Not entirely fair Serendipity - Reform are very much in favour of US companies fracking in the UK.

(although I don’t suppose fracking can be considered green given the environmental impact)

Spandauer · 30/10/2025 17:11

Playing catch up as per. Thanks for the new thread Duncin

RR news depressing because, whatever the outcome, the damage is already done - headlines, Xweets, news bulletins all being salivated over by the usual suspects.

Cat Tax - she's disappointed too.

The Guardian has updated. It looks as though Reeves might be in the clear:

"Officials believe that the messages, which will be published later on Thursday, will back up Reeves’ case that her failure to obtain the necessary licence from Southwark council was inadvertent.

In other seemingly positive news for Reeves, Southwark council said in a statement that while it did not comment on individual cases, it only pressed for action such as fines when someone did not apply for a licence within 21 days of being warned they needed one, or if a property was found to be in an unsafe condition. Neither is believed to be the case for Reeves"

DuncinToffee · 30/10/2025 17:33

In other news, Reeves' house has a serving hatch between the kitchen and dining room.

Does anyone know if she has a cat?

And extracting the wealth thereof.

I mean the flagshaggers might well believe that it will be free money for all white people when Farage is in charge (and there is a rhyme we need to be used somewhere). But their core leaders couldn't give a shit about the average Brit. Of any colour.

Worth the breaking news banners earlier

Harvey & Wheeler, the estate agents used by Rachel Reeves to rent out her property have apologised for an "oversight" after they did not apply for a licence on her behalf, having offered to do so.

So ? Since when has the truth ever been a defence to the press ?

Notonthestairs · 30/10/2025 17:46

Oh for heavens sakes. So the lettings agent said they'd do it and didnt.

Oh, that will be very disappointing for some.🤭

You mean they are creaming off a fat %age and doing fuck all ?

Sorry, Rachel, welcome to our world.

PandoraSocks · 30/10/2025 17:51

I don't really like Reeves that much, but this has made my evening. The Mail tried its best to hang her, but it didn't work. Badenoch looks like a fool for jumping the gun. Very satisfying.

If Starmer has any sense he will send a message to every MP telling them to triple check their affairs are all shipshape and water tight

I find myself wondering how the story found it's way into the public domain ? It was very noble of St. Kemi to kneecap Tory commentary on the upcoming budget by crying wolf over a nothingburger.

I couldn't be more happy to be wrong 🤩

InMySpareTime · 30/10/2025 17:58

How can they triple check everything when the experts they ask apparently have no responsibility to be right in their advice? Who is the arbiter of fact when individuals bear responsibility for knowledge they don’t have access to?

BIossomtoes · 30/10/2025 18:02

Apparently the letting agent has been got at. Despite supporting correspondence and emails from last year. 🙄

Excellent and let's hope this clears the matter up. Both Patel and Badenoch should be ashamed of themselves and learn the lesson that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - though I wouldn't put a bet on it.

I know that HMO licences are published online, so perhaps the same with this type. The Mail went on a digging expedition is my guess. Thought it had struck gold and set the right wing hares a-running all over the media and social media.

They both look like idiots now. So it is all good.

countrygirl99 · 30/10/2025 18:13

So she did check it was needed and put in place a process to get it but the agent cocked up. Fair enough.

It's Keir's beer all over again.

PandoraSocks · 30/10/2025 18:20

Tories not happy. They want an investigation:

"CCHQ is in less forgiving mood. It has just issued this statement from a Tory spokesperson.

Last night Rachel Reeves said “she had not been made aware of the licensing requirement”. Today, we find out that Reeves was alerted to the need for a licence in writing by the estate agents. Having been caught out, the chancellor is now trying to make the estate agents take the blame, but Reeves never followed up with them to ensure that the licence had been applied for, or checked if the licence had been granted.

Regardless, under the law, Reeves and her husband are responsible for ensuring the licence is granted.

With more information coming to light every few hours, the prime minister needs to grow a backbone and start a proper investigation"

Starmer does need to grow a backbone and tell the Tories to eff off.
