Autumn, I make banana bread in a square cake tin, but cut it in about 1" slices the length of the cake rather than squares. I started baking it in a cake pan rather than a loaf pan because I often found it underbaked. Likely because I just loosely folliw a recipe in my head, sometimes it's bananas, sometines 3. 😂 Anyway, always turns out now! 😁
I went on a RC cruise of the Western Caribbean before kids and loved it.
I'll be excited for your review!

i'm scrolling when I should be asleep again....

WinterFrogs · 09/01/2026 07:15

Morning! Thank you for the sympathy. So easily done, isn't it, a back tweak? Luckily the first aid measures did the trick (bio freeze in particular is magical stuff!)
@JingsMahBucket I'm pleased my misfortune made you laugh you rotter 🤣 Guffaw now there is a word I haven't heard in a while. It's a good one!
Good luck with the party preps 😊

Wow a Caribbean cruise @autumnangel We will need lots of pictures 🙏

Sorry about the difficult night's sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc Yum to banana bread. You and your family do eat well!

Ohhh @Peridot1 you need a hug! All this talk of not much to dump from. I think you could be like me a just have your thoughts in a tangle. They are definitely there! I only know what I'm thinking if I write it down.

We've got your windy and wet here now @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia. I would love a duvet day today but it is not to be. I think we a probably quite fortunate here as we only have a yellow weather warning.

I have found two little Christmas figurines that escaped being put back in the box that went in the loft.

@SpiritOfEdna I enjoyed your 'going, going, gone' kn the last thread. Tjank you for starting this one!

I must properly sweep and mop the kitchen floor today. It's feeling a little bit sticky underfoot. But first, wordle and connection!

Hope nobody gets blown away or snowed in today ❤️

Peridot1 · 09/01/2026 08:39

Morning all.

or evening depending on where you are.

@WinterFrogs - all hugs gratefully received! Glad your back is better.

@autumnangel - a Caribbean cruise sounds just what you need. I have had issues with trying to set up on Vinted so never managed it. Must try again as have some things I could sell.

Yum to banana bread @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Today’s plan:

  • more holiday laundry
  • organise to have ironing picked up next week
  • all Christmas boxes to go upstairs
  • christmas tree to be dismantled and bagged and put in garage. Rain or no rain.
  • have a pile of cardboard that needs flattening and put in garage
  • Dentist appointment for a check up
  • hall to be completely tidy by end of the day

Hope storm has been ok for everyone.m we just got wind and rain. Really don’t want to go out today though.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 09/01/2026 09:24

Nice one about the cruise @autumnangel it's sure to be lovely!

Hello everyone. No snow here, plenty of rain and wind, and more crucially no school due to broken heating 😱 thankfully a couple of other parents have volunteered to take a few of the girls over the day including my D so the problem was sorted without me having to think about it very much. (gosh that makes me sound awful - it's just that they volunteered before I'd even got my thoughts straight in my head!)

H is going to the tip shortly with a mound of cardboard, two bags of coffee pods, and a few other bits and pieces. Very pleasing.

Laundry is on. Extra job for the day is sending back modem and box to BT following us changing Internet provider.

Stay dry and warm everyone!

Peridot1 · 09/01/2026 10:45

I ended up changing my dentist appointment to next week as have a bout of cystitis. Wasn’t too bad earlier but I’m drinking so much water to flush it out I’m running to the loo every five minutes.

Had a shower and decided to tackle a shitty job and cleaned out the shower plug. Mine is pretty easy as it lifts out. So scrubbed it clean and popped it back.

SpiritOfEdna · 09/01/2026 13:49

Morning. I should turn off work email notifications - I leapt out of bed at 6am this morning on fire from a work email and haven't stopped since; fueled by caffeine and all round annoyance 😄which now seems to be burning out. Am nostalgic for the days of contracting, but thanks to the government and their IR35 rules, here I am, logging 30 minutes here there and everywhere on a sodding timesheet 😄Thankfully it's Friday 😄

