I actually stop reading some posts because I can't be arsed to try and work out what is being said. Why do people put DS instead of son? What is STBX?

OP posts:

Came to say this

Also there is an acronym list

What is ODFOD its not on the list?

pictoosh · 29/12/2025 10:34

Oh do fuck off, dear.

That one IS a mumsnet one. Lol.

WonderfulSmith · 29/12/2025 10:35

No, we quite like it as it is thanks.

I do get annoyed when people say DD3 and you don’t know if they mean the child is 3 years old or they are child number 3.

Excellent, I like it.. one I can use IRL 😎

ODFOD.

Like someone said on another thread the other day, this sounds like a Welsh place name! 😆

@2026newbie I don't mind it sometimes, but it can be annoying when it's overdone. DCat, DDog, DNephew, DNiece, DFish, DGuineaPig, DRabbit, DUncle, DAuntie, DCousin.... etc.

Just stop it! 😂 No need to put the D at all. Do you say 'dear' before your cat, dog, cousin, niece, uncle, nephew, auntie etc in real life? No, of course you don't!

As has been said though. these types of acronyms you speak about, have been around for about 30 years, and are not exclusive to Mumsnet. The 'D' before everything, including every pet, and every family member is fucking ridiculous though, and makes that poster look like they're taking the piss, and doing it to annoy people.

LTR is long term relationship, but the context of your post makes me think you might mean LTB, which is leave the bastard

Ah yes! Thanks a lot. Yes LTB indeed…. Im obviously too polite as it didnt cross my mind! 🤣🤣

bigboykitty · 29/12/2025 08:47

ODFOD.

What does this mean

cantbearsed247 · 29/12/2025 10:45

Anewuser · 29/12/2025 09:46

See I was going to say that. Only it took me a long time to realise it is Cheeky Fucker rather than Cunt Fuck - which I’d been saying in my head.

Pretty sure it's ClusterFuck. You can't be a complete cheeky fucker but you can be a complete clusterfuck.

People who don't understand Ddog baffle me and i don't even have a dog. It's obviously people wanting to convey their love for their dog ❤🐕.

No one is ever going to stop using DH or DS on here OP! You might as well ask people not to say 'get your ducks in a row' or 'he's had his head turned'.

cantbearsed247 · 29/12/2025 10:46

SnowFrogJelly · 29/12/2025 10:44

What does this mean

Oh do fuck off dear - bet you wish you'd never asked now!

Silvers11 · 29/12/2025 10:46

Frogbear · 29/12/2025 08:47

Now that is one that justifies the laughing emoji being brought back!

So what does ODFOD stand for. It's not on the list?

EDIT - Ok see what it means now!!

JFDIYOLO · 29/12/2025 10:53

Emergency:

I've just arrived in Paris and they are ALL SPEAKING FRENCH. How dare they?

I've just started to learn to cook and they keep saying things like blend and fold and sauté and knead. How dare they?

What on earth is unreasonable about me stepping through a new friend's door and criticising the curtains?

How dare a group that's evolved its own culture have its own shorthand!

Honestly.

I thought it was Shoot the Bastard ex husband 🤣

SilverPink · 29/12/2025 09:51

But is DS dear son or dear sister?
Is DF dear father or dear friend?

It can be confusing sometimes. I have to read a thread twice. 🤔

I read a DF thread, imagining it was dear father, but the context was confusing. Many posts later I worked out it was dear fiance. If these acronyms are supposed to be helpful shorthand then (if not standard DH) it makes sense to establish what they're shorthand for!

tostaky · 29/12/2025 11:05

@JFDIYOLO now im intrigued about the acronyms in your username! 🤣 i can only make out the last four letters!
(you dont have to disclose)

HelpMeGetThrough · 29/12/2025 11:10

I was reading a post the other day, that was liberally referencing “cunt”.

Is that an alternative to DH? 🤔

TSMDNCOP

I think someone had that as their username when I first joined.

I find it odd that people join an established community and then proceed to tell everyone in the community they should change what they're doing because they personally don't like it. Happens in all the online groups I'm in from time to time.
Although on MN I suspect sometimes it's an old member name changing and trying to wind things up.

I suppose it's a bit like the acquaintance I had whose rather opinionated wife joined the village committee and at her first meeting spent most of it telling the group why they were doing everything wrong.
By next meeting half had resigned.
By the third meeting all the others had resigned and the village events which had been going on for decades have not happened since.
Acquaintance said "well they should have been grateful that someone wanted to do it right".

This.
But either way is pathetic tbh.

Tallisker · 29/12/2025 10:24

Why is “abbreviation” such a long word?

Why isn’t phonetics spelled with an F?

Mumptynumpty · 29/12/2025 11:44

Ha I've always read STBXH as shit the bed exH.

Now I know it is exactly that 😉

Barbluddyhumbug · 29/12/2025 11:38

Why is dyslexia so hard to spell?

And why is there an ‘s’ in lisp?

Yes?

There's no need to be so rude to someone.
