Hello!

Happy New Year, Happy New Thread

@WideOpenBeaches that class does sound like an excellent idea. Starting with coffee and biscuits sounds like an excellent lure!

@SingleThreadJoiner2 rotten luck with the migraine! You have so much on your plate it's not surprising. The body really does keep the score.

Honestly life is a lot isn't it, with family commitments and jobs and homes to run! Time for oneself can so easily take a back seat.

My best wishes to everyone on this thread 💕

WideOpenBeaches · 03/05/2026 08:01

Glad you’re Mums home @Mumtobabyhavoc. It must be a huge relief.

Despite doing strength training twice a week for over a year , I still can’t achieve a plank… let alone 3-5 breaths while I’m there 😆😆😆Upper body strength certainly needs more work. I should start building up to one. It’s not that hard.

Im quite a fan of doing squats during the odd ad break.

I was at the 60th of my oldest friend yesterday. We met on our first day of school… so that makes me old too…🤔

Hope you’re all having a great BH weekend.

petalpower · 03/05/2026 08:39

That’s good news that your mum is home @Mumtobabyhavoc . What a relief for you.
After a beautiful week of sunshine it’s now pouring with rain as we’re about to leave our holiday cottage. Not so good for travelling! We’re heading south 3 hours to stay with the oldies for a couple of days, then back home on Tuesday. I’ll be able to visit my dad at the care home each day which will be nice. Am hoping there is progress on his physio and OT following his hip fracture three weeks ago. At this rate it will be too late and not worth it! The dementia means he has no memory of the injury and claims to have no pain, although I think his pain perception has altered and his ability to express it too.
Have a lovely BH Sunday everyone!

FurForksSake · 03/05/2026 14:12

We went to the allotment and in three hours with two whinging kids we did it. Weeded and cleared and planted and hopefully we will pass inspection. We’ve got a pile of wood and plant bits that won’t compost to get rid of. But. We did it.

my beloved mil had been lovingly doing it for the last two years and I have to say it was pretty emotional being there and knowing she’ll never be there again.

WinterFrogs · 03/05/2026 14:55

I hope you had fun at the party @WideOpenBeaches! Were there any other people from that first day at school there? I still see my best friend from nursery from time to time. We drifted apart but it's always lovely to catch up when we bump into each other. We're a similar age to you.

Poor old Dad @petalpower 💐 I hope he isn't in pain. Have a good trip. My mum is looking quite robust when seated but I helped her to the loo earlier and that's when it's clear how frail she is. She still smiling but increasingly vague.

Hugs to you @FurForksSake. The allotment sounds bittersweet. We've been working hard on our garden lately as some of it has the look of an untended allotment. I am following some threads about dealing with it which have been very helpful. Well done with what you've achieved!

WideOpenBeaches · 03/05/2026 15:27

@WinterFrogs - yes it was fun but the timing was a bit strange…
Started at 4, ate at 5.30 and finished by 8.00. I had assumed that I could turn up any time, but I arrived at 5.45 and everyone was seated and eating.
Bit embarrassing 😳… didn’t explain any of that in the invite!

It was organised by her 2 daughters and was originally a surprise party so I guess they invited all the people they knew and I was the only school friend. Having known the family for years, I caught up with the 2 sisters and the Mum and both daughters too.

My DCs are both abroad so I SO enjoy the company of young people in their 20s and their stories of their lives etc.

Great fun.

I hear you on the garden struggle! I used to have a huge huge garden pre divorce… so nice to have something I can now keep up with these days…

Aria999 · 03/05/2026 15:38

Hello @WinterFrogsand everyone! I have not been keeping up with the thread at all. Not me on the roomba though, not sure what it is? A dance?

Aria999 · 03/05/2026 15:40

Oh if it's a cleaning robot then yes that was me! Mine is called Roborock though.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 04/05/2026 07:21

Hi all- reading thread but not been on it.

Hugs to everyone who needs it with ailing parents and difficult times. Thanks

Okay here- GCSEs start Wednesday for us and I think it's fair to say we are in the middle of exam hell.

I am trying to just stay on top of house stuff right now.

Best to all.

