Labour isn't working - Thread 20

TheNuthatch · 17/11/2025 11:40

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

We are bracing for the budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thanks. I'm sure its changed a lot since we lived there. Dh has already had an offer, but like I said I won't be joining him if he goes. Our youngest two are still in education so its not an option right now.

Oh yes I heard ya. We’re the same.

Legolava · 22/11/2025 19:53

But, but, but…it’s not happening remember. It’s anecdotal scaremongering and just not true. Lalalala.

It’s really upsetting to see it impact people we care about. Just no. Bloody Labour

Legolava · 22/11/2025 20:06

My husband too, has been offered big bucks to go to the ME. He is seriously considering it when the children are out of exams in another year and a half as we will all go. I am not sure as he has also been offered relocation another western economy. Lots of people I think are weighing up options. The redistribution curve has gone too far for many. It is real and not hyperbole as the migration figures are showing.

Really sorry to hear about your business @TheNuthatch

We’re in the same Industry and like you have been feeling the downturn. Construction is always hit first, worst and for the longest

Hoping you can all find another way forward that you are all happy with ❤️

OrangesCinammonIvy · 22/11/2025 20:12

Ive literally been given a 1.4% pay rise !
1.4% and I use that teeny extra to save for DD uni next year. Am I going to loose it.

justasking111 · 22/11/2025 20:27

Our youngest finishes his masters late spring next year. He and partner are talking about taking off abroad for a few years. That's another two brains quitting this madness.

Thank you. Good luck to you. We are the canary in the coalmine aren't we. The current climate has the whiff of recession. Labour don't seem to be listening.

They are unbelievably arrogant and clueless.

Vindictive and craven to boot.

ds Masters bioscience and zoology finishes next Sept and he plans to leave
ds neuroscience degree plans to leave
ds in the arts / cinematography also plans to go

In which case as two Architects we won’t stay either
We’re only staying to be near the kids atm.

I feel it’s less the ctax burden and huge IHT but more the hate
I was shocked by the pp that 50% want to tax the wealthy more whether it makes more money or not. It’s the education envy all over again.

It’s horrible and making me feel unsafe
I don’t want to live in a country populated by such envious idiots

Just reading about exodus by businesses due to doom. I don’t even know why the few Labour supporters are still batting for them. Do they not know anyone in the private sector?

No, because they don't get it. "it's my money from the glubbermint innit."

This is precisely how we feel.

Perhaps something has irrevocably broken - even when this government are out, you stay here with the knowledge that you are living amongst those who despise you and your unearned ‘privilege’.

Gosh thats a huge loss to the UK if all of you leave. Even just your talented dc. What a waste. My eldest is already abroad.

I know what you mean, I feel it to. It feels hostile to anyone who's done well.

Completely agree @ProfessorDrPrunesqualer if the govt had a plan that wasn’t killing private sector growth…and their rhetoric wasn’t ‘this is fair’ - the sneering gaslighting is the worst. It’s not actually fair and you could pay the same high taxes in other European countries but have a better quality of life and public services due to other sections of society paying their ‘fair’ share.

I even have relatives, brother and cousins, who are hostile when it comes to our money differences
Despite the fact they know I lived in ‘squalor’ for years as a student which they never experienced

I think this sense of entitlement has been long coming and it’s not going anywhere
So we all will

Same here. I’m NC with my brother now but my dad is just as bad. He feels his is entitled to the same lifestyle as me but has also admitted that he couldn’t be bothered to make any effort with a career. I’ve just been put forward for promotion at work in a job that I’ve been in for less than a year but I haven’t told him because it will just wind him up.

Are all the cash machines empty for a reason! I have tried 5 cash machines today and every single one has been out of order or has had no money in them.

Have the Government taken all cash out of the Machines to stop a run on the pound or perhaps to stop people hoarding cash, money out of the country or putting cash under the floorboards !

12 months ago i would myself think i sound like David Icke, now I am wondering if they are expecting to announce 'something' big around the Budget on Wednesday.

What also is very concerning around 12 months ago the David Icke types were touting the possibility of conflict between the 'Yankees and the English people' reference to (Battle Of New Orleans song by Lonnie Donnegan) in this case us being the Yankees. This is now potentially stated by 'intelligent' people like ourselves.

CandidLurker · 22/11/2025 21:09

I do think many people will be withdrawing large amounts of cash. This is what people do when they become very anxious about economic stability. Same thing happened in 2008.

justasking111 · 22/11/2025 21:14

Bugger I need cash for my cleaner and hairdresser next week 🙈

redange · 22/11/2025 21:22

Some potential suggestions: Currency Control Maximum of £50 in cash withdraws all cash taken by business must be registered by an . electronic receipt. The country is getting 'very' scary and descending in to the third world. We are already a 2nd World Country.

I am finding it increasingly difficult to drive in the complete darkness that seems to have just happened overnight. The councils have just turned off all Street Lighting or Road Lighting out of Cities/ Towns or Motorways. Many towns and cities on Saturday Night look as dark as Dehli looked 30 years ago when i flew over it !

Evening all.

Sorry I've been quiet, having a rough ride atm but have been reading along.
Our business is done, I am officially unemployed and our income is currently a big fat zero! This has been brewing for a while but I didn't want to share at the time. We had 8 staff, all trained by dh and like family to us.

I can't put into words how much I despise this government. We survived the financial crash and covid, but we didn't survive Starmer. I am avoiding the news and sm atm so I don't have to look at his face.

Ah, I’m really sorry to hear that.

redange · 22/11/2025 21:30

I am so sorry to hear that The Nuthatch..

OrangesCinammonIvy · 22/11/2025 21:33

NoWordForFluffy · 22/11/2025 21:49

I'm so sorry about your business, @TheNuthatch. 💐
