Storm Amy

So the season of named storms is upon us, with Amy being the first.
What are the conditions currently like where you are?

Here in the south east, the rain is gradually getting heavier but no hint of the predicted winds yet.

I hope all the MNs in Scotland and NI are safe and sound.

Yep it is lashing down with rain in Northumberland , planned grocery trip is not happening …. Did somebody say Just Eat

@CoastalCalm

so you don’t wanna go out to get food cos you the weather is so awful but you expect some poor Just Eat delivery person to come out in it to bring you a burger or whatever?? Can you not just make do with whatever food you have in the cupboard?? Beans on toast??

Oh god it was a joke , I’m sat here eating a tuna sarnie but I’m sure the delivery drivers are all happily making a killing tonight

I do love a good storm, as long as there's no major damage and everyone stays safe. We're near Wales so I don't think it's supposed to be all that bad here, but you never know. Good excuse to stay in and cosy up.

In Dublin City with a yellow warning. Large tree down already at the entrance to our estate. Man seriously injured in red warning area believed to be weather related. Nearly 200,000 without power.

lololove · 03/10/2025 17:41

East coast, it's gradually got heavier rain and wind here over the day.

cuppacat · 03/10/2025 17:42

South Coast, Hampshire and it is very windy and has been raining all day. A cruise ship was supposed to dock in Southampton tomorrow morning after a Med cruise but it has arrived a day early in port due to the predicted danger of the winds. That doesn't happen very often!

shellyleppard · 03/10/2025 17:44

Rain now stopped in the east midlands but very very windy. Waiting for the tree next door to come down....

Sorry about that! I am idiot 🙈
It was only because I had just read that those were the worst affected areas.
Please amend that to I hope EVERYONE stays safe and sound.
My DCs love Flight Radar so will be glued to it!

Co. Donegal in Ireland is under a red warning so it the area worst affected. And there is a man seriously injured in what is believed to be a weather related incident there.

Oh that's sad to hear, I hope those without power are able to get it back on soon.

Well after the last bad storm I think some were without it for about 3 weeks so that would be a miracle.

TokyoSushi · 03/10/2025 17:47

Dark & wet here in Cheshire, but not particularly windy.

I'm in South West London. It's been drizzling hard most of the day and is VERY windy.

It's so funny how localised it seems to be at the moment. We're in West London and it's been raining on and off, but barely a breath of wind so far. We have to go out tonight, so I hope the taxis don't all decide to pack it in

Sturmundcalm · 03/10/2025 17:51

west of Glasgow - not as bad as Eowyn but we had a tree come down in Floris so that's making me extra twitchy... some really strong gusts in the last hour but we're going to miss the worst of it i think as it's heading NW of us

15minutesaday · 03/10/2025 18:00

Very windy on the East Yorkshire coast this evening but not much rain at the moment. The rain was worse last night which caused localised flooding and the A63 to be closed right on morning rush hour. What fun that commute was Grin

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 03/10/2025 18:02

Very windy and wet in South Yorkshire. Quite warm though.

Pollqueen · 03/10/2025 18:03

East Mids. A lot of rain this afternoon which has stopped but the wind is building up now. Love a storm ♥️

jeremyclarksonsthirdnipple · 03/10/2025 18:16

The wind is picking up here in Leeds but the rain has lightened..its warmer outside though than inside! I am still resisting the heating going on!

Andnowshesapreschooler · 03/10/2025 18:33

Gloomy and moody in the east midlands hope everyone stops safe.
Can't find anything interesting on flight radar yet.

warmapplepies · 03/10/2025 18:36

We're in Cumbria and our little down is cut-off to the south as the river has burst its' banks (three hours before high tide!).

It's been hammering it down since 11am with no signs of stopping and the wind is picking up.

Our kitchen roof also has a leak. Excellent 🙄

Readyforslippers · 03/10/2025 18:58

The trees outside are looking pretty wavy now.

GrandTheftWalrus · 03/10/2025 18:59

Just outside Glasgow in a 8th floor flat. Im not looking forward to this.

ListenLinda · 03/10/2025 19:00

West Yorkshire. Wind is picking up, really blowing down the side of the house, banging the letterbox & scaring the dog 😱
rain is pretty hesvy too.

UniversityofWarwick · 03/10/2025 19:00

Scottish Isles here. Had to go for medicine at half there and was surprised how waterlogged the roads were. The drive back half an hour later was much drier. We now have rain and the wind’s up. Think I’ll feed the animals sooner rather than later as I’m already going to have to climb over stuff that’s been blown around the garden.

user1476613140 · 03/10/2025 19:09

Got in before it really kicked off at 6pm where we are. Returning from a swim class with youngest, there was a tree down on the road but someone had their saw out to cut the branch away to let the traffic flow again. Phew. Was glad to get home and feel safe. Its not called Storm Amy for nothing!

Slcalohaj · 03/10/2025 19:11

North highlands. Had a lot of rain but now the wind is really starting to pick up.
