Morning all.

It has been really cold @RunningKatie. We have had sunshine but the wind is chilly.

Productive day yesterday. Did the lights over the island unit. Finally! Took me ten minutes. And our cleaner was in but she couldn’t do all she normally does so she helped me wash down the kitchen cupboards. Quicker with both of us and it’s definitely easier while chatting!

Hall, stairs and landing still being painted. We have a scaffolding platform in the hall currently. The upper parts of the walls are done. Painter is hoping to be finished by end of tomorrow. Light fitting was due to go up today as the platform is here but that’s now tomorrow.

I was supposed to go to the gym yesterday but I got trapped upstairs as the platform was at the bottom of the stairs and I hadn’t the heart to make the painter get down and move it as I could get past. So I dusted and did a bit of tidying in my bedroom.

I am also planting out the new plants in the gravel garden. Doing a section every day. Should finish today or tomorrow.

Have a good day all.

BerfyTigot · 23/04/2026 09:53

Have had a cold for a few days so not set myself a project- day to day living has been enough.

But I made it out to the garden centre yesterday and bought some pelagoniums for some pots. So I need to plant those today. I've also got a couple of loads of laundry to do and need to take the bags, which I felt too unwell to deal with earlier in the week, to charity.

Have a good day everyone 🌞

Peridot1 · 23/04/2026 11:37

@WideOpenBeaches - I try to avoid Amazon too but get sucked back in. It’s just so convenient. And I tried an actual shop and bought some anti moth stuff in Robert Dyas but they didn’t really do much.

And well done on your DA volunteer work. Hats off to you. There is such a need sadly.

Hope you feel better @BerfyTigot. I need a garden centre trip too. Trying to hold off until I’ve planted all the plants I have. Then I need some annuals to fill in gaps this year while things grow a bit. Going for simple and just going to buy lots of white cosmos.

Laundry duties here too. And need to change DS’s bed and clean his bathroom as he’s at work in London today so I can get into his room.

Today’s extra task is to finish the kitchen cupboards. Just one and a half to go.

WideOpenBeaches · 23/04/2026 18:22

Hope you’re on the mend soon @BerfyTigot I usually find myself turning a slight corner on day 3-4 with a cold. It also - to me - seems deeply unfair that as the sun comes out, a blinking cold arrives… 😡

I'm mid way through recipe sorting. Got distracted and went and bought 6 hostas that were on offer in local nursery (tip off by friend) and have planted them out under my Acer tree.

autumnangel · 24/04/2026 07:17

Hello everyone, hope you’re all good. I’m doing alright, I’m feeling a bit more positive about life at the moment. I am keeping busy and the better weather and longer days are helping a little too.

I constantly feel overwhelmed but I realise that I actually thrive on that feeling. I don’t beat myself up when things don’t get done so there’s no harm in it really. I just need to get better at prioritising things and not leaving everything to the last minute because that stresses me out.

Yesterday I had such a productive day - sorted home insurance, got my car MOTed, sprayed the weeds in the garden and wrote a list for the front garden of things I need to do. I made a doctor's appointment, got a keysafe fitted and messaged the family group chat with the code. I feel like I could take on the world now!

Day off work today so hoping to get lots done. Main jobs of the day are to tax my car and strip the bed. It’s a beautiful day so I’ll get it outside which makes me happier than it should. This afternoon I’m going out with my mum and dad. We have an appointment to pre arrange our funerals (we always have the best days out!!). Hopefully none of us will need to use them anytime soon but it’s going to happen one day and we would all rather sort it ourselves than leave it to each other. It’s been on my list for a while so I’ll be glad to get that ticked off.

Happy Friday everyone ❤

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/04/2026 07:20

Beaches, just about ready for sleep now, but be here in about 8 hours. Iced or hot?
😊

I absolutely adore hostas. But the slugs!!! I have never managed to keep them longer than 3 days and I have tried garlic spray etc. Just resulted in garlic snails hiccuping gently!

