hello

  • the bathroom guy was making ominous noises about having to come back and look at the bathroom given the fixtures and fittings we have chosen. I can't face looking for others if they aren't suitable for the space. It's only taken us 5 months to find the current choices! Emailed a reminder to him
  • refund from pet insurance SpiritDoggo's treatment - with a £35 admin fee! Isn't that why we have insurance? 😄Not appreciated that there was a excess. SpiritDoggo's pocket money will be docked.
  • SpiritDoggo at vet's this morning for booster vaccinations. She is snoozing next to me and is moaning away a little. She did get a clean bill of health despite her recent shenanigans
  • need to ask neighbours if bikes can go back outside in shared space they are taking up a lot of room in the kitchen
  • hunt down missing socks and pair them up - the joys
  • desk is such a tip - I am hunched over a laptop with little space around me - so I need to tidy it (or just shove everything onto the floor 😄)
  • the floor-drobe is back with a vengeance; so will get that done today.
  • find a tape measure - and find my waist 😄
That meagre list is enough for the day, have a good one, SoE

Hello @SpiritOfEdna I do love your lists!
I've lost my waist too 😔 I need to go and work some of it off but first I am having a mug of green tea and a crunchie. Keeping it balanced 😂

Peridot1 · 06/05/2026 17:00

Hello all from sunny Dublin.

Won’t comment on all posts but just saying hi to everyone. Lovely to see you @Aria999. It’s been a while!

I had a nice bank holiday weekend with my youngest sister and her family. She has been doing lots of research on our family tree and the 1926 Irish census was released recently and she found out a lot and it turns out our mother’s side of the family was from very close to where sis is now. So we visited a castle where our great grandmother’s sister worked as a lady’s maid and other family members also worked. And are buried in the graveyard going back to 1746. Great grandmother worked in another castle close by. I can’t quite keep it all straight in my head yet but it was fascinating!

Now at a hotel in Dublin and it for dinner tonight with my other two sisters. Enjoying my mini break not thinking of jobs and chores!

SpiritOfEdna · 08/05/2026 12:03

Morning, thank god it's Friday even with a Bank Holiday this week it's been full on.
Today

  • final training session today as I am doing a triathlon on Sunday (a baby one) but I am getting nervous. The bike route is very straight forward, swim is in an outdoor pool and the run is laps of a run track so no getting lost in the woods or misinterpreting the direction of an arrow. I don't care if I am last in, so no need for nerves!
  • I've been tidying shoes up this morning - at least I have paired socks to go with them 😄
  • I've borrowed a ladder today to check a curtain rail is situated properly 😄High ceilings and even up our own ladder I have to do it by stretching and feel. I don't want to give the ladder back
  • Still can't find the elusive tape measure, and i need it for more things
  • some mandatory work training to do - 1 down 2 to go
  • I made more space on my desk by rolling the top back and pulling the desk out - genius; except I've filled the additional space I have. My one goal for the day has got to be to tidy it up! I might have a daily goal to have the desk closed every day when I have finished work. I've moved everything DIY/art related (onto the floor -desk😄) to give me a start but I WILL tidy them away. Clearing some of the desk has revealed some coffee stains.....
  • everywhere I look I see dust - so might get onto tomorrow - I'll waft a duster over the worst of it.
OK, another course calls, have a good one, SoE.

Have a good Tri @SpiritOfEdna! 🤗

Have help my mum with her exercises and bath and washed her bedding so far today. Now doing some school with the kids. We've watched NumberBlocks in French, KLT for weather, planets and volcanoes and we're now on AlphaBlocks. I'm pretty much done: brown fox, lazy dog, brown fox, lazy dog ...😵‍💫

About to make everyone lunch and then take kids out for a bit. It's grey, a bit windy and 15c here.

WinterFrogs · 09/05/2026 05:35

That sounds like a lovely and interesting trip @Peridot1 💕

Go you with the triathlon @SpiritOfEdna I hope you have a great time! Can I ask what stroke you plan to do for the swimming? I was talked out of it once for wanting to use breaststroke.

A decent ladder is a wonderful thing. I've spent too long trying to do things without the proper tools.

You have a lot on your plate at the moment Mumtobabyhavoc 💐

I have finally repotted the house plants!

Have a lovely day everyone 😊

Peridot1 · 09/05/2026 10:33

Good luck tomorrow @SpiritOfEdna!

@WinterFrogs - it was really interesting. I love history and am finding the family history fascinating.

Got back home yesterday. Having left my Kindle at the hotel….😢. Thankfully they found it and it’s being shipped on Monday.

I feel I have lots to do both in the house and the garden now that I’m back. Will concentrate on catching up on laundry today and then gardening stuff while the weather is nice.

WideOpenBeaches · 09/05/2026 17:08

Wow @SpiritOfEdna! You go girl 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

@Mumtobabyhavoc - you are indeed a lovely daughter and mum. How you manage to function Lord only knows. You have a lot on your plate.

