So the season of named storms is upon us, with Amy being the first.
What are the conditions currently like where you are?

Here in the south east, the rain is gradually getting heavier but no hint of the predicted winds yet.

I hope all the MNs in Scotland and NI are safe and sound.

South East - very mild temperature and it is wet and windy but not storm-like.

We are due to get a train into London tomorrow for something we’ve got tickets for. 🤞 🚊 💨

Hope everyone who’s more in the thick of it is ok.

Hollyhobbi · 03/10/2025 22:22

58 flights cancelled at Dublin airport and some in Cork too I believe.

Moominmoko · 03/10/2025 22:26

My house is shaking quite alarmingly (NE Scotland on the coast). I don't think it's worse than Floris but it always feels scarier when it's windy at night time to me. Lots of trees down in the area according to Facebook.

I’ve just been hit by a tree driving home from work! No damage luckily apart from a few marks but I did have a twig wedged in my window seal 😬

Stay safe everyone.

I have just got home (Surrey/London borders) and the roads are full of tree debris and it is still blowing a hoodie outside.

I was walking in south London earlier and there was one spot where we could hardly stand. But a few metres further on it was fine. It was the same at that spot walking back to the station a few hours later. Very odd.

DemBonesDemBones · 03/10/2025 22:58

Scottish Borders. So windy the dog did a poo and it BLEW AWAY! Much hilarity in our house.

ItIsReallyFine · 03/10/2025 22:59

Windy in East Anglia. Sort of middling rain for much of the day.. Not heavy but not drizzle either.

Wineandrun · 03/10/2025 23:00

My flight to Inverness was cancelled tonight. Hopefully I’ll get home tomorrow!

Judellie · 03/10/2025 23:04

It rained most of today so I brought hte washing in this evening. Ironically when I went to pick up DD from her supermarket job at 9.30, it wasn't raining, it was just getting windier so the washing would probably have got drier if I had left it out (to get darked on!). North east England

TootSweeties · 03/10/2025 23:06

I’m in the Scottish Borders (yellow warning). Was due to make a four hour round trip to Glasgow today (Amber warning) and decided against it as the storm was due to kick in on my road home. Glad I did as it’s blowin’ a hoolie, trees have come down and buildings have collapsed.

Definitely made the right choice besides my now ex making light of the situation this morning. My daughter burst into tears first thing as we got caught in the last storm…worst conditions I’ve ever driven in with my two kids…and begged me not to go.

Poor thing thought we were going to be swept away during Storm Floris. So no risk taking here!

TootSweeties · 03/10/2025 23:09

Should clarify he was my ex before this morning. I didn’t end it over Amy.

This is a screenshot of it right now... Right over the UK, and it looks like another one is coming in from the west. 😱

The one to the west of us is the remains of that hurricane.

Ah ha, thank you @PickAChew Smile Still a way to go yet before it's over then!

Sparkleandshiney · 03/10/2025 23:28

Wild. I am trying to sleep but keep jumping at noises outside and thinking about the horse (not ours) in a nearby field hoping it's ok. Both kids having a friend sleepover and finally asleep. Wind very wild. We're about 5 minutes drive from Burghead

PocketsAndSedition · 03/10/2025 23:28

No17CherryTreeLane · 03/10/2025 22:00

@PocketsAndSedition oh my goodness, how long is your flight?
Rest assured they would not go ahead with it unless all the checks have been observed and deemed safe.

We made it! More than a bit bumpy but pilot and crew were fab 🙂

ViciousCurrentBun · 03/10/2025 23:29

I was in North Wales this morning in my Motorhome on a campsite, the wind was shocking and rain torrential when we left at midday the river that ran through the campsite looked in danger of bursting its banks.

Evenstar · 03/10/2025 23:36

We are North West very wet and windy all day, then there was a lull in the wind and a strange orange light before it ramped up again. Very noisy outside, DS had to drive to the Midlands to collect his girlfriend as her flight back to Scotland was cancelled and then all the trains were cancelled and nothing at all running north of Preston as the lines are flooded. Their friend is stuck at Gatwick tonight as her flight to Inverness was cancelled.

MouldyCandy · 03/10/2025 23:50

Just another recommendation for a wind watching website. Wind Alert
Very gusty where I am in South Central Scotland.

WindAlert

Don't miss a day on the water or in the air! WindAlert makes it easy for you to find the wind and weather data you're after no matter where you are.

South west - just wet today and a little windy but not extreme! Will cancel plans for a sea swim this weekend!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/10/2025 23:57

BlackeyedSusan · 03/10/2025 22:19

Windy West Midlands.

Lots of rain most of the day. Got very blustery now though. Quite loud. Fearing for "our" trees.

West Midlands too. DS was on a flight out of Birmingham around 8 PM and it seemed that the wind calmed down for an hour around the time of his flight. Definitely blowy again now and it’s unsettling the dog.

Greenladybugs · 03/10/2025 23:59

I’m convinced my roof is going to blow off. This house doesn’t feel very sturdy and so when we get a storm like this I do worry.

Trees down left right and centre around here and a hell of a lot of rain.

Tarkan · 04/10/2025 02:00

DH is a bus driver, currently in Edinburgh with one last run from there to Dundee to do. He has to go over the Queensferry crossing (currently only closed to double deckers, he drives a coach which isn’t far off the same height 🙈) so there’s no way I’ll be able to sleep until he’s home safe (he has a 15 mile drive home once he finishes his shift too).

It’s really gusty here. We had to bring our glass recycling box inside as it was trying to make a break for it and we’ve tied the bins to our wall with bungee cords. A neighbouring house has a broken meter box door so all I can hear is that banging back and forward constantly so I doubt I would be sleeping even if DH was here with me anyway.

KitchenTrollyDolly · 04/10/2025 02:07

Very windy here in Central Scotland. Watching failed landing attempts at Glasgow Airport on Flightradar24

GrandTheftWalrus · 04/10/2025 02:16

It's now just annoying me. My dh is in a cabin right now and his highest recorded gust was 91mph.