Today

  • desk and plants need sorting out
  • finished reading Hamnet - need to find something else to start, preferably something I already have. Maybe a re-read of Hamlet is in order (to avoid the desk & plants) 😄
  • Am in London Monday and am veering between what do I wear and hoping there are leaves on the line 😃
  • book a day of work on pay day, so I can go and have some fun 😄
  • the interview bandwagon roles on again, one this afternoon, I can't even bothered to go and smarten myself up - not in pyjamas but dragged a jumper on a freezing o'clock.
Hope everyone UK based is safe from storm - family in Cornwall are without power and cant get anywhere for fallen trees, we are due it tonight, but it's quite calm at the moment, SoE

mumofoneAloneandwell · 09/01/2026 14:04

Hi everyone

I’ve got to spend the weekend sorting out my flat. It’s the only job, other than keeping dd away from sugar.

have a lovely one, and do keep safe and well during the storm xx

RunningKatie · 09/01/2026 14:48

Cruise sounds great @autumnangel

We've got a snow day here, except there's barely a covering of snow so we have a slush and very disappointed dc2 day here. Joy.

Christmas decorations still not made it to the loft. I also must message ddog's holiday home and get him booked in for a few days so we can go on a London jaunt.

Other than that, I do need to leave the house to collect an M&S order. I might do that tomorrow, by the time I log off it'll be dark and slushy, not my favourite driving conditions.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 09/01/2026 14:50

Just logging in quickly to echo everyone about your proposed cruise, @autumnangel Smile

So pleased you have decided to do that. Thanks

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 15:02

Hello, can I join you? I’ve got a long list of jobs for the year and really should start actually doing them rather than making lists..

Today I have sold a pair of trousers on vinted and packaged them up, so that’s something!

Yestersay I put my washing away.

I had surgery in November and hopefully back to work mid February so I’ve got some time to get some bits done in little bits and pieces.

Peridot1 · 09/01/2026 16:42

Welcome @FurForksSake. Great name btw!

So our house is officially de-Christmased. Trees are in their storage bags and in the garage. Boxes are all upstairs in spare bedroom. I need to re-jig some things and get them ready to go into the loft but will do that in a day or so.

I also played about with the display/storage units in the dining area with the help of ChatGPT. Still some tweaking to be done but I do think they look better. Less cluttered.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/01/2026 17:43

SoE, have been seeing the commercials for the Hamnet movie; just skimmed a lengthy BBC article about the book/story/author interview; looks good.
Yikes, Peridot! Are you on antibiotics? I've had some awful uti/bladder infections. Take care. 💐

FoolShapeHeart · 10/01/2026 01:05

@WinterFrogs I foolishly posted that update on the wrong thread! I'm also trying to declutter 2026 things this year and that was its intended destination 🤦‍♀️ It was a godawful job tbh as I was doing it solo and my old mattress was really heavy. I used the thick plastic wrap that my new mattress was vacuum packed in, along with three other large pieces of thick plastic, and sellotaped then duct taped the joins, with a small amount of parcel tape to finish the job when the duct tape ran out. It was not particularly professional-looking, but went out in the snow before 6.30 as instructed and thankfully was collected mid-morning. Such a relief!

FoolShapeHeart · 10/01/2026 01:23

I had to rack my brain to think back - there's a reason I need to update daily!

7/1 mattress out for collection
8/1 finally ordered a belated birthday gift
9/1 rehung the hall curtain

Tomorrow is quite busy but I want to prioritise my daily job and decluttering. Eyes on the prize!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/01/2026 04:59

Spent the afternoon sledding at a local ski hlll. The kids have just crashed. 😇😇💁‍♀️
I put away the dc's clothes from yesterday's washing. Mine are still hung up.
I tied up the kitchen garbage and wiped the inside of the bin lid with vinegar to clean it. Bag to go out tomorrow.
I wiped the bathroom floor, just with a wet cloth, but it looks better. Bathroom to clean tomorrow.
Put dc's toys away.
My nose is stuffy after a couple days of sneezing and dripping. Eyes feel very tired. I think I'm coming down with a cold. 😡
Don't have time for that.

WideOpenBeaches · 10/01/2026 06:42

Spurred on by this thread I

  • paid my tax bill to HMRC ( due to various factors, it’s about 4x more than usual) 🤬🤬🤬
  • rang my travel insurance company and, by tweaking a few things, managed to save myself about £220.

Sadly the two don’t cancel each other out, but got to take the wins where you can.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 10/01/2026 06:42

Hi all.

