A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Tony the Tory?!

New Labour was never true Labour though, was it? They'd never have got in without a move towards the centre.

Tbf, this government got in by signalling centre but then picked up their majority and went on an anti-business parade, with a side hustle in privilege hunting.

EasternStandard · 19/10/2025 18:11

I’m not sure they got in with much. A toolmaker, a private school hit, ‘change’ and most annoyed at the last gov.

That anti growth sentiment was there though in their messaging. You could tell it was going to happen.

Blair.. well it will annoy me if everyone Labour suddenly says of yeh he’s right. But Starmer probably won’t switch.

Upstartled · 19/10/2025 18:36

Don't forget the economist chancellor though! Pulling all the right financial levers to deliver growth. 🤣🤣

They can’t do Blair’s tax recommendations and do the ‘broadest shoulders’ nonsense.

Not sure how they just deny asylum but would have to read up on that recommendation

I was going to say this. I don’t think Starmer said or did all that much in the run up to the election - it was a vote against the Tories.

I expect that Starmer and Blair can’t stand each other.

I do wonder if Blair mooting lower taxes is a tactic to undermine Labour backbench confidence in KS and Reeves; their extreme ideology is toxic and destructive. A blind man and his dog can see the current regime is malicious and intent on destroying our way of life (whilst feathering their own nests, of course).

Blair isn't my favourite by a long shot, but I believe he's far more astute than the Dementors currently in charge, recognises the damage they've already done and is working behind the scenes to orchestrate a change of leadership for Labour.

Agree with you.

Blair, for all his documented faults, is clearly a pragmatist and a follower of realpolitik - he sees the writing on the wall, and may even be placing country before party.

I agree with you too although the swing for the majority of Labour MPs could prove too great. From ‘broadest shoulders’ to tax cuts for upper end and the asylum stuff.

They may as well leave and let someone else do that stuff.

Agree. I hate Blair as much as I hate Starmer, possibly more 🤔, not sure, its probably even-stevens. But he has more political nous in the tip of his pinky, than Starmer has in his whole body.

Perhaps he has a puppet protege waiting in the wings ready to take over after Starmer.
Labour can't possible contemplate keeping Starmer and Reeves can they? They would be mad to fight the next election with those two at the helm.

I think I've kind of sunk to the level of exasperation with it all, that it just seems kind of funny the government is so dreadful that they are regularly being told off by the old guard now. Like watching someone getting a dressing down from their Mam.

I think the problem would be if those two look like they’re leaving MPs get all spend happy and the markets go nuts.

The MPs won’t back a higher tax cutting person, they would back someone more left.

EasternStandard · 19/10/2025 20:22

Btw I agree on Blair and he seems to have turned physically into his politics, he looks like Mr Burns in pics and Starmer has morphed into a bollard.

Yeah. We saw the market reaction to the possibility of a further-left Chancellor when Reeves was crying didn't we. (I still can't believe we've had a Chancellor crying in the house 🤯).

I hope they both stay in No.10 and No.11. Defeat is inevitable and that's fine by me. I just wish I could make time move faster to get it over with.

I can't take her seriously at all after that. I doubt she's even writing the budget this time, it's probably Torsten Bellend making all the decisions.

Which is worrying given some of his more extreme policies, including a 53% CGT on property etc.

Yep. Let's hope they have him on a short leash.

He's right up Starmer's street though - arrogant, up his own arse, and most importantly - male.
