I thought Streeting's reply was good, liked the Traitors reference too.

It’s all very odd! I was listening to Ben Kentish last night on LBC (not good at sleeping) he was saying this has all come from No 10, he said he’d never seen anything like it!
Wes just on GMTV saying this is biggest attack on a Faithful since Joe Marler in the final!

PandoraSocks · 12/11/2025 08:42

The Streeting rumours are mad. He has a tiny majority in his constituency. Not to mention a slightly shady past.

I agree that leaving the budget this late was mad. I have never seen such a feeding frenzy. The speculation contradicts itself half the time. There are nutters on SM predicting (or pushing) "civil unrest".

Civil unrest about what? Are people going to go on the rampage because of a 2% increase in income tax? Or because Labour lift the two child benefit cap?

BIWI · 12/11/2025 08:50

This is all beginning to feel like an orchestrated coup, isn’t it? First take down the media (well, the BBC), then go for the leadership.

The simultaneous timing of these two things surely isn’t a coincidence?

I do like sprouts, but only when well cooked - definitely not al dente - and with a shedload of butter. Block Lurpak for preference. One of the worst things I ever made was back in the 80s, when vegetable purées were all the rage. Sprout purée. Hideous. So bitter, and it got worse no matter what I added! (Second only was Jerusalem artichoke purée which, although it tasted good, delivered the worst bout of wind (pain) and farting (stench) I’ve ever experienced.

PandoraSocks · 12/11/2025 08:54

Sprout purée! ⚰️

BestIsWest · 12/11/2025 09:05

They are not known as Fartichokes for nothing.

pointythings · 12/11/2025 09:21

I love sprouts. They're great done with bacon, or alternatively stir fried with fresh ginger, garlic and some dark soy.

PandoraSocks · 12/11/2025 09:33

In an internal email, Reform members were urged to “politely decline to participate” in the film about the party, which was due to air in January, citing “disinformation” in the Trump film.

The memo said: “We want to be clear that October Films have always conducted themselves professionally, and there is no suggestion from our side that they would maliciously misrepresent Reform UK.

“However, following the Panorama documentary the trust has been lost, and both BBC and the production company will have to do a lot of hard work to regain that trust.”

Ha. More like a handy excuse to dissuade members from taking part in a documentary about the rise of Reform because they so often reveal themselves as racists.

And excellent in a curry.

As I said, overprepared until they are unrecognisable. Everything is good stir fried with ginger, garlic and soy…

yes this is very much in the “this is delicious with cream and butter” category

PS - love sprouts, but just respect them and don’t overcook!

Private Eye is a public service, imo. They hate everyone

I think another pertinent question is how right wing will they go with the replacement Director General!

Thank you for the thread DuncinToffee.

PandoraSocks · 12/11/2025 12:04

Why did the thread demanding a GE get zapped I wonder 🤔

DuncinToffee · 12/11/2025 12:29

I didn't see that thread.

Badenoch finally seems to have had a good PMQ's.

Mashed overcooked sprouts Envy This thread is taking a nosedive now

Yes, I saw it but didn't bother looking at it, I wonder why it was zapped.

I like sprouts but just plain and definitely not overcooked.

MsJinks · 12/11/2025 13:36

Not sure about all this hounding for a GE - or a new labour leader - they tried suggesting Burnham, not even an MP, now Streeting - a bit of stability is needed, and nicer, even if this isn’t the preferred government for some it’s better not to keep shoving all our governments through a revolving door.
Has anyone had the misfortune to try tinned sprouts? My youngest loved them - as she never ate a whole tin at one go though the remainder lurked for a day till her next go - the smell! Not sure you can still even buy them - for very good reason!

Deafnotdumb · 12/11/2025 13:39

I love mumsnet. Where else do you decent political commentary, flavour pairings, sarcasm, random facts and the best flapjack recipe in history?

I think our press have been spoilt after the roller coaster succession of Tory leaders and they are looking for something to generate clickbait. Which is why you have Farage popping up as the media darling whilst Lib Dems get ignored.

"Worthy" doesn't get attention. Photogenic, shocking or entertaining does. I loathe the bastard, but Boris Johnson was good at off-the-cuff and showman speeches. What a pity he was such a plonker at everything else.

countrygirl99 · 12/11/2025 13:47

I'm reading Failed State by Sam Freedman. Very interesting point of view but It's making me put my head in my hands and wonder how the hell we get out of this.

Deafnotdumb · 12/11/2025 15:08

Re: Failed State.
If we can't service our debt anymore it will be the IMF and a lot of cuts.

Sam Freedman’s Substack is very interesting.

That's not going to happen.
