Labour isn't working - Thread 20

1000 replies

TheNuthatch · 17/11/2025 11:40

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

We are bracing for the budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Labour’s North Sea ban is damaging business, says ExxonMobil

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/6044df0e6533cf35

Behold, the mother of all shitshows.

Trump has offered to lease it I believe 😁

So these threads are designed as echo chambers for everyone who already agrees. You should put that in the title. Here I was thinking I could learn something here

No we don't all agree but we're respectful of each others opinions and experiences. Our country is so diverse geographically and economically. Our issues so varied. Urban and rural, villages, towns, cities. One size does not fit all

This is appalling. I was hoping Kemi would go harder on this today.
It certainly is the mother of all shit shows, and likely irreversible in this case.

I’ll just go back to ignoring these faux innocent “new” posters who have such low comprehension and are New To Mumsnet.

I didn't drop in until thread 15 I think. Hadn't read a word of the previous threads. I hope y'all weren't paranoid about me. That's how echo chambers are born.

EasternStandard · 19/11/2025 19:53

Upstartled · 19/11/2025 19:32

Yes, it really does. It is crazy. And now we have a scattergram of additional taxes coming down the pipeline and we will get absolutely nothing for it. Nothing will be better.

Edited

I heard part of the answer on this before having to switch off but Starmer did his oh it’s bad but we’re helping low tone voice, which is as annoying as the affronted hyper one.

They’re causing the problem!

Not at all, it’s great when new people join, if they fit with Labour's not working vibe.

Yep.
His tone had me raging. The important thing is that we help the workers blah blah.
He could help the workers by resigning and calling an election. They don't want sympathy, tea and cake ffs.

I'm pro tory yes. Have been for over 20 years now. I am a big fan of Sunak. We have posters who recently voted Labour, right through to Reform members on here. Its not really a debate thread, and we do not knife each other or start bun fights. That's the only rule.
We discuss the current government. Not the previous gov, not Reform, not Trump, not the Lib Dems etc. Just Labour and the shite job they are doing.

Thanks for a straight reply!

No, not at all. You've been a great addition. I think there was only 4 or 5 of us at the start. Its great that we've grown. ❤️

Pretty much everyone has come along at some point mid-conversation, that's the nature of MN. I was here before @TheNuthatch coined the Labour isn't working threads but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was called before then and I was jumping in mid-conversation.

ThisFirmRoseViper · 19/11/2025 19:57

justasking111 · 19/11/2025 19:38

I'm not if that helps.

I've seen all party individuals and departments criticised for being absolute plonkers, that includes the SNP and Plaid who don't feature in the national press daily but affect lives in Scotland and Wales.

Thanks. I remember reading something about people being politically homeless because no party works for them.

We get a lot of attacks from posters masquerading as genuine, but actually want to insult us. You are welcome to join us if you feel the topic is your cup of tea.

It was all fields back then. We’d get people just land and rage at us just really full on bizarre stuff 😬

It was Angela Rayner’s housing that kicked it off, it was a laugh

It would be helpful if younger people approaching the threads were able to take part without intimidation. I think younger people are put off by that mocking if you don't know go google it attitude that is common in the right. The left feels more welcoming. However I do see the flaws of labour, and wanted to understand what options we have as a country so came here.

Upstartled · 19/11/2025 20:02

Wait, wasn't there a Rachel from Account threads and we all got called misogynists? 😂

I don't agree that the left is more welcoming. It only is if you agree with their views.

Julen7 · 19/11/2025 20:04

Does anyone remember a thread called “Labour - death by a thousand cuts?” I posted on there and then it filled up and stopped. Then I noticed the “Labour isn’t working” thread (no idea which number) and started posting on there.

justasking111 · 19/11/2025 20:04

Anyway before I got sidetracked. I was thinking about Starmers dad who appeared not to have a high opinion of his son. I suspect I might have an inkling why. But that was something of an age and time, when the lumberjack song wouldn't have gone down well in that household.

The left only welcome you if you agree with them. Disagree and they quickly become nasty

How do you suggest people guess the ages of new posters? We constantly get name changers + "newbies" popping up here to purposely goad/derail the thread and cause trouble. Genuine posters who want to engage are welcome but the other type gets short shrift.

SouthernAccents · 19/11/2025 20:05

it feels that way tbh. I was eaten alive when I tried to engage here. Laser focus and contempt or something.

Hey, I answered in good faith and you seem to think I was being weirdly aggressive. I'm not sure that we are going to meet your threshold of welcoming.

We all hijacked a thread about Angela Rayner (sorry billysboy) iirc. I suggested we start a thread etc, and you all agreed to come along. Then I started a thread titled 'continuation of AR housing thread' so we could continue gabbing.

We filled that one, and I was caught off guard, late at night and a bit drunk. Needing a thread title in a hurry, Labour isn't working is the only thing I could think of. Here we are, still gabbing 20 threads later. 😂
