner!

SydneyCarton · 12/01/2026 12:30

Have so far failed to order the school photos, but I did spent some time on Saturday going through DD1 and DD2's shared sock and knicker drawer. I binned a bunch of too small tights and white summer uniform socks, as DD1 is now at secondary school and wears navy ones all year round, and got rid of some shabby normal socks. I will see how we get on with what's left and restock if needed.

I haven't identified any shitty jobs as yet (not that there aren't any) but I suspect whatever I do decide to tackle will involve descaling, since our water is hard as nails. Sometimes I think my excellent teeth are due to layers of calcium built up since childhood Grin

petalpower · 12/01/2026 15:28

I find shredding slightly stressful @Mumtobabyhavoc - our shredder is quite old and a bit temperamental and jams up without warning so I’m always relieved to get the shredding done!
Today has been quite productive:

  • took car to the garage for a service (still waiting for them to call to say it’s ready) ✔️
  • talked to the garage about DD’s MOT ✔️
  • took two prints to the picture framers ✔️
  • cleaned out three food cupboards and threw away out of date food ✔️
  • basket of ironing ✔️
SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 12/01/2026 15:32

Today I have;

  • taken the DCs to school. With diversions and road closures the return journey took nearly 2 hours.
  • Tried to verify my identity to Companies House, but the website refused to work for me. So I took my docs to the post office (drive away). They said that they needed photocopies of the docs to send off so I drove to 2 libraries before finding one that was open. Then back to Companies house. That was a very big tick.
  • Now I am tired so doing my housework hack for when I am exhausted. Sitting in front of the tv and tidying up in the ads. Have managed to put a wash on, and to tidy two bedrooms so far.
FurForksSake · 12/01/2026 15:35

Well done on all the jobs! I’m impressed.

i went to hydro and that was good. He didn’t run after me with the card machine so assume it was my last from my class pack at that location.

I went to Aldi and bought lettuce and cucumbers to replace the ones that froze. Grr. Also picked up a pile of 58p pizzas that ds2 has in his lunch once a week. Paid cash so it was free.

I then went to swap out the violin case and turned up 30 minutes. Had to sit on the floor outside as I wasn’t leaving and I couldn’t hobble back into the car. But that’s a shitty job done.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 12/01/2026 21:34

I did many of the things!
PTA admin ✅
Harassed builder ✅
More laundry ✅
Enquired about PT at nearby gym ✅

H made a very nice leek and sausage meat risotto for dinner, got him to make extra so I would have some for lunch tomorrow 😁

Can go to bed satisfied (when I eventually get round to it)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/01/2026 22:03

Yikes Lobelia, what* *a horrendous commute. Was it any getter after school? 😵‍💫
Single, your dinner sounds very satisfying! 😋
Forks, didn't understand the violin waiting part making you sit on the floor or why your groceries were free. 🤔

Took dc out for over 2 hours in the rain this morning. We covered just over 4.5km walking. Not bad for a 4y and 2y!!! 👏 Got back to car, towelled them off and took off rain gear. Poor baby had about a 1/4 cup of water in each boot! I did say stay out of the deep puddles...
once home all gear and clothes went into the wash and is now hanging to dry, boots on boot dryer, baby had a bath and both have been fed.
Have had a call from appliance store. New fridge should be here in about an hour. It's a good thing, too, as I just wiped up more leaking water.
Nothing else to report, really. Haven't done the Costco shop as awaiting new fridge and no other chores today.
Temp is up to 9c and it's still raining. It has been quite torrential at times in the past 24 hours.

FurForksSake · 12/01/2026 22:25

@Mumtobabyhavoc I thought the violin place closed at 3 and rushed there for 2.30. They were closed. I wasn’t up to walking back to the car so just plonked myself on the floor and waited. Which was painful but manageable. The man gave me such a look!

groceries weren’t technically free; but I paid with a £10 note I found in my old coat pocket, so not from cash I was aware I had!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/01/2026 03:54

Lobelia, just re-reading my post to you.
No idea why the asterisks popped in. Looks like I was really emphasizing your horrendous drive with a choice word reference, no?. 😂😂😂

Dishwasher on.
Kids and I in pj's.
Dinner done.
(pesto salmon, prawns with penne in garlic cream, roasted potatoes; choc chip pecan oatmeal cookies)
Next energy burst teeth will get brushed and I'll get at least one kid into bed.

