Storm Amy

So the season of named storms is upon us, with Amy being the first.
What are the conditions currently like where you are?

Here in the south east, the rain is gradually getting heavier but no hint of the predicted winds yet.

I hope all the MNs in Scotland and NI are safe and sound.

I'm on the west coast of Ireland and I think the worst has passed. It was grand, windy but I was still able to bring the dogs out. I think storm Eowyn is still fresh in my mind so everything seems mild compared to that. Praying we don't have a repeat of that this year.

SpaceRaccoon · 03/10/2025 20:58

@Chipsahoy I'm also far NE Scotland, rural and exposed.

It's worsening now after a weirdly quiet evening till about 7.30 or so. I lost some tiles to Floris so hoping for no repeat. Power is still on for now.

BansheeOfTheSouth · 03/10/2025 21:10

SW coast Scotland
Started getting really wild early afternoon.

The sea has relocated itself to some roads. Flooding well underway in the usual places. Rural diversion alerts now in place.
Bin collection wasn't cancelled so while people were at work, several bins played on the streets. Ferries all cancelled and trains aren't running.

Think January's storm took out all the trees though.

Scottish Highlands here. It’s really wild at the moment, although strangely dry. Ds3 said he could feel the wind coming through the keyhole with the key in place. This last hour there has been a lot of thumping and banging but I can’t currently see anything untoward.

edited for spelling mistake

MiddleAgedDread · 03/10/2025 21:22

It was wet all afternoon but not so bad joe. Very windy though. Cat is hiding in a cupboard!!

No17CherryTreeLane · 03/10/2025 21:26

The wind is definitely coming from the west.
We have windows on all 4 sides of the house, and the kitchen's ones face west and the wind is whooshing through and blowing everything everywhere (opened because we cooked fish 😳)
Maybe that's why it's so mild?

Things sound very scary on here, I hope you are all safe and sound.

@BoarBrush that is terrifying! I'm glad to hear everyone is OK.

Fairly windy here in SW Cornwall, but nothing unusual. It’s mizzling and remarkably warm. Going to a wedding tomorrow 😬

potato08 · 03/10/2025 20:18

Yep.
Really wasn't expecting it

Really? I'm in E Mids and had some rain and a bit blowy but nothing to be alarmed at

Babblingbooks · 03/10/2025 21:48

It’s been pouring with rain since sometime mid morning and the wind picked up around the back of three in my bit of central Scotland .
Blow the bins over kind of wind so not too worrying but not for going out in

feellikeanalien · 03/10/2025 21:49

Pretty windy here in Northumberland. Rain has stopped and it is quite mild. Lights are flickering and have gone off once but it doesn't take much where we are.

CoastalCalm · 03/10/2025 15:42

Yep it is lashing down with rain in Northumberland , planned grocery trip is not happening …. Did somebody say Just Eat

But it's ok for the just eat driver to drive out to you to deliver it...

PocketsAndSedition · 03/10/2025 21:54

Waiting to board my flight to Glasgow and I'm quietly bricking it 😬

If you read on, they just had a sandwich 🙄

OMG the windspeed is about 45-50mph now (north mids) and set to get worse during the night. My internet keeps dipping in and out. Was off from 9.10pm-ish til 5 minutes ago! Not raining weirdly, but very windy, and warm (16 degrees C - at 10pm! In October!!!)

No17CherryTreeLane · 03/10/2025 22:00

@PocketsAndSedition oh my goodness, how long is your flight?
Rest assured they would not go ahead with it unless all the checks have been observed and deemed safe.

Co Durham sounds very windy.

Got an open day at Salford Uni tomorrow. 2 hour drive down the A1 and across the M62, can't say I'm looking forward to it. Kind of want to cancel, but kind of don't want to upset DD1

RandomMess · 03/10/2025 22:15

It’s horrendous here in the northern part of the NW England .

The poor man in Co. Donegal has died from his injuries. May he R.I.P.

toooldforbrat · 03/10/2025 22:18

I flew into NI yesterday on a small regional jet , 2 attempts to land . 🤢🤢

BlackeyedSusan · 03/10/2025 22:19

Windy West Midlands.

Lots of rain most of the day. Got very blustery now though. Quite loud. Fearing for "our" trees.

NessShaness · 03/10/2025 22:21

East Mids, very wet and windy most of the day and the wind seems to be really picking up now.

I love lying in bed listening to it.
