Austicks book shops, Peter Maturi kitchen stuff. I could spend a fortune in either.

I like Dillon's the book shop as well, it had an amazing spiral staircase. Oh, and Ainsley's bakeries were far better than Greggs or Coopland.

Tammy Girl and ClockHouse in C&A. Not that I'd be able to shop in them now as I'm no longer young.

Summerbean · 16/11/2025 15:00

Tchibo. I make a beeline when I see one on trips to Europe since they closed over here. C&A are all over Europe too

Aworldofmyown · 16/11/2025 15:03

Woolworths, Wilkos and The Pier (gorgeous homemade).

I bought my Christmas decorations in The Pier closing down sale. They’re still beautiful 18 years later

HoppityBun · 16/11/2025 15:09

The Body Shop

by which I mean the original Anita Roddick Body Shop, where you could buy bottles of shampoo and shower gel in different sizes and get refills.

Thinking of Lush, I miss its predecessor, Cosmetics To Go.

SliceofTosst · 16/11/2025 15:10

I'm going to Germany and Austria next year and will go to Woolies and C&A there!!!

Anyone missing wilko need to go Uxbridge I went there a few weeks ago and they have one.

Juliancantcope · 16/11/2025 15:19

Not a chain but Neal Street East in Covent Garden… full of lovely homewares and curios - there was nowhere else quite like it.

Also Johnny Rockets… an American style diner in Soho.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/11/2025 15:22

Anyone missing a monsoon - we still have one in Bath and I spied a wilcos when in Exeter last year

Edited

I’m amazed, I didn’t know that thanks

Borders at Lakeside and Dillons in Cambridge are two I miss.

I also miss Spud u Like in food courts and there were two amazing cafes in Cambridge a long time ago - Steps which did a tremendous lasagne, and Oasis which was a cheap and cheerful Mediterranean cafe

Fgfgfg · 16/11/2025 15:40

In Liverpool, Owen Owen and Lewis's (not to be confused with John Lewis). Lewis's for the restaurant and food hall. Owen Owen for the amazing grotto at Christmas.

Lucienandjean · 16/11/2025 15:46

The Pier

ClaredeBear · 16/11/2025 15:48

piscofrisco · 16/11/2025 15:48

Topshop (specifically Topshop Oxford Circus).

Illbethereinaminute · 16/11/2025 15:49

Woolworths because it sold everything! If I ever need something like insoles/hemming web I always think Woolworths would have it.

BHS for bedding and Christmas presents although Dunelm has kind of filled that spot for me.

Applepe · 16/11/2025 15:58

Dolcis. Got a cracking pair of black suede, knee high, platform boots a la Baby Spice from there. I loved them. Wore them until they were beyond repair.

Notmycircusnotmydonkeys · 16/11/2025 16:00

Neal Street East. Sometimes I’m very lucky and have a dream about finding it has reopened somewhere random

StrikeForever · 16/11/2025 16:00

The Pier. I loved it for pieces of furniture, lamps and other lovely household things.
