I managed to go through you need a budget and check our spends, that was positive. Also watered and cared for all my house plants, that didn’t take nearly as long as thought.

petalpower · 10/01/2026 18:03

I cleaned the dishwasher filter the other day @Peridot1 . Also ran a cleaner through it. Need to descale the kettle next. Rock and roll here!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/01/2026 18:11

Good morning everyone. 😷🤧🫩
Was up around 8:30am; breakfast made (oatmeal with berries and banana for dc); stripped the bed and put into wash; dishwasher on. Have had an iced latte amd some banana bread. Put Netflix movie on for dc. It's grey and rainy here at 6c.

Read an "article" 🙄 yesterday about differences between Brits and Canadians that noted while both love to discuss/mention the weather, Brits do so more ironically while Canadians do so obsessively with more detail. 🤔

RunningKatie · 10/01/2026 19:11

Happy Saturday all! I cleaned the dishwasher and washing machine on new years eve. Such a good feeling.
Today we've rearranged the living room back to normal, and I've given it a good sweep, hoover and polish.
The cleaner comes this week but she's not one for lifting things, prefers to clean around them! I could do that but she does do the kitchens and bathrooms which does help.
Just been out for dinner which was nice, then ventured out in the frost with ddog who did not come out for dinner but got some chicken on our return! Possible snow tomorrow.
Hope that's enough weather talk @Mumtobabyhavoc

WinterFrogs · 10/01/2026 20:15

How many kitchens and bathrooms do you have @RunningKatie? I'm seeing you in quite a new light! Are you gentry? 😆 ❤️
@Peridot1 I've previously been described as ladylike with a hint of guttersnipe, so make of that what you will!

Well done on all the jobs. DH made it to his feet and folded laundry in the bedroom while I sat on the bed and accidentally started dealing with work messages on my phone. Then I had to take my turn at doing the horses so he ended up responsible for dinner as well 😍 I came home cold and covered in mud well after dark and he presented me with a plate of reheated leftovers. I do love that man 💕

@Mumtobabyhavoc I think we tend to be wryly amused by English weather because it can never make up it's mind!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/01/2026 20:28

KitchensKatie, hope the walk was good. I like a good walk in the cold. 😁
Winter, what a lovely thing for your dh to do.🥰

I've vacuumed, made the bed and made lunch since my last post.

Peridot1 · 10/01/2026 21:37

@petalpower - it’s definitely rock and roll! 🎸

@WinterFrogs - I would say I’m guttersnipe with a tiny touch of ladylike! 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/01/2026 21:48

Have now cleaned the fridge out and am quite annoyed at what I've had to throw away. What a waste. 😡
Mixed up a pizza dough.
Unloaded dishwasher.
Filled dish washing liquid bottle in kitchen from large Costco purchase bottle which is now empty. Added a bit of water and gave it a shake. Will use this residual soap for some cleaning job.
Gave dc a snack.

New fridge being delivered next week. Nothing fancy, just a new model. So, I don't want to do a big shop until after that.

SunnyViper · 10/01/2026 22:46

Just back from my godson’s wedding who is also my 2nd cousin so it was nice to catch up with family that I only ever seem to see at weddings and funerals.

As expected, most of the jobs allocated to the kids were not completed to satisfaction so the y will be redone tomorrow!

@RunningKatie you have reminded me to clean my dishwasher too. It’s just started leaving a gritty residue on the glassware. I’m sure this one needs cleaning far more often than my last one and it’s exactly the same model🤷‍♂️

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/01/2026 07:11

Hi all-

Some further washing today. Uniforms i think.

Perhaps a trip to the cinema. Marty Supreme most likely- we are fans of Timothee Chalamet. DH heads back to London this morning until Friday night for work. This means I have some time to implement Operation Waste Removal. I shall collect all the garden waste and pile it up ready for the waste team. My energy levels are dodgy at best so i am hoping to spend 15 minutes a day in fetching and moving.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Baital · 11/01/2026 07:23

Now this is a thread i need.

I am impressed by those who have returned their Xmas decorations to the loft - mine are there because I didn't actually get round to getting them down and putting them up 😮

On the other hand, yesterday I mopped the kitchen floor for the first time in forever (instead of just spot cleaning), and not only put on a load of laundry but also took it out and put it to dry.

