A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Oh Kemi is on form today! Tatties roasting nicely mr Starmer?

Yes, she was strong today. I'm glad she drilled down on this scandal with each question and didn't go for for a broadband approach again. Jess Phillips has been dreadful in advocating for these victims and as a pp said yesterday, (I can't remember if that was you upseedaisee?), that this incompetence and policial cowardice cannot be negated by rattling off the names of killed women as a policial shield.

Upstartled · 22/10/2025 12:22

CaveMum · 22/10/2025 12:20

Starmer has full confidence in Jess Philips, she’s a gonner then!

🤞🏼

Yes, how can we have a safeguarding minister whose only objective it to safeguard her seat?

I’ve not said they are hard done by. I’m simply saying the benefits system as a whole doesn’t work - specifically referring to the amount of PIP applicants and re-applicants who have to go down the mandatory reconsideration route and are then awarded. That this is never talked about yet fraud rates always come up in conversations of this nature. Often assessments have been inaccurate, silly mistakes made. Assessors who have no idea about conditions. Maybe a physio assessing someone with a complex genetic disorder as an example…This causes years of stress and is detrimental to their health and wellbeing. I’m pointing out the system is letting them down. Yet many people don’t talk or know about this.

Claimants asking for MR means that they are not happy with a decision they were given, not that the decision was wrong.

One thing I agree with you as that the benefit system does not work. It's bloated, and it rewards the wrong values.

upseedaisee · 22/10/2025 12:33

Well, I have to say, if I was one of the Pakistani rape gang survivors, I would be incandescent with rage after hearing the non committal and evasive answers given By Starmer to Kemi Badenoch's questions today. He failed to answer the question that Kemi gave to one of the survivors a number of times. It's all very well doing this to a minister, but to do it to a woman who has been through everying these ladies have only to have a non answer given. It's disgusting. I really do hope this shower of shite implode very soon.

A lot is made on MN about how many people finally win PIP at tribunal but apparently often just granted to get rid of the case as there’s such a backlog.

apples24 · 22/10/2025 12:35

Why do we think the inquiry is failing so badly and evasiva language is being used? Does this go back to fears of loosing more seats to radical independents in certain constituencies?

AbsentosaurusRex · 22/10/2025 12:35

The fact is, millions of people in this country are currently ‘better off’ on benefits (including housing etc), than working.

Now that is a bonfire waiting to happen. Oh look here we are it’s happening. And we’ve got Labour to fan the flames.

Laughable. If we didn’t have to keep paying for it.

Upstartled · 22/10/2025 12:36

Jesus, that is heartbreaking.

AbsentosaurusRex · 22/10/2025 12:37

🤯🤯🤯🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Jess Phillips should be sacked.

The way I see it, it has nothing to do with who would gain the seat and everything to do with Labour being scared of losing the seat. The Muslim vote in a large number of key constituencies, Jess Phillips's in particular is the majority and historically, muslims have voted Labour. I don't know why. Therefore it is in Labour's interests to water down the scope and evade certain language in the inquiry by not calling it what it is. A Pakistani rape gang inquiry. I'd be surprised if you could find a single Labour MP who has used the correct term.

TheNuthatch · 22/10/2025 12:53

I'm so glad Kemi gave her a voice at PMQs today. My heart goes out to them.

Jess Phillips should be sacked so of course she won't be.
Another 1 promoted way above her capability.
Labour are too mired in the grooming gangs to properly investigate them. For many reasons.

AbsentosaurusRex · 22/10/2025 13:04

An informative article linked here, from FWR

‘Indeed, Casey says that grooming gangs are still operating. And as the inquiry gets underway, officials are bound to obfuscate the true extent of the cover-up — because the truth will be too damaging to contemplate.’

Nolletimiere · 22/10/2025 13:09

Labour are petty and small-minded, as are many of their last remaining fans on MN - evidently.

TheNuthatch · 22/10/2025 10:10

Welcome 😁
My constituency is a Labour stronghold, so I will vote for whomever has the best chance of beating them here. Labour have held this seat since the dinosaurs roamed. Next election I will probably vote for Reform as they are projected to beat Labour here. I'm a tory, but it's a wasted vote here.
Who are you thinking of voting for in May? Is your constituency a toss up between SNP and Reform?

Lol since dinosaurs roamed 😂😂 would love to see that fall to Reform

Thanks for the link.
I was quite taken aback by Starmer's continual reference to this in the past tense. Its still happening, probably in every town and city.

Agreed. Like I said, Labour are mired in it. They don't want the truth to come out

Of course they don't, especially when they're in office.

More in Common poll out
Reform 31 (+1)
Labour 22 (-)
Conservative 19 (-1)
LibDem 13 (-2)
Green 10 (+1)

Luke Tryl highlighting that this week marks Starmer's anniversary of being the most unpopular leader of all among the current parties.
