hello
@mumofoneAloneandwell see you causing havoc on the christmas board 🎄@Mumtobabyhavoc hope your mum is OK @autumnangel - feet up today!

I need those slug pellets, the Hostas has sprung back up in the last week and is already holier than a Swiss cheese!

  • Need to start buying all the fixtures and fittings mid May to fit in with return window if needed but we started with picking up a bathroom cabinet and a light fitting which needs to go back - it wont give us much light in the dead of the night and winter. Made the mistake of visiting yet another bath showroom and dithering now over something else 😄
  • some new gym kit (hurrah!)
  • paid a car parking fine (boo!)
  • had a mobile mechanic to look at brakes - all good & worth the money.
  • I have another brick training session today - so a run/bike. Sunday's brick session was really poor so was quite demotivated at the end. We go again!
  • put my bike into bike shop for a service, got patronised, realised why they don't have a 'push' bike workshop any more - they mainly sell electric bikes now. 5K for a bike!
  • my phone has gone awol somewhere - need to find it (although I am being quite productive without 😄) Although the mechanic recommended someone on FB to repair the dents in my car.... (and a valet!)
  • Check if the vet has received the request for SpiritDoggo's full medical history for Insurance.

Right, must go and find phone, I am about to put a load of washing on and I don't want to hear a clunking sound of my phone in the machine (been there, bought the t-shirt,), have a good one, SoE

Hi, everyone. Thanks for the kind wishes. 🩷
My mum is getting ercp/mrcp today if prep is good. Had a chat by phone with doctor this morning who called at a reasonable 8:45am, but I was still asleep with Baby. Havoc was playing quietly. I guess a bit tired here.

Fell asleep Sunday night with the kids before 7pm. Woke up at midnight and had a bath, washed and hung up laundry, cleaned the bathroom, mopped floors, ran the dishwasher and cleaned the window sills in 2 bedrooms and heater in one of them. Got back to sleep after two hours scrolling at 4:30am.

Had to miss Baby's activity yesterday as no child care, but Baby and I watched Havoc. (Baby's is parent participation) Nothing scheduled today and I've got a med appt tomorrow, but that's manageable as I can take dc with me.

After doctor's call I put a load of laundry on which is now hung up and I've just put the towels on to wash.

We've just had bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon and strawberries for breakfast. Kids also had banana and I had a latte - hot. Shocking, I know. 😊

Have got a pvr'd talk show on atm and have one more I'll watch while I have a 2nd latte then get the kids to do some French and math on YouTube. We did numbers, food and household items yesterday. I put a call in to Alliance Francais re their "mini programs" for 3-5 year olds, but the spring session has already started 2 weeks ago and they don't take late students. I gotta 🙄 because they say the child must not have any notion of reading or writing for the class, Havoc already is learning to read in English and Italian, and we've been doing French a few weeks now but they'd allow that apparently. Yet, Havoc has missed "too much" to join. Have they done two chapters from a uni text, fgs? 🤷‍♀️🙄🤣 But, I digress... That's their program after all.

Right. Time for that 2nd coffee. 🤣☕️

Hang in there @autumnangel 💐🩷
Long list as ever @SpiritOfEdna

RunningKatie · 28/04/2026 20:11

Evening all, the evening sun is peeking out and the dc are out. So I've made all the packed lunches and even ventured into their rooms to close curtains and retrieve uniform for washing.
Now I'm twiddling my thumbs in the silence till I have to pick them up. It's so strange!
Car is going to garage tomorrow so I've emtpied out some of the random stuff in it. A bathroom man may or may not be coming to do a site visit, having looked at his website I think he's out of our league.
Enjoy that second latte @Mumtobabyhavoc

WinterFrogs · 29/04/2026 07:40

Hello all! I can't keep up at the moment but love to everyone.

I thought I was ready to start a bit of painting around the house and then I looked at how much the garden has exploded with growth so I'm concentrating on that ( while trying not to put my back out!)
Back to decluttering conversation- have been looking forlornly at my mother's house which is full of ornaments and souvenirs that I'm going to have to deal with soon. The clutter ( not hers) that I acquired recently has gone to the recycling centre.

Can't believe we're nearly in May!

Peridot1 · 29/04/2026 08:25

Morning all.

I’m going between trying to continue house decoration stuff and garden stuff. Also without putting my back out @WinterFrogs - currently sitting with a heat pack at my lower pack.

Painter finished hall, stairs and landing. He had missed some as was rushing so much on Friday but he came back on Monday and finished. Still hasn’t put the blinds back up though. One window is really high so hard to get to. Should have been done while we had the scaffold platform but wasn’t. Annoying.

I had a new rug delivered yesterday but neither DH nor DS were fans so that’s going back and I’m on the hunt again.

Garden wise I’m replanting beds along the patio which involves moving plants and improving the soil before replanting some and putting in some new.

And I currently appear to be married to Victor Meldrew so that’s fun.

