A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes, they might. It's probably a hell of a lot more satisfying than dealing with discontented constituents driven mad by the party-first, growth-killing, class-baiting, autumn budget concerns.

Yes I was just thinking that, Labour will lash out because they’re doing so badly.

Back now been wrapping Xmas presents before surgery on Tuesday.

Which brings me to surgeries and the mess Wales is in. Privately I started my journey with the Spire in July. Seeing consultant, x-ray, cat scan Etc all took time. Then approved for surgery two months waiting list so three months. I was resigned to waiting.

But this morning DH bumped into a mate his ex wife an absolute cow was referred by the NHS Wales whose waiting times are rising again privately she's had x-ray, scan. Following these. Her waiting time was ten days for surgery.

I'm spitting feathers here. 15k to get one frigging vote. The Senedd are just throwing money at the problem now.

Wow, that’s bananas - can you/will escalate this?

I'd be spitting feathers too. Hope the surgery goes well.

My surgery wouldn't even refer me. The NHS hospital cocked up my x-ray sent a nothing to see here report to my GP. When Spire got my NHS x-ray and said it's been taken from the wrong angle. Both hips actually stage four. My GP was shocked, cussed and said that the Welsh NHS was not fit for purpose.

Really sorry to hear - that’s outrageous.

Genuinely wish you all the best for Tuesday.

Lutonsgirl · 26/10/2025 15:42

@justasking111 all the best for Thursday ..hope it goes well for you💐

Thanks for the new thread @TheNuthatch

TheNuthatch · 26/10/2025 15:59

@justasking111 Sorry to hear that. You must have felt sucker punched when you heard about your dh's mate's wife. I'd be furious too. Welsh Labour should have been the canary in the coal mine.

Try to focus on you and yours, and get through this next few days. Will be thinking of you on Tuesday Flowers.

When I'm on a bit of a downer, like I was this morning, low mood and Cheerios really don't mix!🤣 I think of parts of Starmers winners speech. He says, we have won an historic victory. The public voted for change and we will give them change. Our landmark majority will ensure we bring economic stability, growth yada yada yada. Thing is and this is what cheers me up. They didn't win! The Conservatives lost.😥 Their majority would be tiny if Reform hadn't split the Conservative vote in so many constituencies. I just like to remind myself of that every now and then.
I think we are going to see record numbers of voters turning out at the next election to make sure Labour are sent packing.

Rivalled · 26/10/2025 16:48

The opposition is splintered isn’t it, Labour, the lib dems and tories should all be really worried that we’re seeing the end of the post war consensus here.

Rivalled · 26/10/2025 16:49

Good luck with the surgery @justasking111 yes, I’d be fuming too

Legolava · 26/10/2025 16:52

I am glad to see this thread. I left MN for a really long time. I genuinely found the whole forum quite a hard read. We are a high earning family top 2% of households. Yet I am a teacher.

We are thinking of relocating or my husband dropping hours as the tax take has hit the point it’s not worth it.

Upstartled · 26/10/2025 16:58

Completely off topic, but Jamaica was expecting a run of the mill tropical storm beginning tomorrow but that has escalated quickly and now it looks like a category 5 hurricane. What is worse, is that the forecasts suggest that it is going to be slow moving and there could be up to 50 inches of rain.

It's never had a category 4 or 5 hurricane make landfall before. When a category 4 hurricane skirted it in 2004 it was devastating and required a lot of international aid.

It's kind of cross your fingers and hope it shifts direction territory. Obviously, it's half term, so, hopefully whoever organises such things is ready to deploy whatever emergency resources/ assets to help the stranded if it comes to it.

Legolava · 26/10/2025 17:01

Oh and don’t even get me started on the state of the education system. It’s often believed that public service is in safe hands with Labour. A 4% pay rise is great. Not when you’re in breaking and understaffed schools where teachers are getting abused and attacked daily. But, Ofsted reform, 4% and increased targets should sort it. 👀

That's awful I think I remember seeing the witness footage on Twitter it was quite terrifying. My son was living in Bermuda when one hit, he sent us the footage of that too. We're very lucky not to live in an area like this.

Yes, for sure. It must be really worrying.

A US Military family that we knew from the DC’s primary school were in Guam last year/year before (they had been transferred from their UK posting) when a typhoon hit. They had to shelter in their bathroom for 18 hours and when they were able to leave the house there was no electricity or running water for 3 days.

Is there any suggestion that the lack of accuracy in the initial forecast is related to Trump’s cuts?

TheNuthatch · 26/10/2025 17:23

@Legolava Welcome 😁.
Glad you've found us. Agree with everything you've written. I don't blame anyone for changing their behaviour to reduce exposure. I know I am.

As for education, rant away! Bridget Phillipson is not very popular on this thread. I find the words 'breakfast clubs' particularly triggering 😂.

Crikey. That's worrying. Fingers crossed it changes course and spares Jamaica from the worst.
We really shouldn't moan about UK weather.

Ik there was so much spin pre GE, the policies were better but he didn’t stand much chance. We’ll be taxed more and if jobs go even more it’ll be bad.

38thparallel · 26/10/2025 17:32

You only need to look at the former DDR

The film Lives of Others is a brilliant example of the utter grimness of the DDR. If any posters haven’t already seen it I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the new thread, Nuthatch.
