A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The Labour Party are a juvenile party of spite and envy. To go after farmers and those who send their children to private school is proof. They have fanned the flames of cultural tensions with the double standards on grooming gangs and also social media tweets (Connolly / The Egyptian).

On financial matters they lied repeatedly, with the plagiarist and fantasist Chancellor taking taxes to all time highs whilst claiming freebies at any opportunity.

Their complete lack of probity which would have them sacked if they worked in the City - special mention for Starmer, Rayner, Haigh, Siddiqui, Rushanara Ali.

There is not one thing I can point to which has been beneficial to society.

Yep, they are contorted from lies and spite. So much pent up hate being spewed. No wonder they look permanently ill.

Oh he got his reward, I hope the warm glow of being bought is enough, even he remarked on NI rise

He criticised an increase to national insurance contributions (NICs) from April that he said had “added greatly to the cost of business”

Can't stand him, fucking worm.
What 'upbeat tone'? They're flailing and U turning!
I thought the tories refused him when he wanted to run as an MP? Maybe I've remembered it wrong.

Eugh they’ll get their gongs for getting us into this mess.

I was thinking the other day about Labour lot going on about ‘comms’ being the issue and now Starmer keeps talking at us about stuff. Their best bet is just to stop all that, give us a break from them. They won’t it’ll be tik tok, statements, SM and people will just loathe them more.

TheNuthatch · 03/01/2026 09:37

@EasternStandard Agreed. They'd improve their polling if they said and did nothing for the remaining 3 years....but they won't.
We now have the new year, new Starmer reset to endure. 🙄

@NoWordForFluffy I know, awful isn't it.

I disagree with the FT about opening talks to join the EU being a bold strategy that might turn things around fir Labour.

A lot of people are grumbling about Brexit, but that’s very different from wanting to rejoin with all that would entail.

Yeah, agreed.
I don't think the FT ever got over the leave vote, so not surprised that line was in there.
I wouldn't be surprised if Labour are considering something re the EU though, if they get desperate enough.

Interesting the objections to Trump removing Maduro.
Should USA interfere like that in other countries? I don’t know, but Venezuela has been having a seriously grim time under Maduro and I think had USA removed a right wing dictator - say Pinochet - then the left would be rejoicing.

CaveMum · 03/01/2026 10:47

CambridgeSingers · 01/01/2026 22:41

And here’s more of the same - we’re gong to be treated to an attack on EHCPs with some nice rhetoric about being used to fund falconry, skiing and horse riding…that’s not labour being divisive at all is it? so glad they’re taking a new more inclusive tone…

Parents’ groups vow to fight plans to curb Send support rights

I’m biased of course but there is mountains of evidence around the benefits of horse riding for disabled children - why do they think Riding for the Disabled centres are so common?!

Not to mention the mental health benefits of being around animals. It was Winston Churchill who said “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man”.

We have such a project near us, thankfully mainly funded by one of the wealthy Arab racehorse owners but they likely receive funding from the Government too for the amazing work they do with kids.

Venezuela has been horrendous for the people there for years. Starvation and mass fleeing. Under a wealthy controlling class that doesn’t share oil wealth. Just hearing about all this tbf

Not a great advert for socialism. Idk if MAGA base will be happy with the intervention, but it’s worth listening to what the people who live there say about Maduro going. They obviously had no way to overturn the cruelty.

Hopefully they can prosper from some oil wealth and return.

Pacificsunshine · 03/01/2026 11:03

Maduro going is probably a good thing, but the way in which it happened - Trump making a unilateral call with zero congressional oversight - is seriously scary for me. It is one aspiring dictator deposing another in order to grab further power for himself.

EasternStandard · 03/01/2026 11:09

Just listening to someone say Venezuela is held up as a great example of socialism by some on the left. That’s a reach given how the people are fleeing or starving.

redange · 03/01/2026 11:11

I think if Starmer tried to run an election campaign on re joining the EU here is what would happen

17 Million votes for Reform and the Conservatives..

Maduro is unequivocally not a good person. But that does not give Trump the right to commit acts of war against another country. It is a combination of Dead Cat Strategy (given his tanking poll numbers and ongoing Epstein file releases) and pure greed - you can bet the first companies to try and file mining/drilling licences in Venezuela now will have Trump board members/shareholders.

redange · 03/01/2026 11:21

Surely, Richard Walker is everything the Labour Party is supposed to hate. A man who for years just Surfed in Newquay and then 30 years later happens to inherit a huge family business.

These, Labour types need to be more 'consistent' or is it just 'little' Millionaires they 'don't like such as a successful Publican or Butcher ! Those, with less than £10 Million who they can suggest to the 'Plebs' are the Super Rich.

Agree - if you find yourself defending trump or maduro at the moment you probably need to step back. We really don’t need to pick between the less bad despot.

I am sure there are a variety of perspectives from the Venezuelan people - some of which are now starting to emerge in the press. I suspect many will have conflicted views - many but not all will be glad to see maduro go, but even so unhappy about a unilateral us military invasion, and more commonly frightened about what comes next. I do hope things improve for the Venezuelan people, but foreign military led coup does not usually make things better for the common citizen.

I get what you’re saying. Someone linked this on another thread, I didn’t know much about how it was going there and found it interesting (basically outlines other methods of replacement such as sanctions).
