BHS
Woolworths
Especially at Christmas

PinkArt · 16/11/2025 12:45

Big Topshop. RIP.

ZoeyBartlett · 16/11/2025 12:47

Debenhams, House of Fraser and BHS. Used to love going up to London after Christmas to buy something with my Christmas money!

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/11/2025 12:47

Pied a Terre shoes. I spent a fortune (repeatedly) in their Covent Garden shop when I was a new grad working in London. Their shoes were just amazing. They sold the brand to Nine West in 1996 and that was the end of that. 😥

kerstina · 16/11/2025 12:47

I miss habitat the big shops they used to have.

LauderSyme · 16/11/2025 12:48

I miss Woolworths like it was when I was a kid.

Once I was grown up it had become a messy, mish-mash dumpster fire of a shop and I could never get out of there fast enough.

But as a young'un choosing pick-a-mix, back-to-school stationery (especially their divinely fragrant erasers!) and taped music, it was a veritable wonderland.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/11/2025 12:49

House of Fraser in my local town centre. Dickens and Jones in Regent Street. Talbots.

hattymattie · 16/11/2025 12:52

Laura Ashley Home
Edinburgh without Jenners 😫

Needmorelego · 16/11/2025 12:54

None really because when one closes a replacement retailer that's very similar comes along to take it's place.
Currently struggling with being able to buy household basics with all my local Poundlands closing down - but already some closed branches have had similar retailers take over the premises (One Beyond for example) so hopefully this will be a temporary problem.

MagdaLenor · 16/11/2025 12:54

Definitely Proper Habitat!
Past Times
Brian Jordan's music shop in Cambridge (bit niche but I'm still heartbroken about it a decade later)

Bagamama · 16/11/2025 12:55

Paperchase. I could guarantee I could find a funny / cool card in there every time I went. And their stationery ❤️.
Wilkos.

MagdaLenor · 16/11/2025 12:56

Paperchase was brilliant, plus Past Times.

Achewyhamster · 16/11/2025 12:56

Some many good suggestions. But GAP for me

RowersDelight · 16/11/2025 12:57

I used to like Bentalls in Kingston, before they built the mall. I was young and it was a magical shop, especially at Christmas.

MagdaLenor · 16/11/2025 12:57

@Achewyhamster I also bought everything for ou first baby from Mothercare!
Plus all my maternity clothes.
Happy memories.

Notmyreality · 16/11/2025 12:57

The Pier. Loved all their stuff and we were well on the way to kitting our house out before they closed.
High streets have never recovered from 2008.

Meredusoleil · 16/11/2025 12:58
