A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Very tempted to drop it in the Starmer thread but they’ll know soon enough from looking on here

Ooh, you are naughty, but we like you….

CaveMum · 29/10/2025 20:29

You’ve got to question the intelligence of some of this Cabinet. Either

a) they don’t understand the rules, in which case they are unsuited to hold such responsible positions

or

b) they don’t think the rules apply to them

I know The West Wing is not real life, but I take a lot of my political navigation from that show, and surely you’d have an in house team of researchers doing “opposition research” on your own Cabinet to make sure issues like this are identified and addressed before it becomes a major issue?

I think it's both a and b with this shower.

Indeed - “didn’t realise she had to” is the excuse being given.

Rivalled · 29/10/2025 20:32

Well they’ve ignored expert advice from economists many times….she’s clearly not a details person!

I might try that excuse with HMRC. See how far I get.

Another grifter, in the shape of Rayner.

Hopefully Powell will nut her.

Rayner was out so the same could happen.

TheNuthatch · 29/10/2025 20:40

Just reading the comments in the DM.

One asks if she's taken advice from Rayner. Another said she'll blame Brexit 😂.

Doesn't Reeves own quite a few houses? I though she had a fair sized rental portfolio too? There could be more dirt to dig up there.

Hmmmm. We now need a license to let out my flat in London but it is extremely recent. The agent who manages it only emailed about it beginning of September and is applying on my behalf. So if her borough has had it for longer then she’s a fool but if she’s tried to save money by managing it herself then she’s left herself open.

What I WILL say is that I rent my flat to a single woman for approx 2/3 of market rate because she stays and in the main looks after it. I was so lucky to get on the ladder when I did so I try to pay it forward by never raising the rent while a tenant stays. However. The £1000 license cost and the probable NI insistence for landlords (I don’t know if I’ll have to yet as she doesn’t pay more than £12,500 a year so I don’t pay income tax as it’s my only income bar prolific) but maybe - will mean, that if she renews next year I will have to raise the rent by £80 pcm to try to balance the books. And that is solely because of Labour. I can’t afford to absorb the cost and she will have to. If she moves, I’ll charge £500 more a month for a new tenant according to market rate but I’d rather feel altruistic and keep her so she can continue to walk to work and save for a deposit.

I look forward to Rachel Reeves admitting she’s incompetent as a landlord.

InterestQ · 29/10/2025 20:46

“Didn’t realise she had to”. FGS. Maybe the estate agent hates Labour too and missed her off the massive mail shot.

Reeves eyes up 2p rise in income tax

Rachel Reeves is considering a 2p rise in income tax in a move that would breach Labour’s manifesto.

The Telegraph understands that the measure is being explored by the Treasury after Sir Keir Starmer refused on Wednesday to repeat that Labour would not increase income tax, National Insurance or VAT.

Ms Reeves would become the first Chancellor to raise the basic rate of income tax since the 1970s if she made the move at next month’s Budget.

One option being seriously considered is simultaneously cutting National Insurance by 2p and raising income tax by 2p.

This government are so fucking toast if they do it.

AbsentosaurusRex · 29/10/2025 20:54

TheNuthatch · 29/10/2025 19:50

No I don't feel the need at all. This is the same poster who thinks that Reeves is the best Chancellor we've had since Gordon Brown. Enough said 😂😂

Well she may as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb. She's toast, as is Starmer.

Presumably the same one that Rayner and the disgraced housing minister used?