SpiritOfEdna · 13/01/2026 11:29

morning; back from a hectic work trip to London yesterday and managed to find myself in the same building as GB News!!! it was all very red white and blue 😄No sign of Nigel Farage though and it's a tiny tiny studio.
Today

  • online pilates class this morning - that woke me up!
  • I need to do a load of washing
  • weather is miserable but I am psyching myself up to get out to the shop -DONE
  • drive car slowly to get a new tire this afternoon
  • more interviews
  • find a tape measure - might have to brave outside and go in the shed😄-DONE
  • Damn it, I need to go back out and into the locked up shed for sanding paper
  • need to find my vit D tablets that I bought the other day and start taking them
  • At some point we need to go up into the loft as the loft hatch is being moved when the bathroom gets done and we think there is just junk up there - I am hoping not paperwork, it may just be planks of wood, randomly.
  • sometimes I think I just need to give into my need to cover my desk with clutter, but desk.
That's it for today, have a good one, SoE

@SpiritOfEdna Pilates sounds a great way to get ready for the day! I have quite a stiff back and keep saying I need to do Pilates but never get round to it😂

I’ve had the Woodland Trust round this morning as I’m planting some trees on my land. The ecologist came out to carry out a wading bird survey and apparently Natural England want to do a grass survey. An archeological survey also needs to be carried out as the initial LiDAR scans show evidence of a building and tracks. Who knew planting some trees was this complicated 😂.

I now have a couple of loads of washing to do before going out to choir this evening. No taxi runs today which is how I spent most of my day yesterday so all is well.

Peridot1 · 13/01/2026 13:08

Hello all.

Sounds like a nightmare commute @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia. It happens here too sometimes when lots of roadworks happen at the same time and every road in and out of town is blocked. No joined up thinking!

Weather is miserable and wet here too @Mumtobabyhavoc. Your dinner as always sounds yum.

DH has manflu. He took himself off to bed at 4.30 yesterday. Lots of deep sighing and looking sorry for himself. Is a bit better today apparently.

I’m not achieving much today as had someone around this morning to talk about new curtains and blinds - although I did do a tidy up before she arrived so the place is pretty tidy. And I’m out at the chiropractor this afternoon.

I did put some laundry on and I’ll hang that up in a bit.

SpiritOfEdna · 13/01/2026 13:16

@SunnyViper - I am 2 years in so I obviously love it! I do reformer Pilates, and do the odd group mat session on the beach in summer. It has made a huge difference to my posture, and I have a bladder of steel 😂 (tmi). I can stand up from a sitting on a floor without help, and put shoes and socks on like a flamingo 😂 My future 80 year old self will thank me.

Some serious project-ing in here this New Year, I need to catch up 😆

My decorations are staying up until February so I haven't had to deal with those yet but my list is loooooong. The one I wrote this morning (that my cat is currently sitting on) has 19 items. Other than work stuff I shall choose as priority:

  1. Yoga DONE
  2. Hair Dye IN PROGRESS (mainly on my hair but arms, hands and face have also taken a hit)
  3. Pick up bicycle from the workshop
  4. Pack bag for earlier start tomorrow
SingleThreadJoiner2 · 13/01/2026 14:53

@SunnyViper you live on very exciting land!

petalpower · 13/01/2026 14:56

The road through our village is shut for the next 10 days causing total chaos on the tiny one track lanes which don’t have passing places, just very soft and muddy grass verges in places. Taking my car to the garage this morning took 1.5 hours as a round trip (it’s having a dent and scuff repaired where someone reversed into me in a car park) rather than 50 minutes due to two road closures and a traffic jam. My car also seems to have developed a problem with the brakes after having it serviced yesterday so needs to go back to that garage after the bodywork is done at a different place. I thought taking it to a garage was supposed to make it better, not worse!
No daily projecteering done today and may not get round to more than the basics. My aqua fit class meant a repeat of the journey to the garage, this time without the traffic jam but with an added slow moving horse box that I couldn’t get past most of the way.

Peridot1 · 13/01/2026 16:01

I see your dents and brake issue @petalpower and raise you a mouse. Was standing outside the chiropractor and happened to be looking at the front of my car and a mouse popped its head up from where the windscreen wipers are. It disappeared into the grill somewhere. Was terrified driving home it had managed to get into the car. Might have to burn the car down tomorrow…

FurForksSake · 13/01/2026 16:10

Ooh mice are terrible for eating all your electrical wires, I think you’ll have to get rid of it. I think they like electric cards particularly. Shudder!!!

petalpower · 13/01/2026 16:11

I had a dead mouse and mouse nest removed yesterday from the engine bay of my car during the service @Peridot1 ! Apparently it’s very common. The garage said they can cause lots of damage to the wiring on a car. I’m hoping the little blighter hasn’t been anywhere near my brakes.
