@BerfyTigot sorry to hear about the fibro and RA. I’ve RA in my shoulders and have yearly hydrocortisone injections but I’m a little overdue and feeling it😂.

when I was in Tesco yesterday I noticed some fruit trees on offer at 2 for £12. I went back today and bought 8 so this afternoons task is to go and create a mini orchard. The planting will be easy enough but the hard part is deciding where to put them!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/01/2026 14:51

Been awake almost an hour since 6 when I don't need to wake up until almost 8. 😩

Peridot, you have my sympathy re mice. They are difficult to get rid of.

Viper, actual trees? Please elaborate! 🤔😁

Had a good hike with the dc yesterday. Was hoping for a good sleep, get them to school this morning then a doctor appt for me this afternoon.

WinterFrogs · 15/01/2026 15:03

I have a cat who is complaining about the weather as if it's my fault. I might send him across to @Peridot1 and make him catch mice. I'd be ok with potential mouse in car but I do get the horror, as I'd be the same if I knew there was a big black hairy spider on the march.

@SunnyViper if you have the same cold sideways rain that we do, you are one brave soul! Exciting to start an orchard though.

Poor you @Mumtobabyhavoc I hope you get a better sleep tonight 💐

I am Getting My Act Together ( says she, currently on MN!)

Clearing The Decks if you will. Making Space, which I'm hoping will address the chaos in my head. Everything's gone a bit...tits up...around the house and it's true about one's living space representing one's mental state. Have vowed to tackle it by addressing living space first. And then, a List!

Brb, best to all xx

FurForksSake · 15/01/2026 15:13

I have a cat, she only deigns to go in the garden from May to September. She will then sleep in a flowerbed like a hobo.

Our little girl cat is the same @FurForksSake. We call her our little sunflower when she curls up in the flowerbeds. Or sometimes a flowerpot 💕

Peridot1 · 15/01/2026 15:42

I would cope with a spider easier than a mouse @WinterFrogs!

I haven’t done all my jobs but concentrated on the living room. It’s looking much better and calmer already so I’m now sitting in it with a cuppa and am going to read my book for a bit.

@SunnyViper - interesting about the fruit trees. Might have to take a trip to Tesco.

petalpower · 15/01/2026 16:44

Spiders don’t bother me at all but mice are another matter. DD had mouse evidence inside her last car - we’re not sure how they got in but they ate the sponge she used to wipe the inside of the windscreen and made a real mess. No word from the garage yet about my car. When I phoned they were only just getting round to looking at it so there’s no way it’ll be back until tomorrow at the very earliest. I’m having to share DH’s car which I’m not that keen on as it’s much bigger than mine and it gets very misted up in cold and wet weather (like today). First world problems I know ….
Today’s achievements included working out how to get to a lightbulb in the light above the sink in the bathroom, buying a new one from our local hardware shop and fitting it. A job that’s needed doing since before Christmas. Also moved a small filing cabinet to get to the window behind a desk which has looked pretty grim for a while. Cleaned the window, refixed some curtain hooks that had come out and dealt with multiple spiders webs, dust and general grottiness.

I'm definitely a mouse girl rather than a spider. Although that said, we have a rather large spider who is behind our toilet cistern and who comes out at night who we have become quite fond of. He always pretends to Not Be Visible when we turn the light on to go to the loo, and then scurries to hide when we are - ahem- busy - and not facing him. He's been there more than a year now I think. He's about the size of a 50 pence piece which is quite large enough, thank you.

WinterFrogs · 15/01/2026 21:58

Yes tbf @petalpower even a large spider would not wreak the same kind of havoc as a mouse. So I do understand your dismay.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia I do wonder what spiders think about when they are just hanging about. A friend keeps pet spiders and they are almost affectionate. She has a little jumping spider with gorgeous eyes, who jumps into her hand. There are instagram pages with amazing pictures. So I'm less scared of spiders now but I do like to know where they are!

It's a good feeling to get those jobs done isn't it @petalpower ? I've taken some small but noticeable steps today by doing ten minutes at a time in each room so I don't get either bored or hyper-focused, and it's working. It's mainly been putting things away, getting rid of unnecessary papers and as usual, decluttering. Made it up to the loft too, with a storage box that I brought down for a particular purpose in September (leaving its original contents in bags up there) Box has sat in bedroom gathering clutter and clothing, and I finally worked out that the contents needed putting away and the box returned to the loft. Bedroom looks better already! So things are taking shape and my head is clearer. Bathroom and loo are pretty spotless though they never get bad as swish n swipe are flylady habits that stuck.

Feeling a bit more in control now!

SpiritOfEdna · 16/01/2026 09:44

@WinterFrogs I saw that and thought we need to revive the idea of replacing our stairs - at some point pre us there was a fire and a couple of treads have burn damage. (a previous thread had the whole saga of the joiner 'working' on them and abandoning us). I often am half asleep in the middle of the night letting the dog out and have had a couple of 'feet trapped in pajamas' moments. @SydneyCarton - it was a 'I fell down the stairs, I'm glad to be alive' scary thread
I have this post on the go for several days so,

