A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

"Regimental association at Cameron Barracks 'told to leave'" https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/6890358/cameron-barracks-inverness-regimental-association/

Quietly in the Highlands, veterans are being evicted for asylum seekers.

I'm speechless

That couldn’t be more disgusting. I wonder who agreed this.

‘Members of a long-standing regimental association have been told to vacate Cameron Barracks in Inverness to make way for asylum seeker accommodation.

The Cameron Barracks Regimental Association, made up of veterans with ties to the site and local military units, has recently been informed that it must leave.

The Ministry of Defence-owned building is being repurposed as part of a national effort to house asylum seekers arriving in the UK.’

They shouldn’t be displaced (whatever the usage) by unvetted male asylum seekers with no documentation. Sorry but no. This needs to stop. People who worked to save the uk being moved on by people who don’t gaf about the uk, apart from what they can get out of it.

I agree. Not that I'd agree to housing 300+ unvetted men in the middle of Inverness anyway, but if the barracks is already in use, by veterans no less, than they should absolutely take priority.

Upstartled · 12/11/2025 14:26

Just managed to watch a Kemi's questions at pmqs. She's definitely on form. Was Starmer being heckled by his own party? I couldn't work out which side of the house all that noise was coming from but the volume on what I saw, suggests both. Is that right?

The RA is based there, the veterans don't live there. The RA has been asked to relocate for 12 months. It is sad for them, but veterans aren't being made homeless as pp feared. I just thought it was a good idea to make that clear to pp.

Yes. Veterans work there - use it. But don’t live there. The point stands though - they shouldn’t be being turfed out for ‘asylum seekers’.

I can’t bear to watch it / listen to it. The guffawing heehawing and braying. Like deranged donkeys 🫏 but 💯 not as cute. 🤮

I was relieved that Starmer was elected Labour leader too. I thought he was centrist and hopefully sensible and woulnd't be anti business.
We live and learn I guess.

Same here.

TBF, compared to many them he is somewhat centre.

Yes, it's hard work and I can only stomach it occasionally. But you can definitely chart the political mood by it and things feel like they've hit a fever pitch. This bloody delayed budget has everything deranged.

Upstartled · 12/11/2025 14:43

Although I live in hope that Streeting, who no doubt would still be as mired by the socialists in the party as Starmer, could wrestle the leadership from Bollard and at least display some political acumen so we can get through the next three years less bloody traumatised.

Nor can I, always wonder to myself why they can’t just talk/behave like normal people 😅

It was particularly bad today. Even Hoyle had to tell them all to stop carrying on like it was a pantomime.

And as non working people we are paying for those pantomime dames / clowns / villains.

I’d not have Any non-work if I behaved even a bit like they do. Mind you my non work isn’t possible without qualifications. Perhaps that’s the issue. 👀

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/11/2025 15:01

If I had a penny every single time they said We Are Focused On Delivering For The Country I'll have enough to retire.

Rexinasaurus · 12/11/2025 15:01

Starmer is definitely the dame.

Dame Bollard.

Well, given current thresholds, we are non-working people paying the wages of those non-working people, who - should they behave like that in most working environments, would be asked to pack up their things and leave - at which point they then become working people.

Welcome to the employment equivalent of men becoming women and thus rendering women non-men.

Rivalled · 12/11/2025 15:25

I had to guffaw - tuned in late to PMQ bbc live at lunchtime and some Labour mp I didn’t recognise being interviewed claiming that whilst they needed to ‘bear down’ on unemployment they’d created 359k jobs.

and this is the credibility gap - I’m sure that this claim is ‘true’ if you split the data enough ways but the fact is we all know the economy isn’t booming and the jobs picture is bleak.

all govts do this now - if I report the stats for c range or y range or z range, i can say something positive but nobody is taken in and destroys trust further.

Rivalled · 12/11/2025 15:26

I hate the language too - what are they, having a jobs baby?

DancingFerret · 12/11/2025 17:52

I thought Kemi did well today; every word and jibe she directed at KS hit him squarely between the eyes.

What I found more interesting, though, was the bags under her eyes and general demeanour of our "esteemed" Chancellor - seemingly worn down and exhausted; pretty much like most of the public as a direct result of her arrogant mismanagement of the economy.

I don't believe I said that made it OK. I was just explaining as the person who originally posted about this said veterans were being evicted. Which is not the case. Anyway, I'll not trouble the thread further. Just popped back to respond to you.
