A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Apparently the number of brick deliveries fell by 20% between July and August. Housebuilding is grinding down to a snail's pace waiting for this government to kick into gear and for Reeves to deliver this tardy Autumn budget while she plays a game of chicken with the bond traders.

EasternStandard · 07/10/2025 18:20

Plus 12 threads some chat, it used to be post and be annihilated as all Labour on mn. Tg for you all!

twistyizzy · 07/10/2025 18:26

7 bi-elections this week so will test the polling figures however based on the pattern so far would expect Reform to take at least 4-5

Oh no 😂 Yes, a real tree is a liability.

Apparently the woman who was cutting the ribbons today was an Art Council funded PhD student who is writing a thesis on haunting and the supernatural in Palestinian territories.

I'm just going to leave that there without comment 😗

🙄🙄🙄

My eyes hurt from rolling so much!

I like a bit of side chat to keep things jolly. It seems to roll along uneventfully between the politics.

And lord knows we can do with a laugh now and then.

Same. We’re a real tree family. I have coveted baubles and woe betide if any smash.

coveted Baubles here too. From our parents. Every time we put the tree up it brings back memories of my parents.

Plus some ridiculously expensive Alessi ones I have bought in a Christmas moment of madness and extravagance

Favourites though are the ones the kids made when they were little ahh.

I love Christmas 🥳

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2025 18:54

I have some Alessi ones too, @DrPrunesqualer. Bought half price in the JL sale! I love their little boxes!

We have fake trees (three of them!). I don't mind them, but we never had real trees as kids, so no nostalgia over such things.

I imagine we may also have a dog pissing issue if we got a real one too! 🙈🤣

We have ones from my grandparents, hand made glass baubles which no-one but me is allowed to touch. We then have some from my parents and we have a tradition of buying 1 new one each every Xmas

I love Christmas 🎄 ♥️

A pre arranged demo

More people will be out because Labour are trying to shut down free speech and demonstrations. I think if Starmer et all had kept quiet it wouldn’t have been so big.

I wonder too if more are out demonstrating after the stories of abuse from the released flotilla participants.

There’s one on the 11th too ( in London ) which I understand will be quite big

Hopefully an agreement and peace will come very soon

That's so lovely. I love all things traditional at Xmas. I don't have any heirloom baubles, but we've made our own collection over the years. Lots of memories.
Will look out for the Alessi baubles mentioned upthread next time I'm in JL.

Alessi website has the full range I think
although nothings that reduced in price at the moment ( I did spot a 10% discount tho).

Ps Alessi is an investment and not just for Christmas 😁

I covet a pair of nutcracker soldiers for each mantlepiece but I just can't ever justify the cost when it comes to it.

Pre-arranged for the anniversary of Hamas' genocidal murder / rape/ murder-whilst-raping terror spree which started the war. Planned for the anniversary to show support for the atrocity and in order to cause maximum pain to British Jews.

That it was planned doesn’t make it better.

Labour self-evidently didn’t try to shut down free speech, since the demonstration went ahead. With no fear of any kind of government action against demonstrators, in stark contrast to what they would have faced from the murderous Hamas government, who do routinely murder anyone who speak out against them.

He just asked the protestors to show a bit of compassion and humanity towards fellow-Brits who are a different religion to them.

But that religion is Judaism, so no luck getting those anti-semitic dickwads to show any decency.

Yes.
Pre arranged
Im shocked they got permission

( I should have clarified re the free speech etc as it’s been an issue since PA designation as a terrorist organisation, then the Manchester attacks and MPs calling for demos to be called off, lack of Starmer et all reaction to the mosque fire , throw in the ID proposals and we have a seething pit of anger )

I don’t want my tax dollars funding someone who has committed a hate crime. I really do object.

We have got some old ones too, including some Chinese ones which dh had as a child in Hong Kong.
However the parrot likes targeting them and she has broken a couple in the past which is really annoying. She also had a fight with the fairy on top of the tree.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/10/2025 20:12

Actually, I wondered if this was a good place to ask

What's the best place to find out about protests in London? I got caught up in one at Tower Bridge a few weeks ago. I think it was a flash protest though.

When I say "caught up", I had to go near them otherwise I would've been drastically late for my meeting. As it was, I spent the first 20 minutes in the bathroom trying to cough up the contents of whatever is in those flares. Sorry for the detail. The people I was with were quite worried. I think I was just really unlucky with the direction of airflow, etc

I've got two people that I'm supposed to meeting as well as work stuff and I really don't want to go into central London. But it is the midpoint so I can't avoid it.

I hate going into London now at the best of times but with a protest kicking off every five minutes, it's even worse. I was amazed how many people they had for a short notice, flash protest on a weekday. In reality, it's not a flash protest. They have known they were going to be doing it for ages. But no one else is gonna have known.

So yeah, I just wondered if any other people have this problem and where you get your information. Thanks.
