A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thank you! I wonder if this will be the budget thread.

Thank you, @TheNuthatch. That cartoon is just a little too close to the truth for comfort...

EasternStandard · 23/11/2025 10:04

Oh my goodness that was so fast I didn’t realise we were at the end. Well spotted and created thanks @TheNuthatch

Upstartled · 23/11/2025 10:08

Morning, just catching up from the last few days. I'm so sorry to hear about how things have worked out with your business @TheNuthatch and the heavy burden on your dh. Labour have ridden roughshod over some families.

I posted on the other thread, but I am wondering of there is more of a breakdown on this?

"'m listening to Heidi Alexander on Trevor Phillips and she had a bit of a Freudian slip with 'chuckling' child poverty, and she keeps repeating that three quarters of children in poverty live in working households.
What does that mean though? Both parents working, full-time, part-time, only one parent working part-time? I really want then to give a proper breakdown of the numbers, instead of parroting just one line."

Upstartled · 23/11/2025 10:24

£6.5bn of benefit fraud and yet we are always told that benefit fraud is incidental and forgettable.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/45b6eb329a1efe55

Presumable the total £9.5bn lost is the additional errors and overpayments. So, of course we need a task force to solve the problem with no more ambition than to reclaim £1.2bn. And then they are going to call this a saving.

Which is a bit like hoping somebody nicks a bit less of your stuff next year and giving yourself a high five.

But benefit fraud doesn’t happen. Isn’t that the line?

It does beg more questions. How could it be just that anyone who is working, however many hours, isn't at least marginally better off than those who are entirely workless?

Morning all, just caught up on the end of the last thread.

@TheNuthatch thanks for the new one and I’m so sorry to hear about your business.

We’re bracing ourselves for Wednesday here, it really is going to be an absolute shit show isn’t it.

It's one of the reasons I'm finding it hard to keep up to date with the threads and the news. It's like I'm braced for impact.

ReevesRuinedChristmas · 23/11/2025 10:31

Just checking in, thanks op.
And the Christmas fall out will kill many businesses at what should be a hugely lucrative time.

I'm posting this purely because of the very unflattering photo of KS. (Puerile, I know.)

Tehe the DM picture editors have a blast I bet.

@TheNuthatch thanks for the new thread.

I've decided I'm not going to watch the budget. It's going to be too awful. Bad news can always wait

We keep saying we'll go out for lunch first time post OP for me. There's a lovely pub with real fires. So I'll be ordering the venison pie and a goldfish bowl of sauvignon blanc. Maybe a drive through the countryside on the way back. Then home to our own fire and a snooze.

By the evening all the data will be available so can tick off the ones that are going to affect us

On AIBU someone has started a thread saying money is just paper, so the best thing to do to solve poverty is print more paper. I'd like to think she's a troll but I'm not sure.😬

Sounds like a plan. I think dh and I may do something similar on Wednesday if he's at home. I don't think I can watch the budget, although I'm looking forward to Kemi's response.
I'm glad you're feeling well enough for a pub lunch after your op.

I'm not 100% sure she is not a troll either. It sounded like she really thought she had hit on the solution. Print more money. Give everyone some of it.

Catatemyhomework · 23/11/2025 10:47

@TheNuthatch thanks for the new thread. Hope you managed to get some sleep last night. I'm dreading Wednesday and I may have to not watch or listen to it. It will stress me out too much. I might just come on here for updates.
