A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

Bracing for the budget 😬

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

The sad thing is, that Cbeebies is excellent. I can't think of any other avenue where you can get such high quality children's TV. If I think about the EYFS curriculum, a lot is covered in Cbeebies - identifying emotions, promoting problem solving, difference in others, understanding basic facts about the world, basic maths and reading. I can't think of a single show that would not be beneficial in some way for young children. We promoted Cbeebies a lot in our classroom as kids (and I saw toddlers doing the same) just watched rubbish online.

I really can't say I get the same feeling of excellence from the main channels. We really don't watch it. I can't see what the point of it is. They seem to have a large number of influencers doing investigative reporting. It doesn't seem very high quality...

I think a large part of the issue is that “The Left” tend to be very puritanical and don’t understand that political parties need to be a broad church on many issues.

I’m a right-leaning centrist and on several occasions have posted in these threads opinions that others disagree with.

Not once has anyone demanded I be cast out for expressing those thoughts. I have however been called a Tory Bot many times in the past on the “left wing” threads so no longer bother posting on them.

It’s not mere opinion that this goes on, for anyone in doubt I really recommend reading The Righteous Mind which talks extensively about the tendency of the Left to their unwavering belief that they are always in the right.

I think the left tend to be more idealistic and the right more realistic.

And In yet more shocking news..

‘UK attitudes towards benefits claimants and criminals are hardening, according to a survey that reveals younger generations’ growing discontent with the country’s “broken social contract”.

For the first time in a decade the majority of British adults believe the generosity of the welfare system stops people from supporting themselves, according to the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen).

The share who strongly agreed that less generous benefits would mean people “learn to stand on their own two feet” has surged to 23 per cent, the highest level since records began in 1987. Among young adults the share jumped from 13 per cent to 28 per cent in the past year.’

Thanks.

Those views will harden further as taxes increase.
Gordon Brown seemed convinced this morning that there will be at least some change to the 2 child cap in the budget.

The school I worked at had families with over 10 kids. The biggest issue wasn't what the materially had, although they were undoubtedly poor, it was that the parents had no time/ desire to actually care for them.

Seriously to the two child cap being removed? That isn’t going to help the black hole.

Oh it will help it greatly, make it even more impressively humongous.

I'm afraid CBeebies was one of the biggest pushers of the trans agenda. See the 'I am Leo' documentary, many of you will be familiar with it.

Red meat for the back benches. Just a flacid attempt to stop them ousting Starmer, even though he suspended a group of MPs for calling for the cap to be lifted a year ago.

The awesome Cath Leng in The Times:

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/media/article/bbc-news-editors-trans-issues-junior-staff-bxjp3t7j3

"The journalist said she began pitching gender critical stories that were being covered in many other mainstream news outlets, but they were continually ignored. These included the high-profile employment tribunal of Maya Forstater, a think tank researcher who was sacked for her views and went on to win her case, setting a legal precedent that “gender critical beliefs” were protected in law.
Leng said: “I just got blanked, completely blanked. Then when you push it next time, you’re accused of having an agenda. That’s how it worked. I was routinely accused of bias and inappropriate behaviour by my colleagues and editors.”
She claimed that when she suggested booking guests from gender critical organisations to be interviewed on BBC News she was stonewalled. “There seemed to be a blacklist on people like Sex Matters, Transgender Trend and LGB Alliance,” she said."

‘I was forced out of BBC News over gender critical views’

Cath Leng claims younger LGBT reporters acted as ‘gatekeepers’ on trans stories and gender critical coverage was censored

Yep they might kick off. Mahmood’s plans are also so far from where Labour are Powell and her core values must be spinning.

Gordon is one of those advocating for a hike in gambling duties to cover the cost of removing the cap.

The Treasury will need to pay close attention to what has happened in The Netherlands following their increase in gambling tax - upped from 30.5% to 34.2% earlier this year and due to go up to 37.8% on January 1st.

The impact has seen the closures of large numbers of betting shops resulting in a projected fall in tax revenue of €40million from the sector. In addition there has been a big shift in gamblers moving to the black market operators who obviously pay no tax at all.

My last post has a link to the Racing Post and an article on the damage that increasing gambling duties has had in The Netherlands.

Obv MNHQ don’t like such links!

I would perhaps lift the Child Cap from 2- 3 Children. The simple reason being we need a family unit of around 2.8 to ensure birth rate/ workers at the moment it is around 2.4. At Present though it is not justifiable in the current economic circumstances.

Yes I’ve read the proposed “mansion tax” has also come from the backbenches and is not supported by Starmer. He is so weak.

redange · 10/11/2025 11:26

Presently it is not justifiable...

Yeah, the Danish model will ruffle a few feathers.😂
As with ending family reunification and "golden tickets", there will be silence on here I suspect.

Rory and Alastair are doing an emergency pod on the BBC debacle at midday if anyone is interested.

redange · 10/11/2025 11:32

Regarding Graham Stringer he is the last member of the current Labour Party who has decency common sense and presence. The fact that his ideas like Kate Hoey are more in align with current 'right wing' thinking highlight how far the Overton Window has shifted left.

This is why I despair when the narrative that the Conservative/ Reform parties are far right when in reality they are slighter to the left of Centre Right. I also think that Reform is to the left of the Conservative Party on economic issues.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 10/11/2025 11:35

So it may have been said already, Emily Thornberry telling us the BBC is a beacon of truth is peak gaslighting for very early in the morning