How are you doing? 💐

WinterFrogs · 04/05/2026 17:29

Sending soothing vibes @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ✨️

Awkward @WideOpenBeaches but sounds very worth going 😊

Very boring bank hol monday here. Have done some gardening then tried to read my book and my eyes kept watering with the effort of keeping them open, so i put my earphones in, put a podcast on ( Louis Theroux talking to Michael Palin should anyone be interested) closed my eyes and napped my way through the podcast.

I've done some laundry ( bed sheets) and will re make the bed once the cat has woken up. Dinner is left overs. Early night tonight I think.

Hugs all round 🫂

Aria999 · 04/05/2026 17:38

Hi @WinterFrogs! I'm doing well thanks. Work was very full on for a time but seems to be calming down a bit now.

FurForksSake · 04/05/2026 18:03

Slug pellets have gone down at the allotment. New plants already a little nibbled.

we went to watch jousting, it was nice to get out and do something as a family.

WideOpenBeaches · 04/05/2026 18:03

I quite like a boring BH Monday @WinterFrogs

Ive pottered in the garden strimming, mowing and watering.

Far better than being stuck in a traffic jam!

Little blighters!
Was the jousting good? I like the jousting scenes in that Heath Ledger film...um....oh Knight's Tale

WinterFrogs · 04/05/2026 20:35

Yes me too @WideOpenBeaches! We've had a busy few weeks with various things going on so it was quite nice to be bored/sleepy. Guilt free too as the gardening was fairly energetic.

RunningKatie · 04/05/2026 20:51

Very lazy bank holiday here as number 1 child had taken us all out with their cold germs. Very glad not to be working today even if all plans were shelved for a day of reading and watching re-runs of Midsomer Murders. There are definitely worse ways to spend a bank holiday!

FurForksSake · 04/05/2026 21:13

@WinterFrogs the horses were beautiful and looked like they were enjoying it. They put on a good show. We ate some very good local sausages.

WinterFrogs · 05/05/2026 08:13

What could be better @FurForksSake ❤️
Hope you all feel better soon @RunningKatie. It's quite nice to just wallow for a day though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/05/2026 16:50

Sorry to hear the cold bug got your family Katie. I hear you. 💐

Forgive me for not commenting on some other posts. I'm pretty tired as was awake around 4am to help my mum clean up, bath, clean the bathroom, put laundry on iyswim as is suffering side effects of the antibiotics she is on. Four more days of this medication. Heading out soon to Costco to buy Depends or similar.

WinterFrogs · 05/05/2026 17:19

Oh goodness poor you and poor mum @Mumtobabyhavoc 💐

RunningKatie · 05/05/2026 19:33

Oh your poor mum @Mumtobabyhavoc - what an angel you are to do all that at 4am as well.
Dh slept walked last night, seems I'm the only member of the family that doesn't. Less than ideal, wish we lived in a bungalow as he headed downstairs. Thankfully he made it safely down and then I retrieved him.
I've not achieved much today except working and I pulled some books off a bookcase with an idea of selling them and making space for more books. That's as far as the plan got for today.

petalpower · 05/05/2026 20:04

That sounds horrible for both you and your mum @Mumtobabyhavoc . Poor her having such awful side effects. You sound like an absolute superwoman!
We are now back home after our 10 days away. It’s lovely to be back. DD has done a great job of keeping the show on the road in our absence but there always seem to be things to do to get the house straight when you’ve been away. Everything in the greenhouse has gone mad! Tomorrow I have the house to myself as DD is at uni, DS is away for work and DH is at his volunteering. Everywhere needs a good clean and the fridge needs sorting out. I’ve made a list of jobs!

WinterFrogs · 06/05/2026 07:32

Hello! Lovely to 'see' you @petalpower 💖 I hope you enjoy your sort out today. I am doing much the same.

A family of sleepwalkers must feel like a handful @RunningKatie! I have books to get rid of too. Where do you sell yours? It's that or get another bookcase. Or just give them away like I usually do. Perhaps today's project is to investigate that. I also want to declutter our wardrobes. Specifically the floor which tends to get overlooked.

Hope you and mum are having a better night @Mumtobabyhavoc 🙏

Have a great day all.
