A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

We are bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Why are we getting this dialogue from Labour daily? It’s as if they’re in battle with the public.

Reeves loves the siege mentality - inventing enemies for false reasons, when the reality is a lot more prosaic.

You've answered your own question there

I think it's deliberate.

Every time on every thread when someone says piously 'Oh I would willingly pay more tax' and it's pointed out that they are free to, the response comes back along the lines of 'but my little contribution is just a drop in the ocean and it wouldn't mean much'.

Convenient, much? They get to virtue signal while doing fuck all.

I know I have said this on another thread but what does annoy me is when someone tells someone they perceive as being “rich” that they “should really donate to Charity!”. What Charity / how much / what cause / how do they know they don’t already? Telling other people what they should do with their money is an irritating form of virtue signalling.

Well I can't get any work done today. Everytime I switch on my computer I think about this time tomorrow. It's not doing me any good you know. Plus not sleeping, although I think that's partly my age. I was ranting in my local corner shop this morning. I probably sound unhinged.

Rivalled · 25/11/2025 13:44

I have to watch the woman of a certain age batty behaviour here too @Catatemyhomework you’re in good company!

Sometimes unhinged is good - you have to let it go, occasionally!

I'm the opposite.

I clean when I need an anxiety outlet.
House is sparkling.

I'm looking forward to my lunch tomorrow. We're not on any benefits, self employed, private pension we haven't drawn down, so expect blow after blow in the solar plexus.

Like I said before bad news will keep.

MantleStatue · 25/11/2025 14:09

I'm still thinking of a lunch at the pub @justasking111 as well.

Rivalled · 25/11/2025 14:20

Better to wait for the analysis rather than try to parse the speech really…might need mid week wine tomorrow!

Leak no. 147

Rachel Reeves has decided not to cut value added tax on domestic energy bills in the Budget but is still pressing ahead with a package of support for household energy costs, including changes to green levies on electricity.

SouthernAccents · 25/11/2025 15:07

Labour MPs have accused Rachel Reeves of betraying voters with plans for a £15bn increase in benefit spending in the Budget.

A veteran backbencher said the Chancellor would on Wednesday unveil a Budget “for the Labour Party and not the country” that would do nothing to reduce the welfare bill.

Graham Stringer said Ms Reeves’s decision to scrap the two-child benefit cap, a move supported by Labour voters, showed she has capitulated to out-of-touch party members.

Other MPs said the Budget would be “make or break” for both Sir Keir Starmer and Ms Reeves – although they expected any leadership challenge to be deferred until the May local elections.

I think we will be in dubai for 5 years. Then hopefully come back, but it depends how London is then. If it’s still a nightmare then maybe Zurich. Dubai is not going to be our long term place though I don’t think.

And there is nowhere on earth more beautiful than London!

What's it like in Dubai?

R.e. London I feel it's getting more unsafe everyday.. especially for our girls.

Has anyone seen this:

EXCLUSIVE from Catherine Baski and Jonathan Ames

Juries will decide only murder, rape or manslaughter cases under a shake-up of the legal system which could signal the beginning of the end for trial by jury

Instead, the majority of cases will be heard by a judge alone

David Lammy, the deputy prime minister and justice secretary, wrote to other ministers to say that there was 'no right' to jury trials in the UK & drastic action is needed to cut the backlog of cases in the crown courts in England and Wales

Lammy’s decision goes well beyond the recommendations of Sir Brian Leveson, who was commissioned to review the criminal courts and reported in July

However, there is mounting concern within government that the record backlog of cases in the crown courts, which is approaching 80,000, shows no sign of falling

Yes. It’s not even an idea at this stage - who knows what will happen in 5 years!

It’s very safe, everything is very child friendly, life is incredibly easy, lovely temperature right now, school fees are half of London fees. There are lots of sides to Dubai - it’s not all shopping and brunches (thank God).

But, summer is 3 months of not being able to go outside - most people go away for a month but it’s still really tough and boring if you don’t enjoy the mall on repeat. It’s also a very expensive place to live - rents are sky high, groceries, eating out etc. You have to drive everywhere.

MantleStatue · 25/11/2025 16:36

Can women drive @percypiggy200 ?

I know very little about Dubai. I think I'm unlikely to go there though as they tend I think, to not be fond of people like me (Jewish).

I spent the first 20 years of my adult life living in a range of countries. My favourite was Ukraine followed by Georgia. Then the UK. Even aside from the whole leaving thing I have itchy feet!