Many great projects here! Hope you feel better soon @Peridot1 .

I had my dietician appointment this week. As @Peridot1 predicted some tweaks about foods that can be inflammatory for susceptible people. But she also looked at the myriad of blood tests I have had and among other things identified some vitamin deficiencies that had not been flagged before. Aorund Vitamin D and Magnesium mainly. So easy to deal with via supplements.

Welcome @FurForksSake !!

Today- well I feel I have started well because the kitchen is all shiny from last night. I have ALOT of clothes washing and ironing to do. And I need to make a list. Smile

have a great day everyone!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 10/01/2026 06:43

Oh cross post with @WideOpenBeaches ! Welcome!

Our tax bill came yesterday....... I have not yet opened it.....

Peridot1 · 10/01/2026 07:22

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I do have some antibiotics in the cupboard that I was given when I had a uti before but I managed to clear it without needing them. So they are there if I need. I took Hiprex yesterday which you can get OTC in Australia which works on the bacteria and it definitely helps. I think I got this one in time and definitely feel better.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - interesting about the vitamin deficiencies. There are a few FB groups about Vit D that I’m in. They can be very rigid about how and what to take and what to take with it. The quality of supplements varies a lot. Some are buffered with crap essentially. I read a book recommended in one group by Susan Rex Ryan which is quite interesting about Vitamin D. Must read it again. And start taking the supplements I bought!

@FoolShapeHeart - that sounded like a lot of work to wrap the mattress but at least it’s gone!

So I have been up a while. Woke in the night as often happens and as I was trying to get back to sleep I think I heard rustling in a messy corner of my bedroom. 😱. So I got up. I have a wooden box in that corner with stuff inside and on top. And we have just had mice in the garage……

If ever there was a hint that I need to tidy and deep clean my bedroom this is definitely it!

Will get DH to check it out when he is up. I’m not brave enough!

So today’s list is doing my bedroom!

WideOpenBeaches · 10/01/2026 07:31

I was going to tweak my travel insurance online (which reduced it a bit) but then wanted to change something else which I couldn’t… so I thought I’d call.

It was the best 10 minutes of being on hold I’ve done so far.
Sometimes it’s better to just speak to a PERSON 😁

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 10/01/2026 08:33

Welcome all new people! @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia good news about the potential changes?

@Peridot1 aaaaarrgh about the possible mice, I have a complete phobia of them, after a couple of unpleasant episodes.

I didn't send off the modem yesterday because I ended up wrestling with the printer instead. We're away for the weekend so no tasks happening here! Happy Saturday!

Peridot1 · 10/01/2026 09:15

@SingleThreadJoiner2 - DH got up and we moved everything and checked the box and there was nothing. The noise could well have come from outside. I sometimes hear birds in the gutters.

I am going to get DS and DH to help me move my bed later though and give it all a good clean.

Redecorating my room is on my list for this year too. I need better storage.

SunnyViper · 10/01/2026 12:08

Afternoon all. I’ve had a lazy morning so far but I’m about to put away the decorations that o took down earlier in the week as I can now make it to the garage😂.

it’s my godsons wedding this afternoon so that should be fun. The house is a bit of a tip but I’m going to task the kids with various jobs so we’ll see how that pans out 😂.

WinterFrogs · 10/01/2026 12:39

Hello! Lovely to 'see' everyone and catch up. Welcome @FurForksSake and @WideOpenBeaches

I am setting fair round these parts. @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia will know what I mean.

I've gone a bit feral and can't find anything. Have taken my novel reading to extremes and been a bit lazy round the house. Dh is not well so I've covered him with a blanket and stuck him in front of the telly with instructions not to move as he was supposed to be out today. If I'm going to get anything done I need for him not to be underfoot ( and i know he's 60 not 6!)

Peridot1 · 10/01/2026 16:04

I can’t imagine you as being feral @WinterFrogs! And it’s “that” time of year I think where anything goes!

I have achieved quite a bit today. Read a thread about cleaning the dishwasher including the filter so I did that. And the extractor fan filter. And tidied the utility room to make space for DH’s new herb growing thingie I got him for Christmas. Did some laundry. And made a good start on my bedroom. Even did a bit of an inventory and sort out of some of my skin care stash.

About ti make a cup of tea and read my book.