Been away in Cornwall for a few days staying with a friend. Weather was ok and dry so did a bit of the SW Coastal Path and ate and drank too much. Nightmare journey back yesterday which ALMOST wiped out the absolutely delicious crab soup I had at a crab shack.
It’s one of those meals that stays in your memory for years. I’d be eating there every day for lunch if I lived nearby…

Off out soon to see the new Devil Wears Prada. I hear good things.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2026 20:35

I'd do front crawl for my swim. It's the most effective, isn't it? (However, I'm just arm-chairing here, soooo). 😂

Really loving the peek into everyone's lives. Trips to Ireland and Cornwall sound great! You all may be interested to know we have many street names that originate from your side of the pond.

Besides, Kilarney there's this

We have so many English names here as well, Cornwall is the street Kits Beach abuts, then there's English Bay (beach), and a whole series of streets in the Capital Hill area of Burnaby (and Burnaby). And Brentwood, Buckingham Heights, Prince of Wales Secondary School (Vancouver)...

Have got a large load of towels on to wash.
Had Havoc to activity early this morning, came home and got cleaned up and then we had Liege waffles and strawberries for brunch. I didn't get much sleep last night and am leaning towards a nap now.

I'm doing ok, but tired overall.
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
🩷

WinterFrogs · 11/05/2026 08:22

Welcome back @Peridot1! I'd be so lost without my kindle. I left mine somewhere recently and luckily got it back within 24 hours.

I have been dealing with three gardens lately! Literally maintenance, but I'm enjoying the keeping fit aspect. I've just started using the Merlin app which records birdsong and identifies the bird. I have a garden full of robins which I rarely see but they are there all right! And wood pigeons. It ignores the seagulls oddly.

How did it go @SpiritOfEdna ? I was thinking of you yesterday.

@Mumtobabyhavoc that link is very interesting! I too love the little insights that we all share.
The trouble for me with crawl is that I can't sustain it for long. I used to race, so would fly up and down for two lengths but never got the hang of the breathing. Breaststroke I can (could!) do endlessly.
I hope you got your nap! I had an accidental nap yesterday afternoon ( trying to read!) Woke up feeling very out of sorts and took a while to come to. Then tossed and turned at bedtime for an hour.

Your trip sounds lovely @WideOpenBeaches! I have just started reading Katherine May's book The Electricity Of Every Living Thing. Read Wintering recently too. She writes about walking the south west coastal path.
How was the film?

How are things in the gcse households @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ( and @RunningKatie?)

More garden for me today, plus errands for mum. I was up bright and early and got house routines done (good old flylady) Must order medication for the cat.

The wardrobe floor never did get sorted so I intend to find time for that as well. I'm expecting it to involve some decluttering as I don't even know what's there so clearly it is not necessary.

Must run! Have a great day all ☕️ 🍰

Peridot1 · 11/05/2026 10:39

Good morning all. Am so over the weather. It’s dull and grey here and cold. Was freezing yesterday. Couldn’t face doing anything outside. I need sunshine.

I did spend some time yesterday doing lists. A garden one for my jobs I need/want to get done. And a general one. The grey weather is really affecting my motivation however…….

I have laundry on and the dishwasher emptied and reloaded and on again.

I have so much to do but my motivation is sadly lacking…….

SpiritOfEdna · 11/05/2026 12:18

morning - thank you for all the well wishes! @WinterFrogs - I do breast stroke but a proper one (head under😄) I did see all kinds of strokes though - the swim was a bit hectic really. Some triathlons, particularly open water, have cut off times so breast stroke is really not feasible - London triathlon swim I think is a mile and you have to be out in 30 mins. I did good - better times on swim and bike than predicted ( the cycle though was reduced by 5 miles on the day due to an accident the day before from 13 -8 miles) and run was a fast walk (blisters I hate you!) I am however knackered today and yawning my head off with a busy work day; am wishing I had taken the day off 😄But very happy even though I came last in my age range; twas the 5k that did that
Today

  • already sorted out stuff from yesterday and shoved kit in the washing machine
  • need to shove bedding in as well today, SpiritDoggo has shed sand on bed from her weekend walk on the beach and it's all a bit gritty. Or maybe it was me 😄
  • Need to meal plan for this week now I've got a bit of time and a craving for protein
  • Find the sodding blister plasters and the tape measure (STILL)
Tiny list today, have a good one, SoE

Peridot1 · 11/05/2026 14:56

Well done for doing it @SpiritOfEdna. Sorry about the blisters though. Ugh.

Sun is now attempting to come out here after some rain. Not enough rain to do much good to the garden but just enough to annoy me! The weather is definitely affecting my mood.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/05/2026 15:39

Congrats on your Tri SoE!!!🤗 What an awesome accomplishment!

