A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

🤣🤣 Good morning!
That looks just like himself when he was a kitten.

@NoWordForFluffy Thos cards are going to look fab!

I think this Rachel Reeves debacle has been timed to perfection. I lay odds on that the budget is a disaster and she will now be sacrificed on the alter of Starmer and take the blame. Like some of you have already said, the chancellor job is a two horse race between Torsten Bell and Darren Jones. God help us all! Everyone 'pips will be squeaking'

TheNuthatch · 30/10/2025 08:04

Labraradabrador · 29/10/2025 22:45

It probably is, on balance, but that is pretty damning.

risk/reward on a £900 licence is pretty obvious - no one sensibly would try to evade that on a one off rental. The alternative-chancellor not understanding her legal obligations on her own effort or through guidance- is soooooo much worse than intentionally cutting corners on a marginal expense. If she isn’t able to figure this out she is fundamentally disqualified from eligibility for the chancellorship.

💯
The ethics advisor had decided that an investigation isn't necessary, so he has also concluded that RR is simply incompetent. As you say, that's even more damning.

Reeves, like the rest of them, is in possession of a brass neck. She has no shame nor dignity, as her charge sheet attests:

CV embellishment
Funky expenses
Freebies
Crying at PMQ’s and inventing a fictitious excuse
And the biggest one of all - Barefaced lying.

If I were to concede one point - she may simply be the marionette, in which case, she should at least try to retain some shred of dignity, and step down.

Will she be paying the fine, or is she exempt? Just when you think they can't get any worse, off they go again! I thought sleaze and scandal was going to be a thing of the past in this government?

Nolletimiere · 30/10/2025 08:16

Meanwhile, the Guardian is leading with this non-story.

A woman who booked a flight from London to Oslo but never checked in or travelled has had her child benefit stopped by the UK government. Tax authorities told her their records showed she had emigrated.
Lisa Morris-Almond is one of thousands of people who have had their child benefit frozen as part of a botched crackdown on benefit fraud.

Great to see it focus on the stories that really matter.

She should have stepped down in the Spring imo. The crying incident should have been the end.

These are the grown-ups, apparently.
They've taken sleaze and scandal to a whole new level and they've only been in office for a year.

As Emerald pointed out, Jas Athwal is still an MP ffs. They have no shame.

Ik unfortunately the markets are holding here there. If she looks like she’s out they react. Even if it’s talk of sidelining.

InterestQ · 30/10/2025 08:29

I need to add here (on the license thing) that when the agent emailed to inform me of the need to apply for one, they said they’d do all the paperwork for about £400 plus the fees themselves. So they were incentivised to tell landlords as they would make more money from it.

There’s no way they didn’t tell her.

Absolutely, because (a) the markets dislike uncertainty, of course, and (b) she is considered as ‘moderate’.

I maintain that the sooner they blow up, the better - rather than that than the one thousand cuts, slow death.

Yeah I know. That's partly why Starmer has kept her in position.
I would still have resigned in her shoes, for my own dignity. Its Starmer's mess, let him get on with it.

Yep I thought that too. Just walk and let him clear up the mess.

The 1p 2p tax thread has the usual suspects shouting about only raising taxes for higher earners. The Labour diehards are coming up with with tory broken mainfesto promise to justify keeping Labour in office.
I can see the OP's point though, there should be some sort of lever that the electorate can pull to oust a government that does not uphold it's manisto promises, whatever their colour.

Parsley4321 · 30/10/2025 08:44

God I know what lever I would like 😜😳

Those threads should come with a qualifier i.e. please disclose if the bulk of your ‘earnings’ is via welfare support?

BBC said he wasn’t known to the killer.

Yes. News was updated and I updated my post too (with a further post). Possibly the man and son who he was protecting, knew the killer, possibly he lived with them but unknown (by the public) atm)..

Starmer needs a fall guy for the 'we'll never have to do this again' budget #2.
I wonder what excuses they'll invent next year, and the year after that.
