A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Starmer is toast now, surely?
He has made an utter fool of himself today, two weeks before a budget from hell.

Streeting was impressive today. The knives came out the night before he was booked for the media round, and had a big speech to deliver. I'm sure that was deliberate, but Streeting has used all that media coverage brilliantly.

Do we think he will last the course though? The thing I am reading today is that post May elections there will be a mass rebellion in the Labour ranks,
i have decided I want to keep him - he’s awful but if he goes Labour will surely lurch further to the left,

I'm torn.
I want Starmer to stay to make absolutely sure that Labour lose the next election. They will be obliterated with him at the helm.
On the other hand, we desperately need some leadership to get through the next few years so I would welcome Streeting as a replacement. I don't want to see a lurch left, but I think Streeting is a Blairite so he might not be too bad.

Yes (tired after another day non working) - this is the conundrum isn’t it?

Plus, Starmer has now admitted to having had a hand in the appointment of the new football regulator, even though he took donations from him. He’d denied it up to now.

If that had been a Tory PM just imagine the indignant shouting from Labour about corruption, sleaze and lying!

What a complete arse that man is. And the hypocrisy of the left is gobsmacking.

No I don't think so, but I'm not au fait with the Labour lot. I think he's to the right, and has been labelled a Blairite.
He has voiced concerns over digital ID, and he was against assisted dying.

Yes this is how I feel about Labour and all this. If Starmer is ousted I’d like the digital ID to go with him and the two child cap change.

Oh really? Thanks for the info.

Agree with your take, and yes, imagine the noise if this was the tories.

I think she’s very good. Slow start at PMQs but it was never terrible. She was faced with an arrogant, dissembling weasel. And in any case it was tough stuff immediately after a crushing defeat.

I also rate her highly on her instinctive approach to what Toryism should offer in the longer term, as a breadth of policy. She’s not a hang ‘em and flog ‘em reactive loudmouth. She thinks.

Yes absolutely to all this.

I'm not sure on that one. As I said, I'm not au fait with Labour. I need to do some reading on Streeting. I like him though, he's the best they have and I really don't want digital ID.

Thank you. I googled it earlier and AI came up the top left wing MPs in the Labour party. Many of them women actually. Anyway Streeting wasn’t in the list, so I’m guessing he can’t be hard left.

CruCru · 12/11/2025 21:00

Can Streeting control the Labour MPs and work with the Chancellor? If Rachel Reeves knows that Starmer has been briefing against Streeting, Streeting won’t want her around.

Same. That’s the biggest plus I can see if Starmer takes that idea with him when he goes.

Is Streeting to the left?

As I understand it, Streeting’s in some ways centrist and in others more left. He has a reputation as a ‘which way is the wind blowing?’ type.

I fear he would get into bed with the anti-Israel mob in an effort to save his seat. Which I don’t think he’ll manage anyway.

I wonder what Starmer will do after Downing Street. He’d be no good on the speaking circuit: nobody wants to listen to a humourless adenoidal dalek. And who’d buy any book by him? Perhaps he’ll tend the donkeys in his field that he didn’t declare a trust over.

I imagine that sacking Reeves would be number one on any new PM's to-do list!
