I actually stop reading some posts because I can't be arsed to try and work out what is being said. Why do people put DS instead of son? What is STBX?

OP posts:
readingismycardio · 29/12/2025 08:46

Soon to be ex husband? I think 🤣

Frogbear · 29/12/2025 08:46

Are you new here?

Edit - ah I just spotted your username, you are new! You’ll get used to it and start doing it yourself!

bigboykitty · 29/12/2025 08:47

ODFOD.

Frogbear · 29/12/2025 08:47

bigboykitty · 29/12/2025 08:47

ODFOD.

Now that is one that justifies the laughing emoji being brought back!

HappyintheHills · 29/12/2025 08:47

bigboykitty · 29/12/2025 08:47

ODFOD.

Came to say this

Also there is an acronym list

SwanNecked · 29/12/2025 08:48

Seriously? Just look them up or try another forum. Otherwise it’s like showing up in Paris and complaining about not understanding French.

Thatonenight · 29/12/2025 08:48

The worse ones are ones that don’t even make the word shorter like Ddog

Quincette · 29/12/2025 08:49

All the D this and D that makes me DPuke.

KitsyWitsy · 29/12/2025 08:49

Sod off then.

It's just how it is here. If you don't like it, then find somewhere else to hang out.

ExquisiteDressing · 29/12/2025 08:49

DS for son doesn't save much typing but DD for daughter does. Also it would sound really clunky if you referred to them as my daughter all the way through the post, in real life you'd use their name so DD makes a good replacement. You soon get used to it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2025 08:50

Th extra d is darling if that helps 😂

bigboykitty · 29/12/2025 08:50

I draw the line at DLab. We neeeed the laughing emoji back for sure!

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/12/2025 08:51

Oh the lovely @PhantomOfAllKnowledge is still living up to their username 😂😂😂

Theboymolefoxandhorse · 29/12/2025 08:51

I had to google them when I was new - it’s hard to keep up at first but afterwards you just get it and feels like a convo with a secret club ifyswim 🤣

Coffeeishot · 29/12/2025 08:52

Are you new to the Internet? Not even mumsnet because these abbreviations have been around for as long as "chat forums and the old fashioned boards have been around. I get they can be annoying but surely you can work out meanings from the context of the post.

Jellybeansinyourhair · 29/12/2025 08:52

Surely you mean DAbbreviations.

FoxFeatures · 29/12/2025 08:53

I’ve been on this site for nearly 20 years. The abbreviations have been being used in all that time, so no OP they won’t stop being used.

Coffeeishot · 29/12/2025 08:53

You don't have to use them i intermix words and acronyms.

BarbaraKirksKaftan · 29/12/2025 08:55

The acronyms are not a Mumsnet thing, they originated on message boards in the 90’s.

Barbluddyhumbug · 29/12/2025 08:55

Haven’t RTFT BTW but IMHO LTB.

Skeletor1980 · 29/12/2025 08:56

Why? JBYSS!

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 29/12/2025 08:56

NO

(Not Obeying)

Aparecium · 29/12/2025 08:56

I like FOTTFSOFTFOSM. Not that I’m telling you to, you understand! I just like that I can, IYSWIM. So - no.