Our weather is up and down. It's cloudy then sunny. No rain, though and about 19c in the afternoon. It was an easy Mother's Day yesterday. 😅
Just having a coffee after a putter in the kitchen cleaning out the fridge and loading dishwasher. Everyone's breakfast is ready. I've got an iced latte and am waiting for my toast. I can hear the kids. My mum's is up and just did her exercises. Taking Baby to activity shortly.

WinterFrogs · 12/05/2026 08:45

Well done @SpiritOfEdna I am very impressed!

Happy belated Mother's Day @Mumtobabyhavoc 💓

It's cold here too @Peridot1 but I prefer it to be a bit too cool to a bit too hot when I'm working in the garden. It's definitely not sitting in the garden weather though!

I must clean out my car today.

Have a good day everyone!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 12/05/2026 10:07

Hi all- sorry for silence- GCSEs are in full swing!

Happy Mothers day @Mumtobabyhavoc ! Glad your mum is up and about also.

Great effort @SpiritOfEdna
I'm cleaning my car out too today @WinterFrogs .... i will drop DS off fpr hsi afternoon exam then go to the car .... wash. (My brain is fried- i couldn't think of 'car wash'. i was going to say 'car laundrette'.

Hugs to all. Thanks

SpiritOfEdna · 12/05/2026 15:58

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - I would love a car launderette - chuck my car in a machine have have it done inside and out in an hour and hang it out to dry 😃happy mothers day to @Mumtobabyhavoc
Today

  • given in and ordered a new tape measure
  • bathroom fixtures and fittings ordering day - so watching money drain out of the bank account 😄Builder came round - the only thing we need to change is the toilet.
  • find the mechanic recommended by tire guy to see if my headlights can be fixed - looks like electrics rather than bulbs. I was a bit distracted when having the conversation but I know the road the mechanic shop is on 😄Some google sleuthing needed.
  • my desk has been tidy for 3 days !
  • some filing to be done and an appointment to be made for a pension review.
  • washing done, now drying I've missed the opportunity to get it outside
  • SpiritDoggo is at my feet, she knows I need to finish work before her evening walk.
  • need to water plants
That's all for today as I've been writing this since this morning 😄, SoE

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/05/2026 16:02

I like it a bit on the cooler side, too Winter. 😎
It sounds like there is a lot of exam pressure there Lobelia. 😵‍💫 Our system has changed quite a bit, bit I'm not sure we've made it better. 🤔

It's mostly sunny here with a bit of very high streaky clouds. The air feels cool. Temp is 14c. Woke up around 6:30am. Put a large load of towels on to wash and unloaded the dishwasher. Just finishing breakfast, a hot latte (I know!) and a bagel with pb&j. Have got a pvr'd morning chat show on. I'm planning on taking the kids to "school" even though I've decided I kind of hate going mostly because it's a cesspool of sickness bugs. We haven't been since well before Easter.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/05/2026 16:15

And not sure if anyone noticed our thread almost full, so I started Round 10

www.mumsnet.com/talk/_chat/5528915-daily-project-round-10

WinterFrogs · 12/05/2026 16:24

I haven't made it to the car laundrette but I have emptied it out completely.

Knackered! Did an hour of jungle taming, cleared out not one but two junk drawers, two loads of washing. One dried on the line, other got tumbled. All away. Sorted and shredded or filed some papers. Decluttered the wardrobe. Hoovered. Visited my mum. Dinner's in oven. Cheated with Dolmio. Cat meds ordered. Need to go to recycling/household waste centre and charity shop tomorrow. And then the car laundrette.

Not sure what possessed me to get so much done but it feels good. Have I ever mentioned that I am a ruthless declutterer? 🤣
I out-ruthed myself today!

I've got your tape measure @SpiritOfEdna I found 4

WinterFrogs · 12/05/2026 16:34

Sympathy about the school germs @Mumtobabyhavoc We had similar when littlest started nursery.

I am even more tired after reading your post @SpiritOfEdna!

Feet up time! Just put Home Fires on because my phone just told me that it's a bit like All Creatures Great And Small 🥱 😴

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/05/2026 19:41

Wow, very busy day for you Winter! 👏
Impressive list SoE. 👏
I've lost two tape measures. 🙄
Looks like car laundrette now has to be our thing here Lobelia. 🩷

I don't know how any household survives the kids getting sick all the time. I rarely got sick before kids. Now every time they get sick I do, too.

WinterFrogs · 13/05/2026 07:31

Car laundrette and smug soup!

Word is that you develop immunity eventually @Mumtobabyhavoc 💐

It's slowed down here now littlest is in proper school but the nursery years were dire.

BerfyTigot · 13/05/2026 10:12

Hello everyone, sorry I've not been on - had reaction to covid booster and felt dreadful for several days.

I'm joining the car cleaning crew today. I put a load of charity bags in there about a week ago and have been ignoring them ever since.

Then a tidy inside and a trip to the car wash.

Have a good day everyone
