A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I think the battle will be more simple than that !: A battle for the British way of life.

i.e The right to earn Significant money, the right to drive, the right to educate our children Privately/Selectively, the right for privacy the right to Travel.

RoyalImpatience · 07/11/2025 22:29

The bottom line is the problem the Tories faced were natural consequences of years of endless misery and every other country in Europe and other places also suffered .
Little green shoots were starting to appear and unfortunately labour stormed in and stamped them out.

However in spite of being in opposition for so long they just blamed the Tories on the financial hits and now they realised actually it's a huge problem and they can't just solve it either .

@38thparallel

AI is finding the words better than I can. But basically this:
“The rise of far-right movements contributes to increased geopolitical risk and instability, primarily by promoting nationalism, protectionism, and potentially undermining international alliances and multilateral institutions, which some experts argue narrows the "room for miscalculation" that could lead to large-scale conflict. “
Farage has expressed admiration for Putin in the past. Putin : a supreme manipulator of people who are ill-informed and desperate to believe something. He lies and bullies - uses fear, torture, restriction of outside news and murder.

Do you think there are any/many examples of Farage using manipulation tactics to coerce those who are desperate to believe something??

This kind of story is getting beyond a joke now. How many more jobs have been handed out to their mates/contributors?!

I know that it happens in every government, but when you run on a “above reproach” platform you are just asking for these headlines.

Sir Keir Starmer

Tories call for Starmer to face probe over football watchdog role

It comes after Lisa Nandy was founded to have breached rules during a Labour donor's appointment to the role.

Wow - it looks like NI on pension contributions is happening too. How many ways can the govt rob me in the name of fairness?

This is the sort of thing that enrages me about Labour.

This Nandy story is a small issue. But if the Tories had done this the Labour screaming of “sleaze!” and “corruption!” would have been endless. Their campaign of falsehoods and exaggerations was very successful.

Then we get a stream of dodginess from Labour from day 1 in office. But now of course it’s ’nothing to see here’. Labour is an astonishingly dishonest party full of rank hypocrites.

I was reading that this morning. I honestly long for the days when budgets were secret until the day itself and there was no speculation beforehand.

This budget is like death by a thousand cuts.

Delaying it has made things much worse.

Rivalled · 08/11/2025 08:21

It’s really quite scary that we have a govt that thinks it’s acceptable to hit the same group over and over all at once. The speculation has been record breakingly bad…

Yes they really are.

SpaceRaccoon · 08/11/2025 08:29

The pension NI thing will absolutely fuck us. And next year they'll probably remove the tax free drawdown as well.
I hate them.

MabelsBeats · 08/11/2025 08:33

I’ve not read the thread yet as it’s long and I need to get going in ‘real life’, but am just on to say how miserable and tense I am about the budget and about what the revolting 🤮 Labour government are going to do.

In my family we are looking at income tax increases, doubling of council tax, NI relief being removed on pension contributions, and a pay-per-mile tax on EVs. We’ve already been clobbered by VAT on school fees. It’s insane.

I will need to stay in the UK as we have a child doing GCSEs this year, but I’m urging my husband to look at jobs in the UAE with a view to him breaking UK tax residence and breaking free of this absolute shitshow.

@Frankenchino I don’t know. Maybe you should ask AI.

The rise of far-right movements contributes to increased geopolitical risk and instability
There are also far left movements. Presumably they also contribute to increased geopolitical risk and instability etc.

Yes it’s a Labour’s not working thread anyway.

Rexinasaurus · 08/11/2025 08:56

Sorry to break away from the pre-budget chat (I’ve gone grey rock on that until it actually happens, my stress levels were too high!). @MabelsBeats yes to everything you said.

But for this morning….. Who does the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) really work for? A New Statesman investigation explores how one of the world's richest men - Larry Ellison (Oracle) - influences UK Labour government today via the former Labour Prime Minister.

Larry Ellison - more powerful, as wealthy as Musk et al but unknown to many.

TBI. Tech takeovers (self driving cars in Ethiopia anyone? Great test ground. But poverty? Etc).

Money making tech billionaires. Digital ID anyone? Ah Starmer! We knew you’d like it.

National data library for tech companies to use for their own growth purposes? The UK
is perfect with the NHS, data library since 1948. Like ‘striking oil’ for tech companies who need data to continue to grow. No other country in the world has such a record of their citizens health. Etc.

Ellison donates ‘injections millions into’ to TBI - I wonder why. Digital ID consolidates our data for the billionaires to make more billions. No benefit to the plebs whatsoever. There’s a reason why one of the world richest men (American LE directly influences Labour as above) - standing up in Dubai - and giving a talk about our NHS.

The last part talks about Ellison buying tik tok. Which Farage and the reform party are hot on and could well be used to win the next election to Uk election - the conservatives should get in to that now. And then about Blair in Gaza, which is a whole other issue.

Sorry bit of a scrambled summary but, troubling (not surprising) information.

Lastly, from me not the video - Don’t do digital ID. If no one does it - the tech billionaires and gvt have no control. They can’t arrest everyone.

To my mind, if you have to resort to what AI thinks about something, you don't have a coherent argument yourself. 🤷‍♀️

SpaceRaccoon · 08/11/2025 09:12

@Rexinasaurus that is both hugely troubling and somehow unsurprising. That's exactly what I'd envisage re Blair.

I was just musing as I listened to a Labour MP struggle on how they’d defend a manifesto break after it happens that MPs need to do media rounds.

I think a main reason Rayner had to go was that Streeting and others couldn’t cover for her after she lied. They couldn’t do the media rounds.

It could get so bad that MPs can’t defend Labour and choose to just go instead. Not yet but with some more rounds of this chaos.

The pension NI thing will absolutely fuck us. And next year they'll probably remove the tax free drawdown as well.

The sad thing is that this is really a HUGE financial disadvantage for the young. If you look even at £800 less per year from age 30 with the lost compound interest you are into 6 figures lost. It won't have a huge impact on those close to retirement, but it's shocking to do it to the young, who may well not have state pension and are trying to do the right thing.

Once again, we will find ways to cut back on day to day spending as I don't trust the state to take decent care of us.

Rivalled · 08/11/2025 10:06

For people and businesses who are being hit by multiple measures this is a big attack. Reeves isn’t protecting our abilities to invest in ourselves and our futures and it’s yet another bloody cost that’ll make firms think about dropping headcount…

and as for big tech - they already own the world,
and are well on their way to controlling it, and us. Absolutely.
