Shallow but I like her outfit.

Poor RR plowing on with budget speech that everyone already knows about

countrygirl99 · 26/11/2025 12:57

Just got back from Christmas shopping. Do I need to pull up the drawbridge and prepare for civil war yet?

DuncinToffee · 26/11/2025 13:06

They are lifting almost half a million of children out of poverty, the end of the world is nigh

Shame

Reeves: "We are ramping up sanctions on Russia and we are freezing known Russian assets. But let me be clear, I don't actually mean the honourable mention for Clacton."

Gosh. Those both sound terrible. Better get out the suit of armour just in case the village erupts before tea time.

ReacherJack · 26/11/2025 13:31

I think RR did a good job, and the budget was reasonable.

And she had to contend with the bloody OBR foul up!

BIossomtoes · 26/11/2025 13:32

How long do we give it before the hysteria dies down? A couple of days? A week?

Until someone leaks the next Budget.

DuncinToffee · 26/11/2025 13:35

For those worrying about being in band F or G

"From 2028, I am introducing a high value council tax surcharge in England. An annual £2,500 charge for properties worth more than £2 million, rising to £7,500 for properties worth more than £5 million."

Thanks Duncin.

DuncinToffee · 26/11/2025 13:58

You'd think that with the budget leaked, Badenoch would do a better job.

Some posters will keep bringing it up, along with snide comments about Labour breaking manifesto pledges and their support shrinking.

Drip, drip, drip. 🙄

Apparently she was brilliant.

She was nasty, benefit street chanting

Mocking Rachel Reeves now.

Yes I can see why they are cheering her on in certain parts of MN

Perhaps that’s what was meant by “on fire”. It really is a return to the nasty party, isn’t it?

DuncinToffee · 26/11/2025 14:20

A few of the Tories looked embarassed by her

Market reaction so far is calmly positive. GBP up a small but significant amount vs USD, EUR, and basket. 10-year gilt yields down 6pts on this morning, 30-year gilts down 9pts. Traders seem to like increased headroom and midde-of-the-roadness of it all.

Not surprising, agreed.

I see some new threads laying into the government over the budget….

Clearly wasn’t popular with everyone….

MsJinks · 26/11/2025 14:49

I’m not economically minded but doesn’t seem dreadful to me - maybe because economics is difficult here but I just don’t really understand why the U.K. is ending under Reeve’s budget - do we want a return to Truss? Or other Tory measures, such as austerity and no services? I think it’s happy memories of furlough that are in people’s minds tbh but that was a Rishi led one off - never again I think.
I wouldn’t have minded income tax increase personally under labour who would improve services but appreciate that would have been a bad political look.
No one minded the proposal of £84k social care cap (Boris) when it would have more heavily impacted northerners by far - so I’m not going to cry about the levy on expensive homes - miaow I know, but maybe I can just get away with that on the cat thread!

I assume you are not actually new to MN so you will have seen all the pre budget threads.

Now the UK has ended, cats rule the world.
