A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Why the influx of people stalking @percypiggy200 to interrogate about her living arrangements?

This thread is to discuss Labour's failings. The stalkers just look fucking weird. Get a new obsession, people!

Agreed.
It's very strange behaviour.

Yes of course! I think you’re thinking about Saudi Arabia - although women can drive there too now (since 2018 actually). Unmarried couples can live together. You are supposed to dress modestly in public places but this is not observed - people dress the same as in the UK. I wouldn’t kiss on the lips in a public place though.

There is a synagogue in the UAE - in Abu Dhabi actually (which is an hour down the road) - it’s part of the Abrahamic Family House which is three buildings - a church, a mosque and a synagogue and lots of cafes in the middle. I love the idea of it, they are open for worship but also have a program of classes and events so you can learn about the different faiths.

Lots of stuff feels very western, everyone speaks English, all signs etc are in English, it’s all very modern, cosmopolitan, loads of international people. They keep lifting restrictions - they want expats to settle here. They love Halloween - which was surprising to me!

I totally understand your itchy feet - I think there’s also something rejuvenating in packing up your life and moving it and starting again - it’s so exciting, hard but really rewarding. You must feel that way too if you’ve done it so many times!

I love the idea of an Abrahamic Family House.

Yes I miss moving and travelling. Oddly enough I'm not much of a tourist. I love settling in. My shortest contract was 10 months. My longest 4 years. I met DH abroad and followed him home. Smile

It's 5. And I do on jury trials and why they should stay.

But if I was the Ministry of State for Justice and had changed my mind on something of such fundamental importance in the UK justice system, such as jury trials, I would definitely be giving a very detailed explanation for my change of mind.

As it is, he just looks like the idiot he is.

Absolutely. I knew we'd get visitors.
Didn't the last one say she got banned from MN after plopping on here to goad?

Yes and then posted a flouncing thread 🙄

I don’t think being Jewish is an issue in Dubai - I know a couple of British Jews out there but being Israeli or visiting Israel a lot used to be not ideal but has probably improved a bit. Emirati businesses often work with Jewish owned business internationally.

I lived there for a year years ago and came back. Awful weather, terrifying driving, expensive and boring and a lot of showing off for nothing. I’d rather pay tax, have democracy and real defined seasons and primroses to follow snowdrops and sarcasm and satire and pub lunches by an open fire.

At the rate they’re announcing things today there will be nothing left to announce tomorrow!

Whilst not a bad thing per se, the new rise in Minimum and Living Wage will put a lot of extra pressure on businesses - not exactly conducive to encouraging additional jobs.

twistyizzy · 25/11/2025 18:07

My employer used the rise in NMW, together with the NI rises, as a reason the rest of us couldn't have reasonable pay rises. The gap between the lowest paid and others just keeps on shrinking!

I'm not saying they shouldn't have rises, but it would be nice to have a similar % rise!
