A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Terrific. Kosovo has just told us it will be happy to take our* deported failed asylum seekers. Presumably we'll pay them for that, they'll point them at the passport forgers and bingo they'll be back in the UK before we've even shut the door behind them.

Meanwhile I'm sure the human rights case that France is not a safe place to be returned to is already in the pipeline.

You couldn't make this stuff up!

Did anyone see the halls with 50+ beds in them where French asylum seekers sleep on the news? Why are ours in hotels and HMOs ?

*the typo was "out" and might have been more accurate!

Rivalled · 23/10/2025 07:45

Have a cocktail for me @twistyizzy you deserve a fantastic holiday!

I was reading about Gamble (proposed gang chair from police background) and his stepping away statement, he does seem like a very decent human being who has done a lot of good child exploitation in general. I wonder that they didn’t sound out survivors about the chair upfront.

we seem to have very little expertise these days…

I suppose there’s a set a thief to catch a thief narrative with reforming social work and police re gangs but if I’d had corrupt police delivering me to gangs I’d never trust them or want to engage with anyone who’s been in the police again.

Nolletimiere · 23/10/2025 07:14

The government is under increasing pressure to gain control of the grooming gangs inquiry after abuse survivors who quit their roles in the process listed conditions for their return.

Top of the demands - published in a joint letter to the home secretary - was the resignation of Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips, who the four women accuse of "betrayal", citing her response to their concerns about the inquiry's scope.
They said Phillips had lost survivors' trust, and that she and candidates to chair the inquiry were unfit for their roles. Her exit would mean the government was "serious about accountability", they added.

Home Office sources insist Phillips has the home secretary's full support.

She has to quit before they return. Growing chaos.

She has to quit before they return. Growing chaos.

Definitely but in play she continues to cause more damage, which is useful to the opposition of course. She should quit out of respect to the survivors but she won’t will she.

I have concluded that many in Labour are just not decent people - they are fundamentally petty, self-serving and incompetent.

EmpressoftheMundane · 23/10/2025 08:33

These threads move quickly! Blink and you miss it!

I agree, Labour were arrogant and foolish to cancel Rawanda on day one.

The more that I consider it, the more I think the conservatives were doing a good job of managing a very difficult situation.

Parsley4321 · 23/10/2025 08:42

They certainly were and at least they were the grownups Sunak and Hunt I miss you

Imdunfer · 23/10/2025 08:46

Wondering where your taxrises are going? Only a Labour Party could announce cutting red tape by the formulation of yet another Quango.

Like I said. Nice little earner for some.

The more she stays the more she makes the inquiry about her.

It's not, and she needs to go.

TheNuthatch · 23/10/2025 08:53

Good morning 😁

This thread is moving fast!

Sunak has been recruited as a Sunday Times business columnist. I'm looking forward to reading that.

I was just reading about the Lancaster House summit, posted upthread by @Nolletimiere. Sam Coates said Starmer did not speak to journalists at all (the other leaders did).

The migrant who crossed twice appears to have funded his second crossing using money given to him on deportation. If true, this means that instead of smashing the gangs, the taxpayer is now funding them.

Meanwhile, with respect to the LLP rumours.

If they are implemented, it will increase my marginal tax rate from the 47% I pay currently, to 54%.

Everything Labour do is anti-growth.

I will not work simply to pay Labour 54% of my earnings - not a fuck.

Upstartled · 23/10/2025 08:59

Yes, what a bloody coward he is, hiding inside the summit so he didn't have to answer questions about boomerang one in, one out illegal immigrants or the disgraceful treatment of the grooming gang victims by his party.

I don't listen to podcasts very often now but I listened to the daily t while driving this morning and it did a great job of covering the grooming gang chaos over the last few days, plus the shameful booing of Labour at pmqs when Kemi talked about the concerns of the survivors. Worth a listen if you can't stomach the mooing and braying at pmqs at source.

He definitely did a runner - the cowardly tosser.

This government are rotten (and rotting) from the inside out - it’s just a pity they can’t do so without impacting so many of us.

Upstartled · 23/10/2025 09:02

Good to see Storm Benjamin isn't going to give the Caerphilly region much bother today.

What a shambles this lot are in comparison. I also agree with @Nolletimiereon mean, petty and self serving.

upseedaisee · 23/10/2025 09:06

Let's face it, Starmer has form for aviding a difficult situation. The Welsh Farmers, Farmers in Buckinghamshire and now this. He's a bloody coward!

And as demonstrated so very clearly, just not that bright. A terrible combination.

As an aside, I saw something written on GB News first thing. Commenting about the victimisation of a Jewish Lecturer, someone wrote...."How can we live in 1984, 1939 and 2025 simultaneously?"
It absolutely bang on.

I think I saw that same thing in the Telegraph.

It's just dreadful. These activist thugs who go around threatening to kill people need to be treated for the terrorising bastards that they are, not as wayward, misguided children.

I watched throughout and it was appalling. Kemi was reading the question and she was being barracked by the opposition. It shows them as a bunch of stupid, vacuousand venomous lot who just don't care about the people they are there to serve.