Hugs to you @autumnangel . Thanks

and to everyone. Smile

I am overwhelmed right now also, but plodding on. The DCs are having to take a different bus route home due to road closures and it's quite a nice walk so I have been trying to get stuff done until 4.30 then I pootle down the road and have a quiet glass of wine while I wait for them. That's actually been really lovely.

Today is a dedicated life admin day. But I also need to clear out the fish pond a but as the warmer weather has meant some algae growth.

Happy days everyone. ❤

WideOpenBeaches · 24/04/2026 10:38

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia These are in a galvanised big trough so I’m hoping that it impedes slug progress. Have bought some wool based ( yes, not a typo!) pellets to scatter around and I have trusty normal slug pellets if those don’t work.

We’ll have to see…!

BerfyTigot · 25/04/2026 09:53

@WideOpenBeaches sounds like me, i often get distracted and end up doing something else!

@autumnangel I love days like that!

Today I'm clearing our porch. It's got dead plants, rubbish and recycling on the way to the bin as well as shoes and coats. But first I'm sitting in the garden with a cup of tea 😃

RunningKatie · 25/04/2026 10:19

I'm inside with my morning coffee, it's a glorious day outside but we have robins nesting and they are easily spooked, so I'm giving them space.
Washing is out on the line, I've collected an online shopping order - skirt for the summer. It fits and is already hung up!
I'm going to book myself in with the GP next week, I spent a considerable portion of the night mentally berating myself for something insignificant that happened at work yesterday. I think it's time to talk about perimenopause.

WideOpenBeaches · 25/04/2026 13:05

According to Feng Shui principles @BerfyTigot , your entrance and hallway should be clear of any impediments so that all the good energy can flow into your home.

Hope you get it sorted!

WinterFrogs · 25/04/2026 15:49

Hello you lovely lot! What glorious people you are 💕 I love the reason that you had your coffee indoors @RunningKatie .
Recommend you tell GP you have hot flushes as that appears to be the clincher. Sorry about the night time invasive thoughts. Been there, done that, hrt helps!

@BerfyTigot I agree with @WideOpenBeaches about the feng shui. I don't go in for anything more complicated sounding than simplicity but a clear entrance is definitely a good thing to aspire to.

Hugs to all. Life is busy isn't it? I got rid of a lot of clutter but have unexpectedly been landed with more. Most of it's headed to the tip though. I've been here before - dealing with other people's unwanted clutter, then feeling bad for not getting rid of it in one of the more socially acceptable ways. Like, I' don't hoard...I am not the problem here so why am I* getting grief about not spending hours sorting the damn clutter.

And breathe....

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 25/04/2026 16:07

I SO hear you on other peoples clutter @WinterFrogs !

I found that after having DS1 everyone seemed absolutely thrilled to offload things that would have gone to the tip on the assumption that 'you can use it!'.

Among other things we were gifted with a broken moses basket; two massive cardboard boxes of VHS tapes of cartoons recorded from the television in the mid-1990s; three sets of grotty holey wellies for various age groups that DS could 'grow into' etc.

Sadly DH (of hoarder fame) just put them all in the loft. But I recall having a few hissy fits about 'they don't want to take this shit to the tip so they are making us do it'.

WinterFrogs · 25/04/2026 16:24

Thank you @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia you do clearly understand 💕

It's a lot, isn't it? My ex never said no to anything and as a result I have become extremely ruthless. And with your story and my own in mind, I don't give away old tat. Ultimately it all ends up in landfill anyway so I believe that the most environmentally sound way is to simply not buy much in the first place. I do wonder what good stuff is, kept in the loft. There's a lot of psychology around 'stuff' of course.

It's complicated!

FurForksSake · 25/04/2026 16:42

Today I’ve washed all the bedding, towels and laundry.

I also cleaned out the detergent tray, got dh to empty and wash out the cat try completely, wiped dirty marks off doors, pyrolised the oven and got dh to de-cob web our outdoor porch. And then we went for a three mile walk.

I’ll deserve my oven pizza for dinner!

