A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I bought some of these from a craft fair a couple of years ago. Very cute. Xmas scenes in a walnut shell. Bijou. Walnart.

Everything on MN is random and that's what makes it so fun ,like real life conversations that drift anywhere .

@twistyizzy Yes to the nutcrackers.

@Barbadossunset Sorry to hear of your naughty parrot attacking baubles. The image of a parrot having a fight with a christmas fairy is hilarious though, although I'm sure I wouldn't be laughing if it was my fairy 😂

@Absentosaur I love those. They are my cup of tea, especially the robin 😊.

I love the felt animals from JL. My tree is full of felt mice, badgers and foxes. I really need a new tree topper this year. Any suggestions welcome.

I assumed that your pp was barbed,.and aimed at me. I apologise if that's not the case.
These threads are often tangential. I like that though, it's nice to lighten the mood sometimes.

That's okay. Got me to clear my cookies 😁

Those are lovely, absentour.

@TheNuthatch the fairy was securely fixed so the parrot lost that battle. She also enjoys wrestling with and shredding wrapping paper but that’s harmless enough!

Half the threads already ordered their Christmas food deliveries. So we can strike that one 🤣🤣

Octavious · 07/10/2025 22:24

Well I can't deny I have an eye cocked on it. One year i wanted organic and it was a year of low ducks

Actually, I wondered if this was a good place to ask

What's the best place to find out about protests in London? I got caught up in one at Tower Bridge a few weeks ago. I think it was a flash protest though.

When I say "caught up", I had to go near them otherwise I would've been drastically late for my meeting. As it was, I spent the first 20 minutes in the bathroom trying to cough up the contents of whatever is in those flares. Sorry for the detail. The people I was with were quite worried. I think I was just really unlucky with the direction of airflow, etc

I've got two people that I'm supposed to meeting as well as work stuff and I really don't want to go into central London. But it is the midpoint so I can't avoid it.

I hate going into London now at the best of times but with a protest kicking off every five minutes, it's even worse. I was amazed how many people they had for a short notice, flash protest on a weekday. In reality, it's not a flash protest. They have known they were going to be doing it for ages. But no one else is gonna have known.

So yeah, I just wondered if any other people have this problem and where you get your information. Thanks.

Google Palestine protests and organisations put up lists and maps online

In terms of other protests most organisations do the same

No idea if local councils list them

EmeraldRoulette · 07/10/2025 22:36

@DrPrunesqualer I must admit I was hoping for an easy list

The Met police should really keep one online and updated! Or maybe even TFL at this rate.

There may be others

Thanks @DrPrunesqualer

they didn't close anything the day I was there, I think it was just really unlucky

When I arrived for my meeting, nobody knew what it was. I actually thought it was a different group because of other things that were going on. I heard them before I saw them. Grr.

anyway, as you were. Christmas decorations and felt animals abound!

CaveMum · 07/10/2025 23:35

twistyizzy · 07/10/2025 16:35

Hope your Dad is OK

He’s “ok” thanks. A multitude of health issues, none bad enough to finish him off (if you pardon the expression) but combined enough to make his life very difficult. I was giving my mum some respite so she could have a few days away with her sister.

Loving the Christmas ornament chat, our local garden centre is lethal for this - they always have 4 themes on display and available to buy and these change every year. We have a very eclectic collection varying from the traditional to the, erm, modern - think sparkly gold giraffes mixed with Christmas pudding baubles, neon unicorns and fluffy squirrels 🤣

Parsley4321 · 07/10/2025 23:37

Bloody hell why did I look at Alessi !!! I want the crib one 🤦‍♀️but how can I afford even a bloody twig after the wisdom tooth hijack
what are people supposed to do who don’t have £600 anywhere 🤦‍♀️

strawberrybubblegum · 08/10/2025 05:58

DrPrunesqualer · 07/10/2025 19:47

Yes.
Pre arranged
Im shocked they got permission

( I should have clarified re the free speech etc as it’s been an issue since PA designation as a terrorist organisation, then the Manchester attacks and MPs calling for demos to be called off, lack of Starmer et all reaction to the mosque fire , throw in the ID proposals and we have a seething pit of anger )

Edited

Re the free speech: there's always a 'reason' for anti-semitism. Except it's never actually the reason.

A couple of things come to mind.

If you live near a dental teaching hospital and are prepared to wait, you can get seen for free.
There is also a little known (as in kept bloody secret) nhs community dental service. Here they will provide urgent emergency care.Like a lot of things to do with the NHS though, you need to know about it.

Morning - gutted I missed more tree chat! Don’t know what’s wrong with me this week keep zonking out.

i’m not the only one who is bracing for tax rises and spending less than usual…added to the food inflation that’ll be having an effect.

Yes, everyone is in limbo second guessing the budget and tightening the purse strings in anticipation. The net result of that = less economic activity.
Fucking bunch of morons, they must be following "how to stall the economy for dummies".

I was caught up in one on Regent Street.

Zara was extra busy with customers sheltering from the demo.

How can anyone on here support it and them? It’s bizarre.

We all said the exact same thing about the Tories. We, as a country, will never have a decent government. Ever. Our country is absolutely ruined and I cannot WAIT to get out of it.