  • pilates class(es) Wed/Thurs - DONE
  • attempt to clean some suede trainers. I've got the control shoe next to the cleaned one - not an iota of difference :-)
  • bank keep telling me I'm in my overdraft - I know! It's January, it's an official overdraft! But.... I do need to do my expenses today or tomorrow, but the form is not playing ball. Computer says no! Still not sorted
  • the GNiece wants to earn some cash doing 'jobs' so put a list together for her. We'll see, she wanted to do them before xmas but the lure of going to town with friends won out (I don't blame her!). There is a tinsel spider (frightening in the dark 😄) she can get rid of.
  • messaged yet another company who steam clean/sand blast exteriors and.... crickets.
I was prepping all week to do a big presentation yesterday; I think the invitee list was 70 plus but only 10 were on the call; but I've got that post presentation weird hangover feeling from having done it. I think SpiritDoggo is becoming scared of the dark (or is too spoilt) - last night she woke me - I thought to go out - only to want an escort into sibling's bedroom. She looked at me as if to say you can go now. Waves to everyone, have a good one, SoE

My day has mostly been errands so far. Slightly annoying as an HGV blocked the top of my road so I had to drive out of the bottom of the valley adding quite a bit of time. Luckily it was gone when I returned.

@SydneyCarton one of my visits was to the tip and I timed it well as I drove straight in but when I came out the queue was well up the road. I wish ours would do bookings as the tailback can be quite significant and it ends up blocking a roundabout and creates mayhem.

The booking system at our local tip (introduced during lockdown) has made a huge difference, no more tailbacks. Needless to say, there was a small but vocal group who opposed it continuing...

Today's task is to arrange an Amazon return, and make a start- however small, to my very own tip aka the front room

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 16/01/2026 11:36

Today's tasks are to do at least 4 loads of ironing. I got behind and DCs were complaining about underwear and the lack of them. There is not an actual lack of underwear, just preferred underwear was lacking. Sigh.

I managed to screw up a prescription request for essential DC medication also and have to redo that. I'm not sure how- I was tired, or not paying sufficient attention or something.

And DH is home for the weekend so we need to do things like finalise our tax return, pay the accountants and other bills before he goes away again on Monday for 12 days.

SunnyViper · 16/01/2026 11:39

I didn’t get round to planting the trees yesterday as the roots need soaking for 2 hours first. I’m doing that now and as they soak I’m sat in a swinging chair I put up when we first moved in. I could be doing so much more but I’m enjoying taking in the valley.

Baital · 16/01/2026 14:22

What a lovely view - far nicer to sit and enjoy it!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/01/2026 14:45

Had a great day out with dc yesterday at Science World then the playground. It was a gorgeous day. ☀️

Managed to finally clean the filters in both the vacuum and hand-held wand vacuum. The regular bacuum is foam, so hand washed in kitchen sink wirh dish sosp. Easy. The other pulled out and I just bang in against the inside of the harbage bin several times, use a fork to scrape any stuck bits out then wipe with osper towel and pop back in. I have sourced replacements on Amazon which I really should buy before it's too late.
Oh, also got a load of laundry washed and hung up before bed and dealt with an admin task for my mum yesterday and a task for my mum re medical equipment the day before yesterday ... 😵‍💫

Have had an ok skeep. Slept about 6 hours straight until baby woke me up at 6am. Before that was up for a bit with Havoc at midnight after being asleep about 90 mins.

Baital · 16/01/2026 18:36

I started, and finished! Sorting out the front room, apart from the Small Pile of Random Things that every house has 😂

And vacuumed it.

And made a phone call that I kept putting off...

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 17/01/2026 07:19

Today i am going to go through our 'medicine cabinet' which is a stealth medicine cabinet masquerading as a 'bread bin' sitting in our kitchen. I went through it quickly earlier looking for anti histamines and discovered it has broken key rings ; old prescription requests' my deceased FIL's wallet and house keys; random old christmas cards and broken biros in it.

😂 I used to use the bread bin! Now it's the fruit bowl...

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 17/01/2026 09:11

Wow, how big is this bread bin @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ?@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ? Sounds like a tardis! 😄

Not much happening here. Too caught up with work. Just basic maintenance / laundry.

Peridot1 · 17/01/2026 10:09

Morning all!

That’s a gorgeous view @SunnyViper. Did you plant the fruit trees?

Good ‘shitty job’ doing the vacuum filters @Mumtobabyhavoc. Six hours sleep with two little ones sounds good too!

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - our medicine cabinet is an actual cupboard in the utility room and usually pretty organised as I went through a stage of following an organiser on FB and I have clear boxes which are all labelled etc. It is way overdue a good clear out though and is one of the jobs to go on my big list.

We do have a kitchen drawer that sounds like your bread bin though…..

I had to drive yesterday. No evidence of mouse thankfully.

I had a PT session late morning and dentist check up in the afternoon. Had a bit of a mooch in some charity shops after the dentist. Then went to Waitrose to pick up a parcel from John Lewis. Did some shopping in Waitrose for dinner. Came home and realised I had forgotten to get the parcel! So need to do that today. Annoying as it’s a 20 minute drive away,

Today:

  • usual dishwasher and kitchen this morning
  • change a bed and wash bedding
  • put laundry away
  • tidy the corner in my bedroom I was supposed to do earlier in the week
  • clean the plug hole I was supposed to do too
  • Organise one drawer in my bedroom

Have a great day all.

WinterFrogs · 17/01/2026 10:19

Honestly though where does that random stuff come from? We all have it don't we, whether it's a little pile left over after a tidy up like @Baital or in a bread bin like @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia or @Peridot1's drawer or my fruit bowl...

It's always stuff we think we can't get rid of because Reasons, but is actually junk.

Madness!

WinterFrogs · 17/01/2026 10:20

Also good morning everyone 😊
