A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I do wonder about the intelligence of people who can't understand that bias in the BBC is a huge issue due to the way it's funded, as opposed to private businesses which can have whatever bias they want to.

Exactly. Other outlets aren't pretending to be impartial, or forcing us to pay for their bias.

Exactly. Other outlets aren't pretending to be impartial, or forcing us to pay for their bias.

If the BBC want to sell themselves on impartiality and believe they can meet the demand for that then fine, do subscription.

Let’s see some standards and rigour to meet that claim and let payers decide if they stand up to it.

If they could only stop their gender woo bias.

Indeed but of course they won’t.

Like most left wing organisations, they hate women.

Much like the Labour party who have never had a female leader / female PM, the BBC have never had a female Director-General. Shocker.

SpaceRaccoon · 10/11/2025 09:45

I have no objection at all to media outlets being biased if they are private entities.
Publicly funded ones should be scrupulous or lose their funding.

Immigration was being discussed on the last thread and I thought this was worth a read.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm2lknr2d3go.amp

I’ve recently become close friends with an Iranian family and it’s very interesting to hear their story/how they came to this country. Also her view on OMH in June.
One of the most welcoming, generous families I’ve met, and spent the whole afternoon/evening cooking us Persian food.
Unfortunately, she feels that sense of
of ostracisation.
And I have no problem with the St George’s flag - but it’s the reasoning behind putting them on flag posts/roundabouts that I have an issue with.
There was a YouTube video promoting roundabout flags on the last thread.

A black dinghy with a red stripe around it, on a grey sea and grey sky. There are lots of people, mainly men, on the dinghy wearing fluorescent life jackets.

From thread 17…

Frankenchino, I think you’ve misunderstood the differences between the BBC and newspapers. Newspapers can be as biased as they like. The Telegraph is, the Guardian is, the Mail is, the Mirror is etc.

But the BBC is legally obliged to be impartial and accurate. It’s both a broadcaster and publicly funded. It doesn’t have any freedom to express a view or support one or other side. By law.

As it happens I remain a big supporter of the BBC. But it doesn’t exactly help itself.

The manifesto for a new Government:

Day 1: Abolish the BBC
Day 2: Reform the Police Service
Day 3: 'Outlaw' the Labour Party. Members will be put on immediate medication for their illness . We must understand that being a member or voting Labour is not the individuals fault and should be worth 12 points on a PIP application.
Day 4: Sack everybody in the 'Home Office'
Day 400: Laugh at Ed Davey and the Lib' Dems who will vote for Polanski to keep out Reform/Tories !

DancingFerret · 10/11/2025 09:56

Thank you, @TheNuthatch.

I think one of the reasons the BBC has been allowed to get away with its obvious bias has been our inability to accept what used to be a British institution loved by many and affectionately known as "the Beeb" or "Auntie" has turned into something unrecognisable and also untrustworthy. There's almost a sense of loss, certainly trust.

Trump launches broadside at 'corrupt' BBC as bosses quit in disgrace

Tim Davie and Deborah Turness sensationally stepped down amid an impartiality row which has rocked the national broadcaster after an internal report accused it of bias and censorship.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2025 09:57

I don't necessarily think the BBC should be abolished. I do think it should be funded another way though (then it can be as biased as it likes!).

Frankenchino · 10/11/2025 10:00

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame

I think there is a tendency for right wing individuals to perceive more left wing bias in news sources.

redange · 10/11/2025 10:01

The BBC will fold if it goes to a Subscription Service. It has zero chance against Netflix/ Amazon Prime. Nobody under 40 watches it, in-fact I was asked by my 35 year old cousin does the BBC have adverts.

Frankenchino · 10/11/2025 10:02

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame

And if you look at this thread, there is a bias of Telegraph/Mail and ostracisation of someone who is more left thinking.

So you can’t accuse others of bias without being aware of your own bias and how you attempt to exclude other opinions?

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2025 10:05

redange · 10/11/2025 10:01

It could still go to an advertising model, it doesn't have to be subscription.

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2025 10:06

Oh my god. A thread about how poorly Labour is doing shows bias against Labour / the Left and its policies! Stop the press.

redange · 10/11/2025 10:07

Regarding bias in the media.

GB News for instance is so concerned about OFCOM they always have a 'left wing' pillock on like Mathew Stadlen/ Bill Rammell. Then there is LBC and James O Brien who should be named Lord Haw Haw such is the hate and bile for the traditions of the United Kingdom !

EasternStandard · 10/11/2025 10:07

NoWordForFluffy · 10/11/2025 09:57

I don't necessarily think the BBC should be abolished. I do think it should be funded another way though (then it can be as biased as it likes!).

I think it should run on having integrity and no bias but see if it can match that claim via getting people to pay for it.

It needs to back up its impartial claim to the extent the public buy it.