Off to Ireland for a week on Friday and I can’t wait.

Today:

  • usual dishwasher and kitchen
  • laundry
  • change a bed
  • garden - lift and pot plants
  • appointment with interior designer to finalise some things
  • take curtains in sitting area down and take to be cleaned
  • kitchen guy coming to talk about adding some plate racks to side of fridge cupboard

Have a great day all.

I am completely out of the loop with everyone - life has been full on. My dad has fell and fractured his hip (fortunately no surgery needed) so lots of stuff going on there. I don’t know where the time has gone. We are now on holiday for a week. Will try to be a bit less AWOL when we get home!

petalpower · 29/04/2026 21:25

Sorry, very poor English. My dad fell, not has fell - the former teacher in me can’t let this pass 😂

We can't have poor spag around here @petalpower!!

WinterFrogs · 30/04/2026 07:39

Seriously, sorry about your dad. It's never ending as people age isn't it? I hope you are enjoying hour holiday and getting some rest and relaxation 💕

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 30/04/2026 10:32

So sorry to @Mumtobabyhavoc and @petalpower with family stresses. Hugs to you all - it's so hard with frail parents. Thanks

Peridot1 · 30/04/2026 11:45

Sorry about your Dad @petalpower. Hope he is okay.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 30/04/2026 12:41

Hello friends

Sending hugs to those with frail parents - it really is so hard.

I disappeared for a while, was pushing myself too hard on too many fronts and ended up crashing out with a migraine (+ maybe virus?). The enforced 24h break though was probably just what I needed and I am now trying to be gentler with myself.

I've got laundry on, have arranged to donate two jigsaws on Olio, and am trying to do the "tidy or deal with five things every time you're in a room" approach to keep things manageable but progressing.

I do need to reply to a quote from the carpet fitters...

Also grateful for the sunshine!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/04/2026 16:40

The kids and I have come down with a cold, so stayed home and away from hospital yesterday. I'm feeling better today, I think yesterday and the previous night was the worst, so we'll likely mask-up to see my mum today. I think the source was the sick people in emerg last Friday, the family beside us had a coughing/sneezing child, so my mum was exposed, too, but we'll still take precautions once we go into the building etc.

Managed to get sheets washed and bed changed yesterday morning. Got some work to do for one of Havoc's activities which I manage. I think I'll make pancakes as we need a filling meal since we all ate lightly yesterday. And I need a coffee first. I've got a bit of a headache. Hospital just called and my mum is going for another test so we'll head over in the afternoon.

Sending support to everyone.

WideOpenBeaches · 01/05/2026 07:39

@petalpower - Hope your DF is ok.

Talking of falling… or ‘having a fall’, the PT who runs my strength training classes (she specialises in the 50+) is hosting a mornings training on “How To Get Up off The Floor” session.

She’s running it in conjunction with a local physio.

Obviously we will start with coffee and biscuits 😁

I’ve managed to persuade DM (85) to come and so we’re learning together. I think they’re also teaching us on how to get others off the floor too.

Should be fun and I’m hoping at nearly 60, I’ll be the youngest in the room 😁😁😁

Dont ask about any ongoing projects or jobs. I’m at an utter standstill. I think I promised you a list a week or two ago.

WideOpenBeaches · 01/05/2026 07:40

@Mumtobabyhavoc - those lurgys are relentless when the children are small. I remember it well.

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 01/05/2026 07:54

@WideOpenBeaches that's such a smart initiative! Great idea. I hope it is instructive!

Peridot1 · 01/05/2026 09:32

That’s a great class to do @WideOpenBeaches. I see a lot of posts/reels on social media from fitness people/physios giving hits and tips on exercises for aging. I.e working out or strength training not for a “bikini body” but to be able to get up off the floor alone etc. Doing things like a farmer’s carry to maintain upper body strength to assist with pushing up off the floor but also for things like carrying groceries etc. It’s all so important. Push ups, squats etc.

Hope your mum is ok @Mumtobabyhavoc.

i have a busy morning as I am flying to Ireland this afternoon. Still have to pack. Have laundry to do. Although last load of towels is on. Want to change my bed so I have a nice fresh bed to come back to. Need to do a quick tidy round. Need to clear out the fridge.

Have a great day all.

petalpower · 01/05/2026 09:35

That course sounds amazing. What a good idea! I always worry about having to get very frail and elderly FIL up off the floor as he often has falls. At least my dad is in a nursing home where there are staff to assist.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/05/2026 09:59

I forget who on this thread used to post about their Roomba brigade.🤔 ... but, there was a giant floor cleaner robot at the hospital tonight and my kids went insane over it. "Mummy, it's a robot! Grandma, it has a happy face!"
Then, screeching excitement running back and forth in the room to peek at it in the hall.

