Labour isn't working - Thread 15

A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Noooo! No spoilers please 🤣🤣
I can't watch it until tomorrow. (Very pleased he's gone though, can't stand him).

Oh sugar sorry, wasn’t thinking! We’re watching live on iPlayer so I assume everyone is as sad as us 😂😂🙈

Good watch still

DancingFerret · 29/10/2025 22:26

The Telegraph article has been up for less than hour (good call, @Nolletimiere, thank you) and there are already over 900 mostly very negative comments - the word "grifter" seems to feature in many of them.

No prizes for guessing the topic of conversation on tomorrow morning's news programmes. Reeves needs to go the way of Rayner and Bell(end) contained in some way until after the Budget.

Upstartled · 29/10/2025 22:26

38thparallel · 29/10/2025 22:17

Another said she'll blame Brexit.

Yes Brexit, or because Boris ate some cake.

Apparently they forgot to account for it when they won an election with a manifesto that promised not to raise taxes on working people, and when Reeves was applying taxes on working people like farmers last year or when forecasting growth at the '24 Autumn Budget 🤷🏼‍♀️

Apparently the only thing it wasn't was her growth killing, inflation rising, employment harming policies of raising minimum wage and hiking employers national insurance at the same time. Yes, it definitely wasn't that.

Wrong thread - this is why I shouldn't post at this time of night - preaching to the choir here.

‘..contained in some way’ 😂😂😂

But honestly, what do you expect from a woman who lies on her c.v and gifted handbags to her colleagues on expenses and have them return the favour?

Edited

She has form doesn't she. Yet someone thought she would make a good Chancellor.

Generally when those posters support Labour the public think the opposite. Tax rises, Rayner, Starmer’s conference speech. All bombs generally but gets hyped on here.

So reading how many on other threads love tax rises it’ll probably go the other way for Labour.

Both - and also blindly clinging on to their faith in their "Dear Leader".

It probably is, on balance, but that is pretty damning.

risk/reward on a £900 licence is pretty obvious - no one sensibly would try to evade that on a one off rental. The alternative-chancellor not understanding her legal obligations on her own effort or through guidance- is soooooo much worse than intentionally cutting corners on a marginal expense. If she isn’t able to figure this out she is fundamentally disqualified from eligibility for the chancellorship.

Nicely put. Her dodgy CV didn't bode well and this might be the nail in her proverbial coffin. It's already being discussed on the BBC news channel.

EmeraldRoulette · 29/10/2025 23:10

I'm afraid the first thing I thought of with RR was the incident with Jas Athwal MP who was found to have properties in a terrible state, as well as not having a licence to rent out properties. He was actually a councillor in the area and was apparently responsible for bringing in the licensing scheme, or at least was on the council when it happened?

He was defended in parliament by none other than... Lucy Powell.

Anyway, I went to get a link to share, and found other stories about him being involved with a children's home care facility wear lots of children have gone missing - it says he's the landlord but I'm not clear how much responsibility he'd have for that.

And also, separately, something about an alleged sexual assault case came up just from searching his name - but it looks like that's being denied and it's not being reported by anyone reputable I don't think.

So if you're curious, probably best to have a look yourself because there's an awful lot out there, couldn't link to it all.

He didn't have to step down as an MP but obviously RR is in a much higher profile role. I suspect she will get the agent to carry the can and try to persuade them to put something in writing to say it was their fault. Just like Angela Rayner. You couldn't make this stuff up.

So I guess the next week will be about whether the agent is prepared to lie for her, then Starmer will defend her, and then after a while public pressure will hopefully force her to go

But I agree with the poster who said she might have expose the whole situation herself in order to get out of delivering the Budget.

It's tiring, everything being so batshit crazy.

Ps. I’m thinking about who the hell is going to present the budget if RR is booted. And further - did she drop this clanger so that she Doesn’t have to present such a shit budget.

Darren Jones. He’s being very obviously lined up to take on Chancellor. He’s writing this budget after all.

CalmShaker · 30/10/2025 01:59

Can't stand this current lot in government.
Anyone know if Lammy got his fishing licence?

Nolletimiere · 30/10/2025 04:00

Keen to see Reeves under some renewed pressure - we know that she struggles with it, given the previous episode of (self-pitying) blubbing.

Reeves’ error is particularly embarrassing for her because she has been a supporter of selective licensing by councils. She praised Leeds city council’s decision to expand its selective landlord licensing policy in the Armley area of her Leeds West and Pudsey constituency just 10 days ago. “While many private landlords operate in the right way, we know that lots of private tenants in Armley face problems with poorly maintained housing,” she said at the time.

That's absolutely shocking. Labour really are the Nasty Party.

So we've had Jas Athwal, with those many failings towards tenants (possibly including vulnerable children); Rushanara Ali, whilst homlessness minister, evicting tenants and relisting at a higher price - the very practice she was writing policy to prevent; and now Reeves cavalierly ignoring licencing requirements.

I couldn't find any equivalent scandals with Conservatibe MPs taking advantage of tenants and failing their responsibility of care to them. Oh, the parallels with behaviour towards to the electorate...

I do agree with @Labraradabrador that Reeves probably did do it by mistake, not on purpose. But - again, the parallels - incompetence and hubris cause harm, not only deliberate wrong-doing. It's why the law does apply even to holier-than-thou Labour MPs, even though they don't seem to believe or accept it.

I think whether this finishes Reeves or not will depend on whether she also failed in any of the landlord responsibilities which licencing is intended to protect tenants from. I do hope journalist's are digging into that.

Upstartled · 30/10/2025 07:11

It's the level of sheer incompetence, isn't it?

I wonder how many landlords have had to pay the fine for not correctly licensing their property and if, oops, was an allowable excuse?

Sadly, I do not see this latest incident causing her demise, particularly coming into the budget, but it surely weakens her.

Starmer, being the nasty little shit he is, will simply throw Reeves under the bus, if the budget turns out to be the disaster most of us think.

Well RR and KS both have approval ratings that are unprecedentedly bad, so I reckon they fall together.

Labour don’t need a ‘wealth tax’ as we’re about to see a series of ‘fair’ measures all targeted at raising taxes on the wealthy - property, cgt, partnerships, c tax whatever else they can find when they’re scrambling around.

an income tax rise would be more honest…
