Storm Amy

So the season of named storms is upon us, with Amy being the first.
What are the conditions currently like where you are?

Here in the south east, the rain is gradually getting heavier but no hint of the predicted winds yet.

I hope all the MNs in Scotland and NI are safe and sound.

In a campervan in keswick. Very heavy rain and the van is wobbling a fair bit. I've only come because tomorrow is mean to be dry and windy so I can do tourist attractions if not hill walking.

PegDope · 03/10/2025 16:35

“I hope all the MNs in Scotland and NI are safe and sound.”

But those in Wales and the Republic of Ireland can get blown to Oz?

It’s really gusty here in Dublin. Flight Radar is an interesting watch today 😂

Bishopsbuddy · 03/10/2025 16:36

Al schools here in County Antrim closed since 12 noon. Becoming very very windy now. Electricity flickering so getting dinner over in case it goes off.
it’s very sunny and mild despite the wind.

Sorry about that! I am idiot 🙈
It was only because I had just read that those were the worst affected areas.
Please amend that to I hope EVERYONE stays safe and sound.
My DCs love Flight Radar so will be glued to it!

In the south east and so far it just looks really gloomy and wet but not windy and no rain at the moment.

AnAudacityofinlaws · 03/10/2025 16:46

West Yorkshire here. It’s been pouring rain since mid morning but not windy atm.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/10/2025 15:34

Getting very blowy and heavy rain, North West

yup, it's pretty grim already

SleeplessInWherever · 03/10/2025 16:49

Amy has absolutely murdered my patio table umbrella, that I’d been meaning to take in and obviously hadn’t yet.

It’s now dead, and I’m not going outside to rescue it. So I’m just going to look at it through the window as a reminder of summer past.

SunriseSprout · 03/10/2025 16:51

South west. Drizzly and fairly windy. Been out to rescue the lemon tree as it was blown over into the already very rotten and wobbly bird table.

thebeautifulsky · 03/10/2025 16:53

Horizontal rain and high winds here in South, West Wales but we do live rurally and on the top of a hill! Patio furniture (heavy metal) already had to be anchored down as it has been blown from the patio into the lawn, leaving huge gouges. Neighbours' bins flying about.

Sugarahhoneyhoney · 03/10/2025 16:54

Hampshire. No wind beyond a breeze. Slight occasional drizzle. Very warm.

EasternStandard · 03/10/2025 17:05

Very rainy and windy here London, glad I’m home. It must be even worse where the storm is closer.

RubynRita · 03/10/2025 17:07

County Antrim, NI. Schools all finished at 12 o'clock. All parks and playgrounds closed. My friend got home from work at 2 oclock.

It lashed here all morning with a bit of respite for an hour. It's now blowing a gale but humid. I'm sitting watching the trees swaying.

Hope everyone stays safe.

CalzoneOnLegs · 03/10/2025 17:19

poole, Dorset just drizzly light winds and quite warm

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/10/2025 17:23

Just been out for half an hour in SE London. It's quite breezy but not enough to blow my umbrella inside out. Has rained all day.

Blodyneighbour · 03/10/2025 17:24

SE here, Not much going on but I don't expect too much. They always over exaggerate. Especially if you read it from the Daily Express etc...

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 03/10/2025 17:27

Grim, grey, wet and windy here on the Sefton coast. Fairly cold as well, have just put the heating on for the first time this Autumn. I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere this evening.

Middlemarch123 · 03/10/2025 17:27

North Norfolk coast, continuous heavy rain since the early hours of. Windy, but not too bad. Feels chilly. Hope we miss the worst of it, hope everyone in worse weather conditions stay safe.

ERthree · 03/10/2025 17:29

South west Scottish coast. Wild here last night but like a mill pond first thing this morning. Rain started here about 11 and the wind whipped up. As we are used to it everything outside is tied down but to be fair it is tied down in the summer. Everything that can be charged is charged. Soup, Stovies, fruit loaf and scones have been made, enough to keep us going for a few days. Enough wood and coal for the winter already stockpiled. A huge pile of books waiting to be read. Stay safe everyone.

JohnTheRevelator · 03/10/2025 17:30

I'm in South West London. It's been drizzling hard most of the day and is VERY windy.

HaughtyAndCold · 03/10/2025 17:32

East central Scotland - wind is picking up now

CrimsonStoat · 03/10/2025 17:33

North West England. Pretty bad. Raining. Very windy, roads flooded, standing water on dual carriageways, some branches down.

It's worsened in the last two hours.

PocketsAndSedition · 03/10/2025 17:34

I'm supposed to be flying into Glasgow just before midnight. I'm not sure if I want the flight to be cancelled or not at this point! 😬