It's 1:59am. Wide awake. Now feeling hungry. 🤦‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/05/2026 16:51

Up. Ugh. Laundry on bleach wash. Kids have left over pancakes. I've got a latte and waiting for toast.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/05/2026 02:26

@petalpower I am lol right now at my last post and you posting your correction.

me: Kids have left over pancakes.
Have they walked out because I served them left-overs??? 🤔😱😝

I managed to vacuum this morning and have just washed dishes etc by hand as dishwasher is on. Took an old flat-screen tv to recycling and the kids and I played at the park for a good 90 mins or so. Took box of toddler clothes to a charity I like, but they were closed so will have to try week. Got a call from the doc at the hosp and my mum will be discharged tomorrow. She's been on iv antibiotics for a week and will need to take another course at home then return for another scan 3 weeks from now. She has abscesses on her liver with no obvious cause. An mri, ct and colonoscopy were done. Consults were with infectious disease specialist and gastroenterology and radiologist, of course. Her oncologist has been looped in. I think the bases have been covered. Hospital doc said they all think this is an anomaly of wayward bacteria from the GI tract. Glad she will be monitored.

If anyone is a doctor here, feel free to weigh in. 😊

RunningKatie · 02/05/2026 10:28

Gosh @Mumtobabyhavoc - hopefully your mum is home soon and on the right treatment for now.
I definitely need a course in getting up off the floor, I do fear I'm losing my core strength and that seems a key. I've got a hernia which noone seems keen to fix but equally I'm not allowed to lift heavy stuff or do high impact exercise.
Downstairs loo cleaned, ironing on the lovely new board completed, dc2 is still fast asleep. Lovely start to the long weekend.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 02/05/2026 18:48

I fell off the thread 🙈, but have been online much less, which i am pleased with

Sorry to read about ailing parents 😔 - i'm sure (well I'd hope) that theyre appreciative of how much you care for them. My best wishes to them for speedy recoveries.

My love to you all - my life is okay, I am 'homeschooling' dd until a special needs place becomes available. I use the term loosely as its mostly play and activities, but i'm treating it as a long summer ☀️

Daily projecteering isnt going well, just trying to keep my flat neat and tidy, and get us out in nature every day

❤️❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/05/2026 01:52

I brought my mum home from hospital today. 😊
It has been a busy day as Havoc had an activity this morning after which we went back home so I could give Havoc a bath, change Baby's clothes and make them both something to eat. I threw a load of laundry in before we headed out. Got my mum around one, home around two, helped her bath, made a late lunch: smug soup. 😁 I used chicken broth from my freezer, some over-ripe tomatoes, a couple of potatoes, a bunch of kale and chicken wontons. Made my mum an iced latte to go with. When I asked her if she'd like a coffee she was pretty keen having hardly eaten the past week (nothing until two days ago and just nibbled at that). I've got a load of towels and the tub mat on a long bleach wash and I'm lying down with the kids - forcing a nap even though it's now 5:30pm. Havoc had a very hard time listening today (iykyk) and Baby and I hardly slept last night. Baby woke up three times last night crying about knee pain and insisting on me applying a cold pack. No signs of injury. Totally fine running around this morning with other kids. No mention about it at all. I think it was like a night terror. 🤷‍♀️

The exercises I recommend are "walkouts" and "bum taps." I used both when I coached.
walkouts: stand tall and take a big stretch with arms overhead and then sink down to squat to floor; place hands on floor and walk out with your hands to plank; take 3-5 breaths. Reverse.
bum-taps are chair squats. Feet out a bit from chair so when you squat down just the back of your bum touches the chair; really push your bum back as you squat; hands straight out on front to help counter-balance; focus on keeping your whole foot on the floor; gently thrust hips forward and squeeze bum cheeks when you stand up.

if you do these and want the next level of them let me know.

It's gorgeous here and 20c. 😎

WinterFrogs · 03/05/2026 07:11

Morning all. Raining heavily here. Obviously- it's a bank holiday weekend! It's been gorgeous all week and the spring colours have been so vibrant.

Pleased to hear that your mum is home and emjoying her iced lattes @Mumtobabyhavoc 💐

Re listening ( or not) amen to that! Littlest has difficulty quite a lot.

Thank you for those exercises. I do something similar every morning. I'm going to incorporate the walkout. After working in the care industry ( that really feels like an oxymoron 😔) it feels very important. Mother can't weight bear for long but the care home have twice weekly seated exercise classes and I think they really help her. @RunningKatie is really hard to exercise with a hernia so I hope you get some help with it.

It's @Aria999 who has a roomba brigade I think. 👋 if you are reading this!

Lovely to see you again @mumofoneAloneandwell and hope you and dd are enjoying life. Your school commute sounded so stressful. Good luck with the school placement when the time comes 💐

Hope you are having a good time in Ireland @Peridot1 💕

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend! We have seen all the family which has been lovely as we are rarely all in one place at the same time.

Today's project is to repot a couple of house plants. And continue with my daily routines because things all turn to chaos the moment I let up on those!

Ed because I got my Petals and Peridots muddled up again⁸
