Thanks! Perdy cat is intermittently unwell with various ailments the vets can’t diagnose, butthere she is choosing an inconvenient place to sleep. She has double beds and sofas available to her, but chooses the clean towels.

Tusind tak!

My tax is a burger. Not edible, though.

… and thank you for the new thread.

Off to catch up on the news about Rachel Reeves. FFS.

… and thank you for the new thread.

Off to catch up on the news about Rachel Reeves. FFS.

FFS indeed.

From the BBC:

"Reeves' allies admit she should have got a licence, but claim she was specifically told by the estate agents at the time that they would advise if she needed a licence"

Shades of Rayner. If she can't produce solid evidence of this then she is rightly toast. Even if she can, I think it might be best if she goes.

Morning.

It's a year today since my dear Ginger cat died . I still miss him.

Howtoaccept · 30/10/2025 06:49

So sorry @Piggywaspushed

Howtoaccept · 30/10/2025 06:57

I actually support the government but without at least some type of scrutiny how can Starmer say that Reeves not getting the licence was inadvertent. Surely every landlord of a single property can say that? It should be at least the council investigating a breach.

Get ahead of the story and take action immediately. I don’t really care if it’s double standards compared to the previous government, they already know how it can play out from previous ministers

Aw, Piggy. It is a year and a month since my beloved tuxedo cat died and I still miss her like hell. So big hugs from me. 💐

The whole thing is infuriating. I mean hasn't Reeves heard of google? A few seconds of googling brings up this.

There is no excuse.

I wonder if this will be Starmer's way of ditching her? Let her deliver the budget. She breaks the manifesto pledge by putting up income tax. Then she stands down or is sacked.

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2025 07:27

Piggy Flowers sorry to hear that. You’re really going through it grief wise atm.

PickAChew · 30/10/2025 07:30

Flowers] for those missing their furry companions.

Reeves has already been subject to a great deal of questioning of her competence so make the mistake of relying on the say so of someone who wants commission out of renting out her home, rather than doing some basic homework does not help her to disprove that.

I can understand her having the mistaken idea that an estate agent should know such things but they also want to start making that money with as little delay as possible and some are not known for being the most scrupulous.

BIossomtoes · 30/10/2025 07:34

To be fair to Reeves the letting agent she’s paying to manage the property should have known about and taken care of this license. I let my parents’ house for a brief period and the agent dealt with the gas inspection and all the admin associated with being a landlord. If a license had been necessary (it certainly wasn’t in most places then) they’d have dealt with that too.

PickAChew · 30/10/2025 07:36

The Bus Services bill has been passed and is now the bus services act.

Bus Services (No.2) Bill passes into law as the Bus Services Act - routeone https://share.google/XXNCsD5IPETbVgKTE

PandoraSocks · 30/10/2025 07:40

I am afraid I disagree @BIossomtoes

The licensing issue is not complicated. There is an interactive map on the council website she could check. Yes she handed everything over to an agent, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't check for herself too. It is basic common sense for someone in her position to be certain everything is above board.

Good morning! Before I shoot off to check the Dutch election, here's my cat tax.

Oh Lord, I haven’t paid my tax! Are we imposing late payment penalties?

We’ll have to agree to disagree @PandoraSocks.
