A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

If she doesn't do anything to reel in the benefits culture, Powell's "rivers of blood" could become a metaphorical reality. The public mood is ugly enough already; I dread to think what'll be like after the upcoming Budget.

I genuinely believe so, too.

Labour have no idea what they are doing.

BTW there is a nasty edge to Reeves - the previous smirking and the ‘whining’ comments etc.

Rexinasaurus · 04/11/2025 12:22

The council tax thing swishing around just cannot happen. There is so much disparity in housing location house size pricing. A band G in one area would be D in another etc. They simply cannot justify that move.

I think it could prove a poll tax moment…

Excellent comment from Andrew Neil re the speech

He told Times Radio her message had been: “It’s everybody else’s fault: it’s Brexit, it’s Donald Trump, it’s Humpty Dumpty, it’s the Duke of York, it’s all the king’s men, but not me. I fixed the foundations.”

Rivalled · 04/11/2025 12:26

Yes, whining, bleating - Labour think a portion of the electorate is enjoying it, and based on some lf those threads, they are.

upseedaisee · 04/11/2025 12:28

Let's face it, if we on here are ready for a fight, imagine that multiplied throughout the country. The poll tax protests could make a comeback and for pretty much the same reasons and that was pretty much the downfall of Maggie.

Agree
Everyone needs to change their bank accounts or delete the direct debit so councils don’t automatically take out all that extra money she wants.
Council requests to banks will be bouncing back all over the place

Be prepared

Rivalled · 04/11/2025 12:31

If they relentlessly hit the same 1/3 whilst claiming constantly they’re simply rebuilding the foundations and righting wrongs, yes, think there will be a protest…

Could imagine the the panic if everyon stopped their direct debits and we all, as one went to the council offices to pay in cash? Pound coins preferably!🤣🤣

Pennies for me😅 but I’ll only be paying some random figure I’ve plucked out of thin air
as that’s Labours modus operandi anyway

Of course I may just be too busy marching to queue anyway

I’ve considered this.

Akin to PA trying to obstruct the police and court system, people could challenge this government and HMRC at every turn. Simple attrition. They made it personal from day one.

The tax payer is the fucking customer - those who are recipients, including the Chancellor, should show a little fucking respect.

Tell me it is so….

Hopefully they’ll have a downfall.

You still get tax us more types, or tax them more usually. How, why are people so wedded to Labour?

It’s bizarre. A blind bat could see how badly they’re doing.

My conclusion?

The remaining few who have circled the wagons are not serious people - they are child like and almost deserving of our pity.

Sir Keir Starmer’s Chagos islands deal has been delayed after the threat of defeat in the Lords.
Ministers have been forced to pause legislation to ratify the treaty after a Conservative peer put down an amendment to make them consult the Chagossians before going ahead.
On Tuesday morning the Government said the Bill would now not go to committee stage as planned, meaning it will be delayed.
It will give the Government more time to consider how to take the controversial bill forward, and campaigners hope it could persuade them to drop it altogether.

The BBC’s Arabic news service chose to “minimise Israeli suffering” in the war in Gaza so it could “paint Israel as the aggressor”, according to an internal report by a whistleblower.
Allegations made against Israel were “raced to air” without adequate checks, the memo says, suggesting either carelessness or “a desire always to believe the worst about Israel”.
BBC Arabic, which is funded partly by a grant from the Foreign Office, gave large amounts of space to statements from Hamas, making its editorial slant “considerably different” to the main BBC website even though it is supposed to reflect the same values, managers were warned.

The BBC also gave “unjustifiable weight” to Hamas claims about the death toll in Gaza, which are widely accepted to have been exaggerated for propaganda purposes, and incorrectly claimed the International Court of Justice had ruled that genocide was taking place.
Danny Cohen, the former director of BBC Television, said it was now clear that the BBC was “not safe” in the hands of its senior managers and they should “hang their heads in shame and resign”.

Let's see how they like their deals and rules stuffed up... turnaround's a bitch.

hamstersarse · 04/11/2025 12:57

The Chagos deal is the strangest thing I’ve ever seen a government do. I still don’t understand the reason why they did it, can anyone explain it to me as if you were our great leader KS?

Rexinasaurus · 04/11/2025 13:00

We need to pay more taxes to support all of these people, people!

UK records biggest increase in asylum claims in Europe.

UK asylum claims jumped in 2024 even as applications dropped in France and Germany

A total of 108,000 claims were lodged in 2024, reflecting a 28pc jump on the 84,000 recorded in 2023.

This increase far outstripped the UK’s peers across the Continent, including France and Germany, where the number of asylum claims actually fell.

Last year’s tally was also the highest number of applications on record for the UK, according to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), eclipsing 103,000 asylum claims lodged in 2002.

The latest figures will raise fresh concerns over the Channel migrant crisis and the Government’s ability to crack down on small boats.

Sir Keir Starmer in September admitted Labour had failed to recognise problems over the number of people seeking access to the country, acknowledging the party “did shy away from people’s concerns around illegal immigration”.

No idea what the rationale was behind the Chagos deal

But it triggered a memory of a song. I don't really know actually, I think it might've come out before I was born and I heard someone cover it. "oh no not me… I never lost control… you're face-to-face with the man who sold the world"

It's exceedingly petty of me but I always use my debit card to pay for parking in council car parks. Because it means they have bank fees to pay.

We are a Band G house. I tried to get it changed a few years back because it was designated a Band G when it was on a double block, before the previous owner hived it off and built a second property. So it's now the smallest one on the street but the only one at a Band G (rest are F and below). Council said 'No, you have to show us the EXACT property like yours which is a Band F. Well we can[t show an identical property because half the street was built in Victorian times and the other half in the 70s as plots got sold off. We can show pretty much like for like as close as reasonably possible, but that's not good enough.

Crikey, there's a blast from the past! The man who sold the world by David Bowie and Lulu in the 70's

EmeraldRoulette · 04/11/2025 13:16

@upseedaisee thank you

I looked up cover versions, I definitely haven't heard an original, but I can't find anything that fits with what I've got in my head, probably just was watching random music on YouTube and somebody covered it.

Anyway, that is what Chagos makes me think of. I just don't get it and I was particularly puzzled when I heard that people living there hadn't been consulted in any way.
