Tattoos aren’t cool anymore …

I watched this video and found it really interesting. The first minute or two with the girl are a bit annoying, but once you get into it, there’s a lot being said.

Also, this video (which is a bit sadder), of people who definitely regret their tattoos

Personally, I am not anti-tattoo (though I used to be). Sometimes I think they can look good. However I think both videos really bring out the problems with them, particularly of course their permanence, as well as identifying fashions.

I just thought it would be interesting to share ….

I’m definitely not cool, I’m a 50 year old accountant. I do have two tattoos, I got them quite recently because I love them and they have a bit of meaning. I also don’t have saggy skin as a PP suggested as I’m 50, not 80.

cramptramp · 03/11/2025 17:20

I’ve always wondered what the women who had the whole of their necks tattooed (so they look like they have a permanent polo neck on) will look like when they get old. Mine is now horrible and wrinkly without any tattoos.

These threads honestly !
Tattoos have been around along time !
They will always be around if u don’t like them fine (wind ya neck in ) I don’t like ya net curtains but I’m not banging on about them on a forum cus they not cool anymore lol
As I said they been around forever and people still have them !
it’s a personal choice and if u regret them it wasn’t the scene for you if u have them to TRY and b cool u will regret them !
if your cool your cool whatever you choose !
People need to make choices that they want to do and not follow what everyone else is doing ! Own your style !
(I do have a lot of tattoos but u wud never guess only in the summer ) 😎

Well you could bang on about net curtains if you felt strongly about them.

Welcome to the world of public forums where people can remark on whatever they want, and bullies telling them to wind their neck in can fuck off to the far side of fuck and keep going.

Have a nice day ... That's a suggestion not an order....

Yes but the tattoo debate regardless of how it’s presented in the first place people just jump on and are nasty about tattoos that is bullying
Not me who is just saying Jesus give it a rest we know u don’t like them a lot of people don’t but do u always have to jump on the forum and give your nasty opinions ????
And @Umy15r03lcha1 u have just come on with a response to me have you actually replied to the ops post ?

Diddlyumptious · 03/11/2025 17:57

I personally don't like tattoos but I can appreciate the craftsmanship in their creation - though not all sone are just bad. You do you

This might disappoint you, but nothing about what that poster has said indicates they're feeling 'triggered'.

Edited

Indeed.

Quite telling thst some mumsnet tropes appear on these threads all the time and they can't help themselves from being snide and downright rude. Even when posters detail that its to commemorate tragic losses. They still stick the knife in.

Just can't help themselves trying to make others feel shite.

Best letting the Seasalt brigade just whoooosh on by😁

I haven’t got a tattoo on my neck but I do have a few elsewhere. Having lost a lot of good people at a young age way before their time I’ll just be grateful I’ve made it to old age and not care what they look like. Life is too fragile and short to worry about things like that. I won’t worry about wrinkles or grey hair either, it’s part of the aging process.

Probably wrinkled but with a tattoo.

I've had a couple of comments along the lines of "urgh imagine what your skin will look like when youre 80"

Yea, it'll be the tattoo DEFINITELY spoiling my looks, im sure ill be devastated 🤣🤣🤣

I assume their necks will just look just like yours, just tattooed.

Personally, I'll just be glad I'm healthy enough to have made it to old age. I'm not sure what my tattoos look like will be of any relevance whatsoever.

Ill be old and wrinkly and if im very lucky I might still have all my wits about me and my lovely family around me.

Whatever condition my tattoos are in they are part of me and mark important times in my life.

Ill look at them while listening to Bryan Ferry and smile to myself. If I live that long

Fuck me this argument about what will they look like at 90 amuses me🤣

LargeJugs · 03/11/2025 18:15

I waited until my 30s to get them so my taste was more established and I could afford a better artist. My legs are nearly covered and I have many others. I love them. I can always cover them with trousers if I ever hate them!

Fedup48 · 03/11/2025 18:38

Oh no! Totally gutted , that I, a 51 year old professional woman with 10 tattoos and plans to get many more, is not cool. Whatever will I do?

PevenseygirlQQ · 03/11/2025 18:40

I can understand people not liking tattoo’s, everyone has personal preference, I just don’t understand why anyone would judge someone for them?

Tattoos are so regular now, you see them everywhere, some are fashionable some or not, but at the end of the day who cares!

Well for one you can thank your lucky stars that you've avoided the type that puts no tattoos on their parameters eh? After all its only the poors and chavs that have them apparently?

Bet youre glad about that!

CatchTheWind1920 · 03/11/2025 19:53

I'm 36. Have two tattoos, one when I was 21, another when I was 24. I don't regret them, but I didn't get them to be "cool" either...
Both of my tattoos were thought out and I didn't rush to get them, I made sure I was sure first.
Might get another one day, might not.

No I don't look like I've a polo on,I've some taste.
You age,skin sags,tattoos fade.
Who cares.
I don't.
There's worse things than growing old.

Worried198423 · 03/11/2025 21:43

I find these threads fascinating.
Like it's ok to come on here and be condescending and rude another tattoos.

But you'd never here it about anything else.

If I went up to someone and slagged off their clothes or hairstyles I'd be considered rude.
And rightly so.
But woman with tattoos are called chavy, unclean, must have mental health issues. And we are supposed to be ok with that and not take it too heart.

Same for me, a 45 year old professional woman with a shit tonne of them and hopes to get many many more. So, so sad that some people dont like them or think they are cool. I personally fucking love them 😎

Said teen daughter sounds smug and unlikeable! haha

Nobody gets a tattoo to be 'different' anymore, it's more uncommon imo to see someone without any at all. I'm often actively surprised when I meet someone who hasn't had one, because they're so extensive. It's pretty much the norm to have tattoos in many areas.

FYI "smug" teen DD now has tattoos of her own. She is very likeable, and not at all smug.

ObliviousCoalmine · 03/11/2025 22:29

Oh good. It’s been a while since a thread pointlessly listing all the ways people are repulsed by tattooed people existed, thank god this one has popped up.

Same as yours but different colours. It’s not a difficult concept?

thoughtoffiodthoughts · 03/11/2025 22:43

Tattoos aren’t given the wow factor anymore when it comes to who’s got them. So many people have them it’s very mainstream. Nans are getting first tats in their 70s, church going SAHM mums are getting them, some judge who is also on TikTok has several, married couples get matching ones along with friends or family members.

it’s no longer sailers and prostitutes like my nan says 😂

my point is they aren’t any less popular if anything they are more popular but the tats are becoming more complex and more thought out and many are pure art rather than using a needle and ink on your mates at a sleepover when your a teen

Yes, me too. It is generally acknowledged that it is unacceptable to comment other people's bodies in any other way. Imagine a thread where someone made these comments about people's hair or body shape or personal style. People would be rushing to tell them that their nasty comments were unacceptable. Yet when it comes to tattoos, for some reason it is okay to be as unpleasant as you please.
