Labour isn't working - Thread 20

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

We are bracing for the budget. 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

So these threads are designed as echo chambers for everyone who already agrees. You should put that in the title. Here I was thinking I could learn something here

🙄

This is what I find interesting. Yes, London is the only red area left on the map. Yet it's going to be mainly London tax if/when they go ahead with council tax/ mansion tax /whatever property tax. How stupid one can be to hit your only remaining support base?
It's very unlikely for London to support Reform so it's likely to become blue? Don't think LibDems can pull it here.

It’s a bit bizarre. I suppose those with property who voted Labour bought into the “fully funded” narrative. They’d get better services without stumping up. And maybe state school users with a house who thought yeh get the VAT going.

We use state so that applies here, but I just thought it a total rinse of a policy.

They are not echo chambers, just yesterday we had differing views on something. Have you even bothered to read any of the thread? It’s like you’ve dropped in from outer space.

InterestQ · 19/11/2025 19:05

I’ll just go back to ignoring these faux innocent “new” posters who have such low comprehension and are New To Mumsnet.

I'm new to the forum... are you unable to answer my questions?

It's a bit rude to rock up on a long running thread series and demand responses.

Legolava · 19/11/2025 19:06

I am amazed all these new posters to the forum always find this thread. It truly is a Christmas miracle.

London is up for the local elections in May and that's going to be really interesting.

Do you think we should throw more buns and start insulting each other? Make a bit of a performance out of it? It must be quite confusing for those from the left to see amicable disagreement?

redange · 19/11/2025 19:15

Its because every other Political thread on this site forwards a left wing bias, with the 'odd' brave poster against . The best case for those posters is that their opinions are ignored, but mostly get rounded on and bullied off.

Any way like Martin Luther King: 'I have a dream' That on the 1 million supporter England World Cup Winning Parade outside Buckingham Palace Keir Starmer gets on stage to a singing 'choir'. Keir Starmer's a W**R and to your'e Getting Sacked in The Morning !

I can dream.

Oh great, that ear worm. Kier Starmer is a Wanker is far too catchy. I'll be humming it on and off all evening now.

Yes that must be it, obviously too respectful to each other on here 😊

Yes, are people in this thread pro-tory then?

I'm pro tory yes. Have been for over 20 years now. I am a big fan of Sunak. We have posters who recently voted Labour, right through to Reform members on here. Its not really a debate thread, and we do not knife each other or start bun fights. That's the only rule.
We discuss the current government. Not the previous gov, not Reform, not Trump, not the Lib Dems etc. Just Labour and the shite job they are doing.

I think it just helps to be practical about these things. The conservative government wasn't the dream team of what I wanted but Sunak and Hunt were engineering a growth of sorts and with that, unemployment was low, inflation was lowering, taxes were steady. That sounds fucking fantastic to my ear now after watching Reeves hobble businesses up and down the land, fuelling unemployment and engineering inflation in our most basic of needs - food, and jazzing out the bond markets by failing to cut welfare, this demanding that we all pay more tax to paper over her incompetence . I could go on, but everyone else has heard it all before.

Edited

feels like Golden Age then - job market was booming, we were struggling to recruit on sky high packages, inflation was going down dramatically after inflation caused by the war in Ukraine. And they actually reduced taxes.
They had decency to remove Truss when she screwed. Unlike the current lot

DancingFerret · 19/11/2025 18:43

Oh, yes, Lammy - I remember him.🤔

Unless I missed something, he and his giant brain/mouth combo have been MIA for the past few days. Has he been locked in a broom cupboard somewhere to save him from himself (or Labour from him)?

He was in the house today, sat next to Starmer looking confused, as always.

I found it quite poignant. There was Starmer, the most unpopular PM we've ever had, flanked by Reeves, the most unpopular Chancellor we've ever had, and Lammy, who needs no further description. Fucking dream team right there.

Yes, it really does. It is crazy. And now we have a scattergram of additional taxes coming down the pipeline and we will get absolutely nothing for it. Nothing will be better.

I'm not if that helps.

I've seen all party individuals and departments criticised for being absolute plonkers, that includes the SNP and Plaid who don't feature in the national press daily but affect lives in Scotland and Wales.
