I actually stop reading some posts because I can't be arsed to try and work out what is being said. Why do people put DS instead of son? What is STBX?

OP posts:
EleanorReally · 29/12/2025 09:29

oh dear op

Barbluddyhumbug · 29/12/2025 09:29

We never see DOP do we?

Anyway DOP you made a mistake in your OP as you wrote “can't be arsed” whereas any fule no it’s CBA.

you do need a GSOH

The worse ones are ones that don’t even make the word shorter like Ddog

Yes that one always makes me laugh!
I do think we would understand H for husband and S for son though - the 'D' annoys me as I always say 'dear husband' in my head and it's often not a dear husband at all!

Around here we say "Good DLord"

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 29/12/2025 09:36

CF is my favourite.

I thought I'd seen it all on here - eg DDog etc, but on a recent thread the OP wanted to find out who her partner had transferred money to in the middle of the night. A poster used the term Ddrugdealer when suggesting who it could have been!

😂I missed that one!

The Tattle MN threads make me laugh as they rip the piss out of the silly D stuff.

Personally, I hate it. It’s so cutesy and was originally taken from the style of American forums where ‘Dear’ might be a more used term. It has always grated with me on here and 2026 will mark my 20th year on MN.

NuffSaidSam · 29/12/2025 09:14

Yeah, it's super naff here.

I'd recommend leaving and never coming back. Don't waste your time here.

👏

LemonLeaves · 29/12/2025 09:46

I've always found the D a bit twee, but it's internet shorthand which pre-dates Mumsnet by a fair old whack. MN is not the only site using it either.

I do think Ddog and similar are bonkers - it's no shorter so why bother? However I save my real ire for the kisses on the end of messages. Just, no. 😂

CF is my favourite.

See I was going to say that. Only it took me a long time to realise it is Cheeky Fucker rather than Cunt Fuck - which I’d been saying in my head.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/12/2025 09:48

Oh yes, LOATHE the xx habit.

gamerchick · 29/12/2025 09:49

Yeah it's annoying at first but you'll get used to it OP.

BunchOfShapes · 29/12/2025 09:49

Are you new to the entire Internet?

Sorry, it is unstoppable OP!

Ladybugheart · 29/12/2025 09:50

Quincette · 29/12/2025 08:49

All the D this and D that makes me DPuke.

Same. It's ridiculous

SilverPink · 29/12/2025 09:51

But is DS dear son or dear sister?
Is DF dear father or dear friend?

It can be confusing sometimes. I have to read a thread twice. 🤔

Yep. I've also see "Dhamster".

BIWI · 29/12/2025 09:52

GP is the one that always makes me have to think. Are we talking small furries, elderly relatives or medics?!

@2026newbie it isn’t Mumsnet law that you have to use them. If you don’t like them, then don’t use them.

DILLIGAF?

Upthenorth · 29/12/2025 09:53

PhantomOfAllKnowledge · 29/12/2025 08:49

A lot of them missing!

CF is usually cheeky fucker in my experience … unless I have been really misreading threads. 😳

I don’t mind most of the acronyms - but this one really annoys me. It’s more letters to type.

I have neither a dog nor a cat to discuss on MN so I have no skin in this game, however it's not more letters on the sentence level: "Then I had to take my dog to the vet" vs. "Then I had to take Ddog to the vet". No need for a possessive adjective "my" or "our" separated by a space. Technically that's fewer characters to type, especially if repeated in a post :)
I'll get my coat.

TheNightingalesStarling · 29/12/2025 09:54

DOP you can't tell DPeople not to use DAcronyms even if said DAcronyms are rather annoying as that will make you the DThreadPolice (DTP).

HTH

I also came here to say this. My quote didn’t attach, it was ODFOD.
