A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

But the other thread says it fine 🙄

Until it's a BESS on fire next to their house 😂

😂😂

I wonder if people on here who would like to relocate know who bad things are in Europe at present. incredibly we are relatively calm. Has anyone seen what happened at Florence Airport last night . The firebombing of a restaurant in Berne the anarchy around every Italian city every single night.

We are not planning to relocate to Europe @redange . Or Dubai or anywhere like that. Plenty more locations about the world.

Whenever these threads come up people make assumptions about mobility. There was another thread where the poster never said they wished to go to Dubai and were castigated roundly .... for apparently wanting to go to Dubai.

Upstartled · 19/10/2025 12:26

Are people talking a lot about relocating - on this thread in particular?

If we move, it'll be to NZ or Australia. At least those are the countries we could move to confidently without worrying about eligibility or visas. I'm not currently sold on the idea but I'm a hell of a lot closer to it than I was 18 months ago.

marshmallowmix · 19/10/2025 13:09

TheNuthatch · 19/10/2025 11:11

Agree. Its about fairness, particularly when many people are really struggling to get by whilst working their arses off.
If Labour or Reform lift the 2 child cap, there will be some eye-watering amounts claimed. I can see the headlines already.

I don’t think they should lift the cap that is a big mistake to do so.

TheNuthatch · 19/10/2025 13:16

I've been catching up with Political Currency this morning.
Ed Balls seems convinced that the China spy case furore is a deliberate dead cat. He said this was discussed in parliament back in Septemeber without causing a stir. He thinks this topic has been deliberately resurrected by No10 to distract parliamentary scrutiny away from Mandelson, which was the hot topic before recess.

I'm so sorry, it's horrendous, isn't it? Up here we're dealing with the Beauly to Spittal super-pylon line that's going to cause up to five years of major disruption and leave us with the giant eyesore pylons. Yet somehow we'll stilll pay through the nose for electricity. No upsides at all, and the downsides are vast.

Sorry, this is a Labour thread, not SNP, but we're where England will be in 5/10 years time on that front and it's not good. It's all European companies, Chinese investors and imported workers as well so the "jobs and investment" is bullshit too.

We're in Wales we've been labours lab rats for two decades. Speed camera plans everywhere was one plan. Then they dreamt up 20mph. Very hard to stick to with many engines but they're catching huge numbers of English and fining them.

Wind farms started here years ago offshore. Solar panels, heat pumps to be made the norm

A new national park 1 million trees to be planted up the mountains. The mountains that sheep are no longer going to be able to use. A farmer dh knows in Powys was approached to dig up the mountain lay roads of hardcore for access to plant and manage the trees. The farmers told them to fuck off until they dumped the inheritance tax.

Now listen keep an eye on the Welsh government on social media Englanders this is your future .

A valid point, but, aside from Milan for tax reasons, and parts of Switzerland, I do not see Europe as a valid relocation option.

Even Italy is contemplating raising the tax lump sum amount to EUR 300k, and Canton Vaud in Switzerland is discussing the treatment of CGT.

What is unique to the UK, however, is the incompetence and ideological spite of its LW Government, and its out of control welfare budget.

justasking111 · 19/10/2025 13:39

I've just watched the Bern restaurant arson attack on Instagram. The staff were stuck inside on the first floor in a wooden building. Thank god the police had water cannons or 18 staff would have been burned alive. Only gb news reported it can't find any coverage bar on Instagram.

Do we have a news blackout do you think ❓

Rivalled · 19/10/2025 14:02

@SpaceRaccoon totally agree, see also snp and education, labour loving the look of the cost savings of those inclusion policies and restricting EHCPs….and I’d place a small bet that Labour increase stamp duty on homes over £500k to get at that ‘unearned wealth’ because it’s easy to do and looks progressive.

the snp are the experts in the cheap and easy ways to look progressive

Indeed, and Welsh Labour as @justasking111 said.

And to make things worse 'Hamas' in the last two hours has j broken the Ceasefire and has just issued a statement saying no intention of giving up their arms.

redange · 19/10/2025 14:13

I think the Florence Airport incident is linked to Antifia and a number of left wing groups using any cause from Gaza to loss of jobs. Capitalism Meloni's Government Etc to instigate carnage.

Not a chance I’d go to Aus to live. Lovely country beautiful places, healthy living. But it’s quite racist and very very sexist (as well as minimal culture). The fact they’ve ruled that men can be women, means that actually, women as a sex cease to exist / have their own rights in Aus. Tickle v Giggle. I loved Sydney but only to visit now.

NZ possibly it’s stunningly beautiful, but just too far away. When we were there for a while, it really felt we’d lost our connection to home and family, and Europe. Also, very basic. Not much culture and not easy to hop on a plane to anywhere close by.

As a rule I think we’re lucky to live in the UK. It’s got everything. A shame Labour are trying to ruin it atm, but we’ll recover. Eventually.

Support for Reform UK among British Indians has tripled since the election, according to polling from a diaspora group that shows Nigel Farage’s party is proving successful among immigrant groups.

Research by the 1928 Institute, a group of Oxford academics who analyse the British Indian community, shows backing for Reform has jumped in the past year from 4% to 13%.

The findings, which are being released to coincide with Diwali, show support for Farage’s party among Britain’s largest ethnic minority community remains well below the national level.

But the increase since the election is far higher than the national average, showing that Reform is building momentum in communities where it has traditionally struggled.

Thankfully voters are waking up to the damage from Labour there. I’m so pleased they’ll lose massive amount of support.

Nolletimiere · 19/10/2025 14:48

Rank Labour hypocrisy in action….

Labour-run councils in England have used a legal loophole to issue almost 200 households with no-fault eviction notices since the party was elected on a promise to ban the practice, a Guardian investigation has found.

Scrapping these orders, known as section 21 evictions, was one of Keir Starmer’s main pledges before last July’s general election but, more than a year later, they remain lawful.

Local authorities cannot normally carry out no-fault evictions. These are permitted if renters have an assured shorthold tenancy, a type of rental agreement offered by private landlords.

However, some councils have been able to sidestep this through arm’s length companies set up to manage their housing stock.

Very basic 🤣 I'd have led with the scary as fuck earthquakes but I think I'd be okay on that front - and half our wider family is there so we wouldn't be isolated.

Tony the Tory?!

New Labour was never true Labour though, was it? They'd never have got in without a move towards the centre.