BerfyTigot · 25/04/2026 16:54

So far I have done a couple of little jobs in the garden and walked the dog. Not made a start on the porch yet. It's ridiculous- it'll probably take 20 mins to sort but I'm procrastinating. I take you points about a clear entrance way. Heaven knows what the delivery drivers think 🤣

We also inherited a lot of stuff from elderly relatives and have slowly been getting rid of it. I think it's hard for people to get rid of their own and close relatives possessions.

BerfyTigot · 25/04/2026 17:00

@FurForksSake you're putting me to shame 😁

Peridot1 · 25/04/2026 18:07

Hello all. Gorgeous day here.

I haven’t thankfully been gifted anyone’s unwanted clutter. When we cleared my parents house it was pretty easy as I didn’t want to pay to ship anything over to UK. So I just took a couple of things. The breadboard, a mug my mum liked that I now have my one coffee a day in and the gravy boat from the crockery set I remember from being a child. And im very glad not to be involved in clearing MIL’s house!

I am currently enjoying a very quiet house as DH and DS have gone to Wembley for the football. Having a nice glass of rose in peace.

I finished planting my new gravel garden yesterday bar some new plants that need protecting from frost still. The painter finished. Sort of. He was in a mega rush so missed a panel. He’s coming back next month for a couple of other things so says he will finish it then. I might do it myself though.

Our new hall light went up. After five years of a bare light buib! I love it. It’s very dramatic. Have ordered a new rug for the floor and a new lamp for the sideboard/shoe cupboard.

Posted off a return. Need to remember not to order from this particular company as I had to pay delivery and for the return so it’s cost me almost £10 in total!

Spent some time weeding and tidying one of the raised beds on the patio. Removed a very leggy woody lavender as DH wasn’t here to object! A few more plants to come out tomorrow. Gave everything a good soak. It was so dry.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturdays all.

FurForksSake · 25/04/2026 18:38

@Peridot1 isn’t there a thing in distance selling regulations that means they can’t charge you postage on returns. Which did a thing about it?

I have a ruthless husband with clutter. Things just disappear and he gleefully just chucks stuff.

Peridot1 · 25/04/2026 18:54

I didn’t know that @FurForksSake. It’s a small company so I kind of get it. Just won’t order again.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/04/2026 23:37

Clutter. Yep. Add me to the list.🤦‍♀️🙈

Exhausted here. Took my mum to emerg yesterday afternoon. We stayed with her until close to 11pm. Had about 5 hours sleep and went back for doctor consult. Waited a few hours then had to leave as had dc with me and obv small hospital space was difficult and they're tired as well. We went to Costco, had lunch once home, gave dc a bath, have got laundry going and a movie on. Have spoken to doctor and confirmed a plan for my mum. Need us to get a good nap then pop back for a visit this evening. Need to vacuum and wash floors, but that will have to wait.

WinterFrogs · 26/04/2026 09:45

Morning all. Off out, just wanted to send best wishes to your mum @Mumtobabyhavoc 🙏

Peridot1 · 26/04/2026 11:30

Hope your mum is ok @Mumtobabyhavoc. Stressful having to juggle it all with two little ones.

RunningKatie · 26/04/2026 11:36

Best wishes to your mum @Mumtobabyhavoc - hope you all got some rest before going back again.
We've been on a dog walk with friends this morning, left the dc at home - such is the joy of teens who like sleeping! Been to a new cafe and had a lovely time.
I'm going to sort out a clothes drawer this afternoon, dh thinks our garden Robins are fledging.

autumnangel · 28/04/2026 09:49

Hello all, it's been a busy few days. I walked 23 miles on Sunday for a charity walk and so yesterday I was feeling it! Normal service will resume today. I have the day off work and I need to tackle some of the boring things on my list that I have been putting off for a while:

  • Write letter to bank to close accounts
  • Garden paint job
  • Have a look at the washing machine - it's not draining and I have no idea what to do but Chat GPT seems to have a few ideas
  • Appointment with lawyer - hopefully the last one. I should have DH's estate and my new will and power of attorney sorted today.

I have lots more jobs to do but I'll be pleased if I can get these ones done
