A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

While I do agree with you, there's just something inside me that feels sorry for people who are getting a hard time. I know it's all of her own making, but I always feel bad for people out of their depth. Must be such a horrible feeling. Maybe I'm too soft but I hate to see people tongue tied and scared.

You know what they say, if you can't take the heat...

She's also said to the party that she'll still be chancellor next year and the year after and the year after that. The height of arrogance.

She deserves everything she gets and if she had any integrity she'd resign.

I think she'll get ousted anyway. This will all unravel and she'll get the boot, along with Starmer. I'm just worried about who we'll end up with instead.

I've been thinking about this mansion tax. It doesn't affect me by a long shot, but if people can't pay it, I read that they can pay upon sale or death. How will this generate tax? It could take years. I'm not sure it will generate much in the short term.

It will barely generate anything at all, it's another politics of envy bs idea.
Labour want people to think that they're taking the £26bn from 'the rich', when the truth is that most of it will be raised via income tax.

Yep it’s £400m if that. And not for years.

£30bn in other ways.

You know what will happen. Two million will come down to one million and before you know it, your modest 500k house will be in their sights. Also let's not forget fiscal drag, which they love so much. In 20 years my house might be worth 2 million. Unlikely but this is how it will go. Mark my words.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 26/11/2025 18:24

Yes, the Mansion Tax is this year's VAT on private education.

Right, I'm of to finish the wine from last night. Reasonably productive day at work and not too clobbered by the budget. I am wired as fuck though and need to unwind!

This thread is certainly fast becoming the most popular in chat. What with the multiple other branches of people saying how much they hate Labour. Good to see. Thankfully, all the noise is now drowned out as the overwhelming majority are saying what they think. No calls of bot or shouting down. It’s a beautiful sight. Makes the forum useable again. People are saying no. Good. Easy to be thankful of other people’s money when on the state payroll.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 26/11/2025 18:26

But Reeves took 1p off a pint of beer last time round! Hurrah! Bunting! Dancing in the streets! Never let us be ungrateful to this benevolent Chancellor!

Shame that pubs are closing at the rate of one every day now.

Even in the 1970s it wasn’t this bad for business. These people really are outstandingly bad at running the country.

EmeraldRoulette · 26/11/2025 18:31

Some personal thoughts

Does anyone mix in a circle that's very left-wing? I don't talk about politics but one reason I don't talk about it is that the people I know are very left-wing

Going back into the history, almost everyone I know is new to me because I basically lost everyone through lockdown or getting married and having kids (them, not me) I dare say older people will skew more to the right but that's not guaranteed.

A lot of things have caused me to lose confidence over the years, but it occurred to me today that that is probably one of them - never being surrounded by like-minded people is a bit odd. It's particularly odd considering the constituency I'm in, but again it probably is an age thing and probably people on the right are more likely to stay quiet about it.

I was also wondering whether it's worth joining a couple of political organisations. I have been so disillusioned with politics generally, for a long time, that it just seems like throwing away money really.

But it's not that much, and it might be a route to meeting more like-minded people. I don't know really.

I think someone on here mentioned going to a Spectator gathering post budget. That might be the sort of thing that would be good for me, but I'd have to be asked enough to drag said arse into central London!

I find it really hard to tell what the vibe actually is. I mean, Labour had such a massive majority.

agree with the poster who liked the Deputy Speaker. I haven't seen her before.

Yep finally. Great to see some realising.

I just can’t see what the Labour offer is to anyone that is not a low earner / on benefits - really, what is it? Eventually we’ll fix the nhs (take us on trust) and we’re soaking the rich?

They offer nothing to the "rich". The problem we will have at the next GE is the number of benefits claimants who will inevitably vote Labour in order to retain their benefits lifestyle.

TBH I think it’s increasingly the signs of a scrap between Labour and Reform for the left-behind white working class. (Labour is also terrified of losing the Muslim vote, but their attempts to shore that up are purely political rather than economic.)

The trouble Labour has is that many people at the bottom economically don’t want to be there and are aspirational for themselves and their children. Reform’s problems in that respect are masked by their appeal to racists, frankly. It’s an ugly fight that Labour’s getting itself into.

State handouts aren’t the vote winner that the political, leftist charities and the comfortably off vocal MN Labourites think they are.

Don't think Simon Clarke has ever looked this happy, mind. 😁

Dh went to Aldi on the way home and said the shelves of alcohol are being stripped bare. he walked in as one man walked out witth a trolley filled with boxes and boxes of wine.

I did not realise the tax on booze started so quickly? DH thinks from midnight.

Not till Feb 1st. They're probably just drowning their sorrows.

aaah good thanks. I'll let him know. Smile