And the day before rearranged the living room to a more convenient layout, during which I vacuumed under everything. Though the skirting boards and picture rail need cleaning...

It's never-ending.

Today, the skirting boards and picture rail. And another load of laundry. Maybe starting to tidy the dumping ground that is the front room...

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/01/2026 07:36

Welcome @Baital !

This is a lovely little supportive corner of MN. You are most welcome.

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 09:44

Morning! I need to choose a job from my list for today. I’ve got to do an admin job for my kids hobby and I’m putting it off. I should just bloody do it.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/01/2026 10:19

Can you do it front of netflix? That's how i can cope with boring admin jobs I hate. Talking of which..... I need to do some fiing. Grin

Peridot1 · 11/01/2026 10:56

Morning all. And evening to those in other time zones.

Welcome @Baital.

I went for a cold dog walk with my neighbour earlier. Then came back and put sausage rolls and some frozen pain au chocolates in the oven. Feel quite the domestic goddess even if it was just to use stuff up from the freezer!

Some washing is on and I have emptied the dishwasher.

Only other plan is to vacuum my bedroom I think. And get DS to spend 30 minutes sorting the mess in the bedroom….

Have a lovely Sunday all.

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 11:48

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia I’ve done it! It’s done! £500 of badges and woggles ordered.

Phew. I feel loads better having done them.

petalpower · 11/01/2026 17:11

I thought of you all today as I made smug soup with the leftover parsnips that didn’t get used at Christmas!
Did your DS do any sorting out in his bedroom @Peridot1 ? I convinced my son to have a bit of a sort out which was long overdue and not really in his comfort zone. Two pairs of trainers ready to go to textile recycling, a big pile of receipts shredded and some packaging recycled.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/01/2026 19:14

@FurForksSake please explain badges and woggles. I'm trying to wrap my head around a £500 pound spend. 😵‍💫
Peridot, Your kitchen must smell divine with pain au chocolate and sausage rolls in the oven. How comforting!!!! 🥰☕️🫖😋
Petal, SHREDDING!!!! 🤗🤗🤗

Had a slightly rough start to the morning with dc screaming and generally tantrumming. It started triggering my panic attacks, so I needed to quickly take meds which helped and all is now good. I took a whole tablet when I only ever take half, so I felt quite slow with heavy arms and legs, but all has balanced out now after eating and having coffee.
Made choc chip pancakes with sweetened vanilla whipped cream, strawberries, sliced banana and warm maple syrup. Had 2 iced cafe lattes.
The only thing I think I will do is put the dry clothes and rain gear away and one load of laundry. I think I need to be a bit gentle with myself today.

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 19:19

@Mumtobabyhavoc I am the badge secretary for a local scouts group. If your little darlings attend a scouts group they will complete badges and then earn a badge for their jumper.

I am in charge for ordering and coordinating the badges. I do four orders a year for a thriving group so they get through a lot.

Scouts are doing their mechanic badge for example, that’s a new one on me!

Beavers and Scouts needed woggles, they get a coloured on to go on their scarf in beavers to show which lodge (team) they are in. Scouts get a braided leather wiggle.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/01/2026 19:21

Forks, ahhh. I thought the order was just for your own dc. 😅

FurForksSake · 11/01/2026 19:22

They’d have been very busy and mine are lazy Herbert’s 🤣

Peridot1 · 11/01/2026 20:49

@petalpower - DS did a bit. He took an empty laundry basket up and filled it with rubbish. Including lots of receipts etc that had been piling up for expenses claims. No idea if he actually claimed them but not my problem!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - hope you are ok.

petalpower · 11/01/2026 22:39

Oh yes @Mumtobabyhavoc SHREDDING! It’s just non stop fun here.
What is it with receipts @Peridot1 ?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/01/2026 23:42

Petal, I find it super cathartic, strangely... 🤔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/01/2026 23:47

Managed the laundry and packed some clothes for charity from dc's drawers. Made a late lunch of poached eggs on challah with fruit for the dc and my mum; protein shake for me. Cleaned the bathroom and have put the dishwasher on. Kids are playing fairly quietly and I'm zipping through shows I pvr'd. It's still very grey and raining here at 7c.
Also did a face palm as I came across a new pair of Havoc's jeans never worn tjat no longer fit. Had put them in the back of the drawer for last September, I think.
