A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I was also baffled by Chagos. THAT's the thing he prioritises the self-same second he comes to Government?

CruCru · 04/11/2025 13:18

My goodness, the Times blooming hates Reeves. The photo of her (right at the start) is appalling.

There’s a thing by Rod Liddle from the weekend. He says that “Rach has a terrible memory. She forgot the awful book she wrote about female “role models” was copied and pasted from Wiki and various other entirely uncredited sources. Cue a sort of apology. She was a bit misted, too, on her abilities as a chess prodigy too, believing she was the “under 14s champion” when she had actually finished 26th=.” There’s a load of other stuff about her career and the selective licence but it’s all so bloody damning.

The pity of it is that finishing as joint 26th is pretty great. Once she said she was champion it doesn’t look it any more.

I said it further up thread. There is something very smelly about the whole Chagos Deal. It happened so quickly, it wasn't mentioned until it went before pairliament, no consultation with the Chagossians, it seemed to be plucked out of thin air. However, when you factor in the Mauritian government is in bed with the Chinese, things start to become a bit clearer. Colour me cynical, but once the deal is finalised, how long will it be before the Mauritians hand over Chagos to the Chinese? It's a deal by the back door. The stench is overwhelming.

It's the only thing that makes objective sense @upseedaisee . Which makes the deal not just smelly- but sinister.

Really?

It deserves to be

I think the news that the Mauritius folk were flogging it off to the Chinese has stirred up the white house. Who do have leverage.

Absolutely.

Ditto with the Chinese embassy.

EasternStandard · 04/11/2025 13:28

Ditch Chagos. Ditch digital ID if they have any sense.

Since they’ve already given up no more announcements or bad ideas, just sit it out until they’re booted out.

SpaceRaccoon · 04/11/2025 13:46

Yes just try and not make anything worse. Least done soonest mended.

The NHS needs scrapping and start again. It's just another government blob that absorbs money. There's so much waste and corruption I despair. It's far from the flagship healthcare it once was. I think we can all tell a story about waiting lists, A&E nightmares and not able to get a GP appointment.

Absolutely spot on!

😂😂 Oh dear. I was initially trying to think about links between the battle of Hastings and Rachel reeves. Had I missed something? Sussex? Essex? What is it what’s the link?

Then it dawned on me.. 1066 is such a long time ago… I got there eventually 🙈🤣

The Chinese theme with this government is strange - them destroying the Chinese spy case just last week was so so odd too. That has all been forgotten far too quickly. If they did it the way I see they did - literally collapsed a case of Chinese spies in the UK - it is treasonous surely?

I'd imagine Kier likes the Chinese style of government quite a lot, he's copying their ID system in plain sight

Catatemyhomework · 04/11/2025 15:42

This is awful in the run up to Christmas as well. I'm shitting myself. I'm self employed and haven't been getting much done as I'm genuinely paralysed with fear. My long suffering husband is very pragmatic and says "well you can't do anything about it can you?" He had a payrise, not much but enough to take him to between higher rate tax band and 100k. My income is nothing in comparison. We are so fucked! Sorry for the dramatics but I can't concentrate on anything else until we know what's happening.

Catatemyhomework · 04/11/2025 15:50

On the plus side, my house is band C and we have no savings! Yay! They can just take all our income. Fantastic. Can't wait to be robbed blind. Bunch of fuckers. Honestly, I'm so bloody cross. I'm going to dead by 26 November at this rate.

Catatemyhomework · 04/11/2025 15:52

Hope these labour wankers are on here, when they're looking at raiding people's incomes and realise we are not rich. Honestly, I know families on benefits with higher take home pay than us. They don't have the stress of actually having to earn their money.
Sorry, I'll stop now.

And they don’t pay tax on the benefits either.

Edited

Exactly, and once you factor in prescriptions, eye tests, rent paid, they are better off. Plus the pip for anxiety and DLA for 3 kids with Adhd.

Catatemyhomework · 04/11/2025 16:00

Plus, they still get child benefit. Ours stopped years ago. I want to know, how many families on benefits still receive child benefit with a benefits 'income' equivalent to a 60k salary after tax. I'm going to put in a FOI request.

You are completely right.

I used to be in a role where i had to carefully examine people's finances (family law- looking at divorce settlements and eligibility for legal aid).

I am a qualified solicitor and it used to astound me how people on benefits had more take home income than me. As said previously on this thread- someone once did an AMA about her benefits. Not working and clearly just shy of £5000 a month with everything added up.

Fuck me. That is shocking. Yet they remove child benefit from families with not much more than a 3k a month income after tax. I feel ill.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 04/11/2025 16:02

I may be missing something, perhaps in the definitions. But how is Reeves attempting to blame ‘austerity’ after this government tried to cut back WFA and welfare payments? They were forced to retreat by their own MPs. But where’s the logic?

If the Tories were wrong to curb public spending (they weren’t wrong to do so) why are Labour’s cack-handed and useless attempts to do something of the same not equally blameworthy?

This is desperate stuff by Reeves and Starmer.

And they’re probably going to remove the 2 child cap. 😑
